KL Rahul and Shreyas Iyer will not be picked for the Asia Cup squad, which is expected to be announced this week.

The sources from BCCI have clearly reported that two batters are not recovered fully and are sidelined from the squad for the Asia Cup which is scheduled to play on August 30 to September 17.

As per Asia Cup 2023 schedule, India will play their first game of the tournament against Pakistan on September 2 at Pallekele International Cricket Stadium, Kandy.

Even though both players update their fitness progress on social media, the insiders suggest that it’s too soon to involve them in international action. But they will be considered for ODI World Cup 2023, later this year If they make a complete recovery.

They are expected to make their return three-ODI series against Australia in September. BCCI had updated that the two batters undergoing rehab from thigh and lower back injuries beginning their batting at the NCA nets and were ‘undergoing strength and fitness drills’.

“It’s not just whether they can bat, again. At this stage, it cannot be ascertained if they can field at full fitness in a 50 overs match,” a BCCI official said.

The absence of Players like KL Rahul and Shreyas Iyer hints that the players who are included in the squad of the three-ODI series against West Indies will likely feature in the six-team championship set to be held in Pakistan and Sri Lanka.

There will be changes in the bowling with Mohammad Siraj, Mohammed Shami as Jasprit Bumrah returns to the India squad.

Prasidh Krishna is also expected to return after a long injury break and will be considered for making it into Indian Squad but will not be expected to make it into the 15-member squad.

Ishan Kishan will be securing his place in Asia Cup and World Cup 2023 for the wicketkeeper slot.

The team management should decide the opening pair when the hitman makes it to the playing XI, which gives the indications point towards Ishan and Rohit on opening the innings, while Shubman Gill will be shifted to the middle-order.

The Indian squad and batting order will be determined during Asia Cup scheduled in Bengaluru from August 24 to 29. The World Cup Scheduled will be altered that involve two Pakistan matches. The highly expected India-Pakistan match is rescheduled a day earlier to October 14 in Ahmedabad.

Pakistan’s game against Sri Lanka is expected to be rescheduled by two days from October 12 to 10th.
