BCCI have named Indian women’s cricket team star batter Shafali Verma as India’s Captain of U19 Women’s World Cup. The inaugural edition of the U-19 Women’s T20 World Cup 2023 is set to begin in January 2023 in South Africa.
Shafali Named As India’s Captain of U19 Women’s World Cup
Earlier, the 2004 born was named in India’s squad for the 2020 ICC Women’s T20 World Cup in Australia. Ahead of the tournament, she was ranked as the number-one batter in women’s T20I cricket.
“The All-India Women’s Selection Committee has picked India U19 Women’s squad for the upcoming bilateral away T20 series against South Africa U19 and the ICC U19 Women’s World Cup ,” the BCCI said in a statement.
She was also named in India’s team for the 2022 Women’s Cricket World Cup in New Zealand. The maiden edition of the ICC U19 Women’s T20 World Cup will be played between 16 teams and will take place in South Africa from 14 to 29 January 2023.
Indian women’s team is placed in Group D alongside South Africa, UAE, and Scotland. The top three teams from each group will progress to the Super Six round, where teams will be pooled into two groups of six.
The top two teams from each group will then progress to the semi-finals of the tournament, which will be played on 27 January at JB Marks Oval in Potchefstroom. The final will take place at the same venue on 29 January 2023.
