“Please remove this rule”, Siraj request BCCI after Rohit Sharma’s criticism

Royal Challengers Bengaluru pacer Mohammed Siraj has become the second player after Rohit Sharma to criticise the BCCI’s Impact Player Rule in IPL.

The Impact Player rule which was not a part of international cricket yet, was introduced in the IPL in 2023 and continued to be used in this year’s Indian Premier League.

Though it gives an extra option for the team, Indian cricket team captain Rohit Sharma feels that the introduction of the rule might change the nature of the T20 format. Earlier, during a podcast with Adam Gilchrist, Rohit Sharma explained why the “Impact Player Rule” is not going to help the Indian cricket going ahead.

Joining him, his national teammate, Mohammed Siraj explains why BCCI should remove the Impact Player rule from the Indian Premier League.

“It’s important to be comfortable, if you think too much, it’ll lead to negativity and frustrations, so I always try to be as positive as possible, try to close all negative connotations around me. Please remove this impact sub thing (laughs), the wickets are already flat and there’s nothing for the bowlers in it, previously, it used to be slow at times, but the batters now come out swinging at absolutely everything,” he said.

“My game plan is to be consistent, if a good ball gets hit, so be it. It was a long time that teams made 250+, but it has become such a common feature now (thanks to impact sub and the flat pitches). It’s been a long time since I’ve played a day game, I last played a day game during the Test series against England, but we’re professionals and we have no excuses,” Siraj added.

Speaking on the game, RCB lost the game by a narrow 1 run and broke the hearts of millions. Apart from a defeat, RCB’s captain Faf du Plessis was handed a fine of INR 12 Lakh for breaching the IPL Code of Conduct. The clash also stirred up a new controversy regarding Virat Kohli’s dismissal which was later resolved after the experts came up with the explanation.

How does the Impact Player Rule Affect the Allrounders?

In the first match of the season which was played between CSK and RCB, Royal Challengers Bengaluru won the toss and opted to bat first.

As CSK were forced to bowl first, Chennai Super Kings included Mustafizur Rahman in their playing 11 for the first inning and replaced him with Shivam Dube for the second innings. This made Dube to play as a pure batter instead of an allrounder.

This kind of player switching options restricts their all-rounding performance and forces them to shine in any one department.
