Michael Vaughan lauds Joe Root

England batter Joe Root scores his first fifty in the India Test series. He smashed a half-century in 108 balls by playing patiently after England’s top order collapsed by India’s test debutant Akash Deep.

Despite England having lost five wickets for 112 runs before the lunch break, Joe Root was back to scoring ways and helped the side gain balance on day 01 of the fourth test.

The senior batter Joe Root was criticized for adopting the Bazball style in the test series against India. Recently Ian Chappell also advised Root not to use Bazball style and play normally with his style.

He amassed only 77 runs in the three tests on the ongoing series. The criticism came from the third test match in Rajkot when the batter reverse-scooped Jasprit Bumrah into the slips.

Root’s wicket in England’s first innings resulted in a collapse which led to fall of visitors in the previous test match.

But, Brendon McCullum the head coach of the England team, had refused to criticize Root and had said that Root had the potential to be a better batter than he already was.

Coming to the match, Akash Deep’s bowling spell on day 01 where England lost three wickets for 58 runs. He dismissed Zak Crawley, Ben Duckett, and Ollie Pope taking out the top order and dominating the visitors.

The conditions at Ranchi are cooler than previous venues, where Akash Deep used his seam movement effectively. Aakash Deep impressed the fans with his performance on the field.

He dismissed Zak Crawley with a no-ball, but Akash Deep regained his composure and dismissed Ben Duckett bagging his maiden Test wicket.

Then he dismissed Ollie Pope after reviewing an LBW appeal, which was supported by captain Rohit Sharma. Akash Deep’s dominance continued as he dismissed Zak Crawley who survived his wicket due to no-ball.

Joe Root continued to score runs to reach 80+ scores at the time of writing. He aims for a century in the match against India at Ranchi.

On the other hand, Mohammed Siraj dismissed two batters while Ravindra Jadeja and Ravichandran Ashwin bagged one wicket each at JSCA International Stadium Complex.
