IND vs AUS 2023: Jasprit Bumrah Set To Miss Last 2 Tests Matches

Indian spearhead Jasprit Bumrah is set to miss the last 2 Test matches of the Border Gavaskar Trophy 2023 scheduled to play in March.

Jasprit Bumrah Set To Miss Last 2 Tests

Before the start of the Border Gavaskar trophy 2023, Rohit Sharma confirms that Bumrah will not be available for the first two tests while he expects Bumrah to be back for the last two test series.

Earlier Bumrah was named in India’s ODI squad for the Sri Lanka series but was ruled out of the tournament at the last moment. Bumrah sustained a lower back stress fracture after the England tour and missed the Asia Cup last year.

Notably, Bumrah has been out of cricketing action since September 2022 and was also ruled out of the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup due to a back injury.

In August 2022, Bumrah was diagnosed with a stress reaction in his back and was ruled out of India’s Asia Cup campaign later that month.

However, in September, Bumrah was declared fit and was picked in India’s T20 World Cup squad. The same squad also featured in India’s build-up to the tournament with home games against Australia and South Africa.

Bumrah featured in two of the three T20s against Australia but was pulled out on the eve of the South Africa series, India’s last before the World Cup after he complained of back pain

Bumrah’s last appearance for India was against Australia in the T20I series at home before getting sidelined with a stress reaction in his back.

While Bumrah was expected to play in the Australia test series, BCCI decides not to rush him as the ongoing year was packed with ICC events.

“Bumrah has been undergoing full-tilt bowling sessions at the NCA for the past few days and has pulled up well. There has been no stiffness the following day, which is the most encouraging part for him”, the Telegraph quoted sources as saying.

The report further stated that the 29-year-old has been bowling with the white ball at the NCA, which is a pretty good indication that he isn’t being considered for the last two Tests of the home series against Australia.

The report added that the decision on whether the fast bowler would feature in the one-day series against Australia, which will be played after the Tests, will be taken next week.

India vs Australia ODI series will begin on March 17 at Wankhede Stadium, Mumbai while the 2nd and 3rd ODI match is scheduled to play n March 19 and March 22.
