Bumrah Ruled Out Of ODI Series Against Sri Lanka: Indian pace bowler Jasprit Bumrah has been ruled out of the upcoming ODI series against Sri Lanka beginning on January 10, 2023 at Barsapara Cricket Stadium, Guwahati.

During the Sri Lanka tour of India 2023, both teams are scheduled to play 3 T20Is and 3 ODIs between January 3 to January 15. Hardik Pandya led the Indian T20I side have won the series by 2-1 while Rohit Sharma will lead the Indian ODI squad.

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) sources have said a call has been taken not to rush him into action so soon. The BCCI had earlier said that Jasprit Bumrah has been added to the ODI on the recommendation of the all-India selection committee.

“The All-India Senior Selection Committee has included pacer Jasprit Bumrah in India’s ODI squad for the upcoming Mastercard 3-match ODI series against Sri Lanka,” the BCCI had said in a January 3 media release.

Notably, Bumrah has been out of cricketing action since September 2022 and was also ruled out of the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup due to a back injury.

In August 2022, Bumrah was diagnosed with a stress reaction in his back and was ruled out of India’s Asia Cup campaign later that month.

However, in September, Bumrah was declared fit and was picked in India’s T20 World Cup squad. The same squad also featured in India’s build-up to the tournament with home games against Australia and South Africa.

Bumrah featured in two of the three T20s against Australia but was pulled out on the eve of the South Africa series, India’s last before the World Cup after he complained of back pain

Bumrah’s last appearance for India was against Australia in the T20I series at home before getting sidelined with a stress reaction in his back. He had to miss the T20 World Cup in Australia as a result and underwent rehabilitation before being declared fit by the NCA.

“The pacer has undergone rehabilitation and has been declared fit by the National Cricket Academy (NCA). He will be joining the Team India ODI squad soon,” the BCCI had further said.
