Australia won the finals of the World Cup 2023 and claimed the sixth World Cup title on November 19, 2023, at Narendra Modi Stadium. They won against the hosts on a low-score encounter where they chased the target of 240 runs to win by 6 wickets.

In the match, Travis Head had a remarkable innings as he scored 137 runs while Marnus Labuschagne scored 58* runs securing a memorable victory in the tournament.   During the podcast, the England cricketer Michael said the Umpire should have been named the “Star of the Match” in the tournament’s final game.

Choosing to bowl first, Australia dismissed the skipper Rohit Sharma for 47 runs. With the dismissal of Kohli and KL Rahul, India could not withstand the terrific bowling attack of Australia as they scored 240 runs in 50 overs losing all 10 wickets.

With the target of 241 runs, Australia opened their innings where they struggled as they lost three wickets for 47 runs on the seventh over. But with the efforts of Travis Head and Marnus, Australia won the match by the end of the 43rd over.

Speaking in a podcast called ‘Club Prairie Fire’. Vaughan said Travis Head was a key candidate for the Player of the Match. He also added that skipper Pat Cummins impressed with his captaincy.

He was displeased on the decision of the umpire to give not out for Marnus where Jasprit Bumrah claimed lbw. India went for DRS, but it was an umpire call on the wicket.

While concluding, Vaughan praised Kettleborough and said he had a great game at Narendra Modi Stadium.

“I think you are right. Travis Head was obviously a key candidate. I think you are right, Pat Cummins, for me, his captaincy was remarkable, that mid-play when he changed the bowler every over to not let KL Rahul and Virat Kohli settle, and then he came on and got Virat Kohli out. My star has to be Richard Kettleborough, the umpire, he has to be. He has a great game. If his finger would have gone up…,” Vaughan concluded.

After the World Cup campaign, India and Australia are scheduled to play 5 five-match T20I series where India won the first match with 2 wickets in hand.

They will be facing each other on the 2nd T20I match of the Australia tour of India 2023 on November 26 at Greenfield Stadium.
