During the Australia tour of India 2023, both teams are scheduled to play 4 Tests and 3 ODI. The 4 Test match will play a crucial role in India’s qualification for the grand WTC 2021-23 final.

Though India won the first 2 Tests they were still in need of another win to seal their spot in the WTC final match. With a lot of speculation, the 3rd Test match started on March 1 at Holkar Cricket Stadium, Indore.

Winning the toss India decides to bat first and struggled to make a partnership from the beginning. Gill and Kohli are the only players to cross the 20 runs mark in the first inning. The poor batting performance from the batters leads India to windup their first inning for just 109 runs.

Kaneria said that the performance by the Indian batters was extremely disappointing and pointed out that Rishabh Pant would have dealt with the two spinners more effectively.

“If you would ask Rishabh Pant how to bat against these spinners, he would tell you to use your feet, get to the pitch of the ball, and smash the ball a long way. Had he been there, he wouldn’t have spared Lyon and Kuhnemann. He would have forced them to change their lengths by attacking them. Indian batters have been disappointing,” Kaneria said on his YouTube channel.

While Australia scored 197 runs in the 1st inning India managed to score only 163 runs in the 2nd inning. Australia with a wicket loss scored 78 runs and won the 3rd Test match.

“India could have batted properly and scored 250-300 in their first innings. But their unnecessary stroke play has now put Australia in the ascendancy, and I feel there’s an 80 percent chance that Australia will win this game now,” he concluded.

While India leads the 4-match Test series, India needs to win the last Test match against Australia to seal the series victory as well as to secure the WTC 2021-23 Final.

The last Test match of the Border Gavaskar Trophy 2023 will be played on March 9 in Narendra Modi Stadium, Ahmedabad.
