    IPL postponed

The most awaited moment for Dhoni’s fan scattered after BCCI announcement of IPL postpone. BCCI postponed IPL 2020 to mid of April in concern to avoid the spread of corona virus. Due to the increase in corona virus infection Indian government announced a 21 day lock down thus the execution of postponed IPL seems doubtful.

BCCI comes up with an new idea to host the tournament in order to prevent the huge money loss. This IPL plays a crucial role in Dhoni’s future carrier in Indian team.

    Dhoni’s absence

Since India’s semi-final exit from the ICC Cricket World Cup 2019 against New Zealand in August last year, Dhoni made himself unavailable for selection. During his break from cricket, the 38-year-old also served for the Indian Army too.

In his absence Pant and KL Rahul’s name were enrolled and gave a chance to prove them self. Where KL Rahul use this golden opportunity and show his best as compared with Pant. Recently in an interview Indian former player Virender Sehwag advice Indian team to go along with their current squad where Indian domestic legend Wasim Jaffer defends Dhoni and points the importance for his presence.

Australian bowler Brad Hogg and Indian former player Sunil Gavaskar too suggest MS Dhoni to retire from International cricket.

Harsha Bhogle’s view on Dhoni’s return

In a recent interaction with Cricbuzz, renowned sports presenter Harsha Bhogle has opined that he doesn’t see Dhoni taking part in the forthcoming ICC T20 World Cup 2020.

Bhogle didn’t question the 38-year old player’s skill to press a case in the national team but laid emphasis on how his gut makes him feel that Dhoni wouldn’t be looking at the showpiece event in Australia later this year.

“It’s absolutely impossible to know what Dhoni is thinking, don’t think even Dhoni’s shadows know what he is thinking. That’s how close he keeps his cards to his chest.

“But this is my gut feel. I had said it when he gave up the captaincy, or when he walked away from Test cricket… just like that Dhoni won’t grandstand his exit. One day you will realise that Dhoni is gone. That he has quietly slipped away and doing his own thing and that is why my gut feel is that his India ambitions might be over. I don’t think Dhoni would be looking to September-October, October-November for the ICC T20 World Cup. Maybe, if he had a great IPL, he might. But my gut feel is that it was beyond him,” Bhogle was quoted as saying.

The deadly corona virus has pushed the whole world to halt and to postpone the scheduled events. Many countries imposed a total lock down and even restricts foreigners to enter inside their country.

    Dhoni’s possible return

Former Indian skipper MS Dhoni eventually seen in action in the 2019 world cup semi finals against New Zealand where India lost the match. Dhoni himself made unavailable for the further International matches after that.

Dhoni is expected to make his way back to the competitive games through the IPL 2020. But due to coronavirus pandemic the IPL has been postponed to mid of April. BCCI also released a new update to host the IPL at the end of April or at the beginning of May.

BCCI assured that Dhoni’s performance in IPL would have a chance to bring him back to the squad. But with uncertainty over the tournament this year, Dhoni’s plans might have taken a big hit.

    Dhoni’s Childhood coach statement

While it looks his T20 World Cup hopes solely depends upon the IPL, his childhood coach Keshav Ranjan Banerjee still believes that the cricketer will find a place in the team.

“In the current scenario, IPL looks unlikely and we will have to wait for BCCI’s call. His (Dhoni’s) position will become tough obviously. But my sixth sense says he will get a chance in the T20 World Cup, which will be his last,” Banerjee told PTI.

    MS Dhoni decides to retire

Due to the corona pandemic Indian government announced a 21 day lock down, which coincide with the “postponed IPL” date. Thus BCCI decide to host it at the end of April or at the beginning of May.

Previously Indian former players Sunil Gavaskar and Virender Sehwag suggest dhoni to retire. Australian bowler Brad Hogg too believe in same.

The 13th season of the Indian Premier League would have played a vital role in deciding if Dhoni would board the flight to Australia later this year or not. If the cash-rich league gets abandoned, it will become nearly improbable for Dhoni to play the T20 World Cup.

Going by reports in Sportskeeda, Dhoni has informed his near and dear ones regarding his international retirement. While he is yet to inform the BCCI (Board of Control for Cricket in India) regarding his decision, a source in privy to the legendary cricketer revealed that he was waiting for IPL 2020 before taking a call.

“Officially, he [MS Dhoni] is yet to have a word with the BCCI officials, but he has revealed his mind to his close friends. When time comes, he will reveal it all. Otherwise [without IPL 2020], he would have announced his retirement a long time ago,” the source was quoted as saying by Sportskeeda.

“So it has been tough but a welcome rest for players” : Ravi Shastri Indian Head Coach

Ravi Shastri mention COVID-19 pandemic is a "welcome rest" for India cricketers

The scheduled sports event has been called off owing to the COVID-19 pandemic. This is a “welcome rest” for India cricketers, feels head coach Ravi Shastri, who has spent barely 10-11 days at home since leaving for the World Cup last May. As with other sports across the world, cricket has also been affected with all international and domestic fixtures being called off due to the outbreak of the novel coronavirus.

    Un-expected rest

“(This rest) cannot be a bad thing because towards the end of the New Zealand tour, you could see some cracks coming up when it came to mental fatigue, physical fitness and injuries,” Shastri said.

He was speaking to former England captains Michael Atherton and Nasser Hussain and Rob Key on a Sky Sports podcast.

According to Shastri, the players may use the time to re-energise themselves, especially after a gruelling New Zealand tour where India played five T20Is, three ODIs and two Tests.

“The amount of cricket we have played over the last ten months, that was beginning to take its toll. Guys like me, and some other guys from the support staff, we left India on May 23 for the World Cup in England. Since then we have been at home for 10 or 11 days.

“There are certain players who played all three formats, so you can imagine the toll it has taken on them, especially being on the field, adjusting from T20s to Test match cricket and all the travel that goes with that because we travelled quite a lot,” Shastri said.

After the World Cup, the Indian team travelled to the West Indies, then played a home series against South Africa that was followed by a full tour of New Zealand.

“So it has been tough but a welcome rest for players,” the coach said.

21 day lock down by Indian government

In-order to control the spread Indian government have issued a 21 day lock down. According to Shastri, his players knew something like this was imminent when the series against South Africa was called off, right after the New Zealand tour.

“It came as a shock but to be honest, having been on the road during the South Africa series, we guys anticipated it,” he said. “We knew something was on the cards as the disease had just started spreading. When the second ODI was called off, we knew something was gonna happen and a lockdown was imminent.”

“I think the players knew it was coming, they sensed it in New Zealand. There were apprehensions towards the end of that tour, when flights were coming through Singapore, out of Singapore.”

“By the time we landed (in India), I thought we got out at just the right time. There were only two cases in New Zealand at that time, that has rocketed now to 300.

“The day we landed, that was the first day they were screening and testing people at the airport. So (we came back) just in the nick of time.”

    Players should create awareness

He also mentioned that players too have some responsibilities to create the awareness regarding corona virus among the peoples. A step ahead Former Indian cricketer Sachin Tendulkar made a donation of 50 lacks INR to the corona virus relief fund.

“As players, you have a lot of responsibility. That’s why the message is very clear that cricket should be last on everyone’s mind now,” he said.

“I think the most important thing is safety and not ensuring just your safety but ensuring safety of others as well, by creating a kind of awareness that tells people there is something serious around.

“Virat has done it, a lot of other players have done it by posting certain messages on social media. They knew that it’s something very serious and there could be a hold up in cricket for some time.”

Chennai Super Kings skipper also trained at CSK training camp before the sessions were suspended amid coronavirus pandemic. Banerjee also confirmed that the ageing cricketing hero is training at his home to keep himself in shape.

“I spoke to him last after he returned from Chennai and I’m in constant touch with his parents. He’s doing his fitness training and is fully fit. Now let’s wait for the BCCI’s decision. There’s no tournament. ICC tournaments are off till June. So we will have to wait and see.”

“He is fully fit and trained in Chennai for a week or so. Now everything is closed in Ranchi, earlier he would train at the JSCA. But now he’s confined at home and making use of the facilities at home. He has a gym, a badminton court, and a running corridor.” he said.

MS Dhoni’s experience in an asset

Earlier, likes of Sunil Gavaskar and Virender Sehwag raised questions on Dhoni’s prolonged absence. However, Banerjee thinks that the experience of the cricketer will help him adjusting to the game again.

“True that he has not played a tournament (since July 2019) but for someone with 538 International matches, I don’t think it would take much time to adjust. It would have been a different scenario for a beginner. But it’s not the case with Dhoni he has got a wealth of experience. I think he will get a last chance,”.

“I’m sure BCCI (president, selectors, captain) are aware of the scenario. They will make the announcement when it’s the right time,” Banerjee further added.

On this day(March 27) in 2016 Current Indian skipper Virat Kohli executes his master class performance and leads India to a glorious win against Australia. During the 31st match of the ICC World Twenty20 2016 between India and Australia in Mohali, the then India vice-captain Virat Kohli’s 15th T20I half-century had propelled India to a 6-wicket victory.

    Virat Kohli’s Glorious strike

Coming in to bat at No. 3 in the fourth over of a 161-run chase, Kohli ended up scoring 82* (51) with the help of nine fours and two sixes to win the match for India in the last over.

Requiring 59 runs in the last five overs with Kohli and captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni on strike, India made a daunting task look simple as Kohli scored 45* (19) from this point in time to leave the Australian bowlers clueless.
