Australia Pacer Mitchell Starc Looking Forward to Pink Ball Test Against India

Mitchell Starc in Pink ball test match

Australia pacer Mitchell Starc cannot wait to play against India in the pink ball Test later this year when Virat Kohli’s men are scheduled to tour the country for a four-match series.

After Sourav Ganguly took over as the president of the Board of Control for Cricket in India he made an impact on Indian cricket by organising the first ever day/night Test on Indian soil at Kolkata’s Eden Gardens. The match has been played against Bangladesh with the first ever pink ball in test cricket hosted in India.

India last toured Australia in 2018-19 and had refused their offer of playing a day-night Test then. However, BCCI president Sourav Ganguly has said that the cricket boards of the two teams have agreed to play under the lights and a formal announcement will be made soon.

“I think absolutely a pink ball Test in this series against India is a great thing,” Starc said during an online press conference on Tuesday. “The fans love it, it creates a different aspect of the contest. I think bat and ball are a lot closer together. India have obviously played a pink ball Test at home so they’re not completely foreign to it.”

“I guess in terms of the advantage if you like, we do have a good record at home with the pink ball. It’s no different to us going to India and they’ve got the advantage there,” he added.

With the world fighting coronavirus pandemic, cricket is also pondering measures to ensure safety of their players and stakeholders. One of the proposals is to temporarily ban the application of saliva to shine the ball as has been the practice.

    Starc insist to provide alternatives

However, Starc said the administrators have to provide an alternative.

“I understand that completely and hear what they’re saying in terms of a foreign substance, but whether that can be controlled by the umpires in terms of they have a portion of the wax and you can only use a small amount, I don’t know, but there needs to be a maintaining of the even contest,” Starc said.

“I understand what they’re saying with foreign substances and that it’s black and white in terms of that, but it’s an unusual time for the world and if they’re going to remove saliva shining for a portion of time they need to think of something else for that portion of time as well.”

The 30-year-old pained a grim picture in the scenario that bowlers aren’t given permission to use alternative methods to purchase swing.

“They’ve mentioned that it’s only going to be there for a period of time and then once the world gets back to a relatively normal situation then saliva can come back into shining the ball. But if it’s going to be a window of time there, maybe then instruct people to leave more grass on the wickets to have that contest or if they’re going to take away a portion of maintaining the ball, there needs to be that even contest between bat and ball, otherwise people are going to stop watching, and kids aren’t going to want to be bowlers,” he said.

Shoaib Akhtar Reveals “What Record Sachin Would Created” If he Plays in Modern Cricket Era

Shoaib Akhtar predicts that Sachin Tendulkar would scored more than 1.30 lakh runs if he played in modern cricket era. Indian cricket legendary batsman Sachin Tendulkar is considered as god of cricket for various reasons. The records created by Sachin Tendulkar still stands as a dream for many young cricketers. The legend steps down from cricket after completing his 200 ODI matches in 2013.

Sachin Tendulkar is also a part of the team which won the 2011 cricket World Cup under MS Dhoni’s captaincy. Making it clear that it is not right to compare Sachin Tendulkar and Virat Kohli, former Pakistan pacer Shoaib Akhtar felt it is unfair because the former played in the toughest era of cricket, unlike 31-year-old current India skipper.

Akhtar also said that had Tendulkar played in this era he would have scored 1.30 lakh runs.

“Tendulkar batted in the toughest era of cricket. If he had to get the chance now, he may hit more than 1.30 lakh runs. So it”s not good to make a comparison between Sachin and Kohli,” Akhtar said during a live video session on Helo app.

Akhtar also revealed he wanted Tendulkar to complete a century during their famous 2003 World Cup clash against India. Tendulkar got out on 98 with Akhtar accounting for his scalp. Riding on Tendulkar”s fine innings, India won the match by six wickets in Centurion.

Earlier, Gautam Gambhir said that Tendulkar is greater than Kohli because of his longevity and records.

Former Pakistan speedster Shoaib Akhtar spoke about the match-fixing era in the squad and how he would not have listened to Wasim Akram if he had approach him regarding the same. Earlier Shoaib Akhtar has named Indian legend Sachin Tendulkar as one of the “greatest batsman of all time”.

Kohli might not have played against Shoaib Akhtar but the former Pakistani pacer is all praise for the Indian captain.

Akhtar, who is renowned for being the only pacer who breached the 100 mph barrier in cricket, feels that he and Kohli would have been best friends had they met on a cricket pitch.

Akhtar appeared on a video podcast with Sanjay Manjrekar on ESPNCricinfo and shared his views on the 31-year-old Royal Challengers Bangalore skipper.

“Virat Kohli and I would have been the best of friends. We both are Punjabi, we both have quite a similar nature. He seems like he has a lot of heart, and even though, he’s a lot junior to me, I really respect him,Akhtar said.

However, Akhtar added that the friendship would not be on the cricket field but only off it.

“We would have been the best of friends. But on the field, we would have been the best of enemies,” he said.

Akhtar, who had an illustrious career for Pakistan with 178 Test wickets in 46 matches, is still considered one of the most lethal pacers ever.

Harbhajan Singh Spokes Out on his T20 Return

The Indian spinner Harbhajan Singh who last played for India in 2016 propose his interest to play T20 cricket for India. The 39 year old believes that he is fit and still ready to play for the country.

The “Turbanator” was also a part of team when India won the 2007 T20 World Cup and 2011 ODI World Cup. He has not been in the Indian team since 2016 but continue to executes his skills in IPL.

Harbhajan Singh hasn’t lose hope and spells out his eagerness to play in blue jersey.

“I am ready. If I can bowl well in IPL, which is a very difficult tournament for bowlers because the grounds are smaller, and all the top players in world cricket play in the IPL,” ESPNCricinfo quoted Harbhajan as saying.

In his 12 years IPL carrier Harbhajan lifted the trophy for three times with Mumbai Indians and one time with Chennai Super Kings.

Harbhajan Singh made his Indian Premier League (IPL) debut against Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) while playing for Mumbai Indians (MI) in the inaugural season. In the 160 matches he has played so far, Singh has scalped 150 wickets, conceding 7.05 runs per over. His best bowling figures are 5 for 18.

Check out : Harbhajan Singh’s stats in 12 years IPL in two different teams.

In the batting department, he has scored a total of 829 runs at a strike rate of 137.22, and his highest individual score is 64. Harbhajan Singh was an integral part of Mumbai Indians until IPL 2017. However, in the IPL 2018 auction, Chennai Super Kings (CSK) bagged him at a base price of Rs 2 crore.

However, the bowler said that the selectors did not have a look at him because they think he is too old.

“They will not look at me because they feel I am too old,” he said. “Also I don’t play any domestic cricket. [In the] Last four-five years they did not look at me even though I was doing well in the IPL, taking wickets and I had all my records to back my case.

“It is very challenging to bowl against them and if you can do well against them in IPL, you can do well in international cricket. I have bowled predominantly in the powerplay and middle overs and got wickets,” he added.

He believes that the IPL is the most difficult competition when it comes to T20 cricket and said that after performing in this tournament, he can make a comeback into the Indian side.

“In international cricket, not all teams have quality players like IPL teams, where every team has a top-six which is good. Yes, Australia, England, India have all got very good batting line-ups,” Harbhajan said.

“But if I can get Johnny Bairstow and David Warner in IPL, don’t you think I can get them in international cricket? But it is not in my hands. No one comes and talks to you in this present Indian set-up,” he added.

When it comes to the Indian side, Harbhajan still continues to be India’s highest wicket-taker in Test cricket. He has taken 417 wickets in 103 Tests and was also the first Indian bowler to claim a Test hat-trick – a feat he achieved against Australia in 2001.

In ODIs, the spinner has taken 269 wickets in 236 matches, and in T20Is, he has 25 wickets to his name in 28 appearances.

“I’d be really surprised if we can’t get the Indian tour away. But I wouldn’t, hand on heart suggest we’ll have full crowds from the start. We’ll just have to see how that goes,” Roberts said.

Veteran wicket-keeper batsman Parthiv Patel has expressed faith in flamboyant yet out-of-favour wicket-keeper batsman Rishabh Pant’s abilities and hinted that playing domestic cricket might aid the latter.

“Rishabh Pant definitely has it in him, there’s no doubt about that. If I put myself into his shoes when I was 17-18, I didn’t have a good series, and going back to domestic cricket for a couple of years helped me a lot,” Patel was quoted as saying by FanCode.

Pant, 22, has been subjected to severe criticism in the recent past. Him repeatedly being given opportunities at the highest level with below par returns hadn’t gone down well with fans. Patel further revealed a constant conversation with Pant regarding his potential.

Sometimes, you have to go back to domestic cricket and just get that form back,” Patel said.

Being asked to pick one between Rahul and Pant for the forthcoming ICC T20 World Cup 2020 in Australia, Patel didn’t shy away from naming the former but considered him to be a “short-term thing”.

“At this point of time, KL Rahul. I feel Rahul is your short-term thing in a way if you’re thinking of the [ICC T20] World Cup. I think he’ll do the job for you during the World Cup, there’s no doubt about it,” Patel added.

The cash-rich Indian Premier League was set to witness former India skipper MS Dhoni, who has not played international cricket since the 2019 Cricket World Cup. But with the T20 tournament postponed indefinitely due to the coronavirus lockdown, former India cricketer Ajay Ratra feels it will be difficult for Dhoni to make a comeback.

Ratra, on the other hand, did not write his comeback completely as he felt with Dhoni you never know.

“You see, Dhoni is a very unpredictable player but yes there has been a long time since he played competitive cricket. IPL 2020 seemed quite decisive for his international career. The team management would have closely monitored his performance and also how other wicketkeepers would’ve done during the IPL. Unfortunately, IPL getting postponed indefinitely makes it (Dhoni’s comeback) difficult but you never know with Dhoni,” Ratra told Mykhel.

With the BCCI waiting for the green signal from the government, it is highly unlikely the T20 tournament will take place in the next two months.

In March, Dhoni reached Chennai and starts his practice session with his team mates where MSD outshined with massive shots. But due to the increase in corona virus positive cases training camps has been closed by the franchises and Dhoni left Chennai with warm sent off.

Regards Indian former skipper MS Dhoni’s return many revealed their thoughts and plot the possibilities. Where Indian former player Sunil Gavaskar suggest Dhoni should retire silently and Sehwag advice team India to play with their current wicket keeper batsman.

Australian bowler Brad Hogg too predict the possibilities of MS Dhoni’s return to International squad if IPL 2020 cancelled.

    Shoaib Akhtar’s view on MSD

Former Pakistan pacer Shoaib Akhtar says he cannot fathom why Mahendra Singh Dhoni has “dragged it for so long” as the right time for the maverick ex-India skipper to call it quits was after last year’s ODI World Cup.

“This guy has served to the best of his ability. He should leave cricket with dignity. I don’t know why he dragged it for so long. He should have retired after the World Cup,” Akhtar told PTI from Islamabad.

“If I would have been in his place, I would have hung up my boots. I could have played shorter formats for three-four years but I left (after the 2011 WC) as I wasn’t into the game 100 per cent. So why drag?” he asked.
