The corona virus has brought all sports activities to a halt and players are practising social distancing and self-isolation during the pandemic. BCCI postponed the scheduled Indian Premier League to the end of April. BCCI would face a huge lose if the upcoming IPL went down.

Dhoni’s future depends on IPL 2020

The former Indian skipper MS Dhoni was last seen in action against New Zealand in the ICC World Cup semifinal, a game India lost. He made himself unavailable for India’s international assignments post the WC exit and was eventually dropped from the BCCI’s list of centrally contracted players in January.

As pointed out by BCCI president Sourav Ganguly and India head coach Ravi Shastri, “Dhoni’s international future depends on his performances in IPL 2020 which comes in to consider him in T20 World Cup planned later this year in Australia”.

Irfan Pathan’s suggestion

Former cricketer Irfan Pathan has expresses his thoughts on MS Dhoni’s possible Team India future. He also claimed that the former Team India skipper should definitely play for the Men In Blue again but only after a total evaluation of the players who have been performing well during Dhoni’s absence.

“He obviously needs to play. If he does, he should for India. He is the most amazing cricketer we have. He has been fantastic for the country. He has given so much to the world of cricket,” Irfan told the New Indian Express.

“But if he is just drafted in, will it be fair for those who have been playing regularly is an important question. KL Rahul and Rishabh Pant have been playing consistently for a year. So, this question needs to be answered by the board,” he added.

Dhoni’s future carrier gets doubtful as the IPL is in verge of getting cancelled. Previously Indian former player Sunil Gavaskar insist Dhoni to retire. Where Australian bowler Brad Hogg too express his thoughts on Dhoni’s return.

Raising his concerns over the current COVID-19 pandemic across the globe, the former all-rounder said: “It is very important that all governments take proper measures. Sporting activities should obviously be postponed. Nothing is bigger than life. Like the postponement of IPL, everyone should consider the situation every month.”

“Be it ICC or any national board, all organizations need to see the situation in Australia (for the T20 World Cup) every three, four weeks and then make a decision. If something has to be deferred or canceled, so be it.”

“You cannot do anything because you need to save lives, which should be the most important thing on everybody’s mind at the moment,” he added.
