Ruturaj Gaikwad Becomes the First Cricketer to Smash Seven 6s In An Over

Maharashtra batter Ruturaj Gaikwad becomes the first cricketer to smash seven 6s in an over. Gaikwad achieved this rare feat in the ongoing Vijay Hazare Trophy 2022.

First Cricketer to Smash Seven 6s In An Over

Maharashtra and Uttar Pradesh were scheduled to play the 2nd quarter-final of the tournament on November 27 in Narendra Modi Stadium B Ground, Ahmedabad – which(the stadium) eventually won the Guinness world record for largest attendance in a T20 match.

Winning the toss Uttar Pradesh opted to bowl first where Maharashtra’s opening batters Ruturaj Gaikwad and Rahul Tripathi make their way to open the innings. Though Maharashtra struggled to build a partnership, it is their captain who took the responsibility in the shoulder and smashed an unbeaten 220 runs in just 159 deliveries.

Maharashtra’s captain knock leads them to register 330 runs for 5 wickets at the end of the 50 overs. Apart from registering his double century, Gaikwad achieved another rare feat by smashing 7 sixes in an over.

Though hitting 6 sixes in an over seems quite achievable, Gaikwad’s new achievement seems quite impossible to repeat. The whole incident takes place in the 49th over of the first inning.

Shiva Singh bowled the 49th over who already gave 45 runs in his first 8 overs without bagging a single wicket and gave 43 runs off the 9th over alone. Gaikwad started to smash the first ball toward a six and continued to do so.

Being under pressure, Shiva made an error by bowling a no-ball off the 5th delivery which eventually fly high above the ropes. At the end of the over, Ruturaj Gaikwad struck seven 6s including a no-ball six.

Notably, Ruturaj Gaikwad retained his place in CSK ahead of the IPL 2023 Auction where CSK retained him and released Narayan Jagadeesan has made a historic 277-run knock in the ongoing Vijay Hazare Trophy 2022.

As far as the match is concerned, Uttar Pradesh were in need of 331 runs at the end of the 50 overs to earn their semi-final spot scheduled to play on November 30 in Narendra Modi Stadium A Ground and Narendra Modi Stadium B Ground Ahmedabad.

It is worth mentioning that in 2017, Teenage Sri Lankan cricketer Navindu Pahasara becomes the first-ever batsman in any form of cricket to hit seven sixes in one over.
