As Jasprit Bumrah has been sidelined from actions for almost 10 months, Rohit Sharma answers one of the most anticipated questions, “Will Bumrah play in Ireland T20I series“.
Will Bumrah play in Ireland T20I Series?
Jasprit Bumrah had been sidelined from action since September 2022. The Indian star made his last appearance for India against Australia during the third T20I match of a three-match series on Sep 25, 2022.
Bumrah suffered from a back injury during the ODI series in England on July 2022 and had been out of action for two months, where he missed Asia Cup 2022.
He reappeared during England’s ODI series and played in the second and third games, but was again ruled out due to his injury. He missed the T20 World Cup during his treatment where India suffered an defeat by 10 wickets against England.
Bumrah was included in the ODI squad on the Sri Lanka tour, but before the match, he was sidelined and went back to treatment. He had undergone surgery and was unavailable for the IPL 2023 and WTC 2023 finals. He is expected to make a comeback for the next month’s T20I series against Ireland.
There were reports that confirmed that Bumrah will be part of India’s squad for the Ireland tour, which was featured for the second string of players. But Rohit Sharma had given an update about Bumrah’s return which says, there is no guarantee that he will make it up for Ireland tour as he will be lacking practice to play before ODI World Cup 2023 which starts on October 5.
“The amount of experience he (Bumrah) brings is very important. Right now, he’s coming from a serious injury, and I’ve no idea if he’ll travel to Ireland because the team hasn’t been announced yet.”
“If he gets to play, then it’s good, and we hope he plays before the World Cup. When a player returns from a serious injury, match fitness, and match feeling are some key components that are missing,” said Rohit at the press conference ahead of the 1st ODI.
The Update was with reference to the management’s constant touch with NCA where Bumrah’s rehab is monitored. “We’ll see what has been planned, and everything depends on his recovery. We are in constant touch with the NCA, and things look positive at the moment,” he added.
Bumrah made his ODI debut for India on January 23, 2016, against Australia at Sydney under MS Dhoni’s leadership and has played in a total of 72 matches so far in which he dismissed about 121 batters.
Bumrah’s presence will be a major push for the Indian cricket team, considering his remarkable skills in bowling.
He returns at crucial timing, with the ODI World Cup ahead on a shot span and his participation in the series against Ireland will be a key in India’s preparation and chances for his well-defined performance in the big tournament. India is set to begin their World Cup campaign against Australia on October 8 in Chennai.
