The left-arm pacer Spencer Johnson will be joining the side for the second T20I match on the West Indies tour of Australia 2024.

Spencer Johnson will be playing his first home-ground International match in Sunday’s T20 game against West Indies. Spencer Johnson was the only change made after the Australia T20 squad announcement. He has featured in three international matches for Australia including one ODI and two T20Is.

Australia won the first T20I match of the tour by 11 runs and leads the series 1-0. David Warner was named the Player of the Match.

While asked about his inclusion Johnson said, “It’s exciting. To get another opportunity is obviously something where I want to be. When I played last year in September, I think I’m a different player now, I have a bit more success in the Big Bash so I’m definitely ready to go.”

Johnson was impressive during the BBL 2023-24 season with one of his career-best bowling returns of 4/26. He was bought by Gujarat Titans for 1.78 million dollars during IPL 2024 auction.

“I’m taking it in my stride –  when you sit back and think about it, it’s pretty ridiculous,” he said. “But I’m here now and I just keep going.”

“It’s obviously going to be a proud moment for my family, to have them in the crowd, and friends there as well,” he said. “To play for Australia is something that you dream about in the backyard so to do it is going to be quite cool.”

Australia has only 5 T20 matches before the upcoming Men’s T20 World Cup 2024 starting in June in the West Indies.

“It would be nice to have a couple of performances here for Australia now but the World Cup is still a long way away,” he said. “If I have a good IPL there’s every chance I might be in that World Cup squad,” he concluded.

Australia and West Indies will be playing their second T20I match on February 11 at Adelaide Oval.
