The Netherlands Cricket Board announces the 15-member squad on September 07, 2023, for the upcoming ICC Men’s World Cup 2023.

With the inclusion of the experienced duo van der Merwe and Colin Ackermann, Scott Edwards will be captaining the squad for the marquee event in India. They had a major role during the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2022 in Australia.
Ackermann was the second-highest run-scorer for the Netherlands at the tournament, while van der Merwe supported the team through his role. They have plenty of experience in domestic competitions around the world.
On this occasion, left-arm quick Fred Klassen will be missing the tournament due to his injury with a stress fracture. The head coach Ryan Cook said that the Netherlands side will be missing a major part of the bowling attack.
“Obviously Fred would be gutted to miss out. He would have been a big part of the bowling attack,” he said.
The comeback of an injured player Tim Pringle from a major operation is pointless as he is having some niggles with the injury and was excluded from the squad. But he will be in the first choices as injury back-up.
The off-spinner and right-handed batter Sybrand Engelbrecht, is making it into the squad for the first time and will be playing his first World Cup after his impressive performance in the U19 World Cup for South Africa in 2008.
Other players like Kyle Klein and Noah Croes have been excluded from the squad but will be traveling to India to gain experience.
Under ICC regulations all teams are given a deadline of September 28 to announce their World Cup 2023 squad.
It will be the first time the competition is held entirely in India; three previous editions were partially hosted there – 1987, 1996, and 2011.
As of the previous edition, the 2023 edition will also follow the same format where each participating team will play the other nine teams once in the group stage where a total of 45 group matches will be played. The top 4 teams of the ICC ODI World Cup points table will enter the knockout stage to play semifinal 1 and semifinal 2.
With World Cup 2023 set to start on October 5 in India, the Netherlands will be playing two warmup matches against Australia and India before starting their World Cup campaign. They will be playing their first World Cup match against Pakistan on October 6 at Rajiv Gandhi International stadium.
