“No Harm In Having A New Coach”, Ravi Shastri On Split Coaching

Former Indian spinner Harbhajan Singh and former Indian head coach Ravi Shastri make a positive comment on the split coaching.

Various former cricketers and cricket experts start to react to the BCCI’s decision of appointing a New T20 Coach for the Indian Team. The plans of a separate T20I coach and T20I captain emerged following India’s back-to-back defeats in the international series.

Recently, India lost the ODI series to New Zealand and faced an embarrassing defeat to Bangladesh in the first ODI. India lost the first match of the 3-match ODI series by 1 wicket and breaks the hearts of million.

The Indian cricket team was scheduled to play 3 ODIs and 2 Tests during the India tour of Bangladesh 2022.

    Harbhajan Singh on Split Coaching

The spin great Harbhajan Singh suggests BCCI to combine Ashish Nehra and Rahul Dravid to work together. Notably, IPL 2022 winners Gujarat Titans won their first title in their maiden season under head coach Ashish.

“Someone who has played the game more recently is better suited for the coaching job in T20s. I am not saying you remove Rahul from T20. Ashish and Rahul can work together to build this team for the 2024 World Cup,” Harbhajan recently told PTI.

    Ravi Shastri on Split Coaching

Ravi Shastri who was the former head of the Indian cricket team also recommends a having separate coach and captain for the Indian T20I team.

“I think for T20 cricket, there’s no harm in having a new captain, new coach because the volume of cricket is such that for one person to play or manage all three formats of the game is never going to be easy,” Shastri was quoted during recent virtual news conference.

This will not be the new playing condition for the cricket community. The 2022 T20 World Cup champions England follow the same method. They have Brendon McCullum for Test cricket and Matthew Mott for white-ball cricket.

The Brendon McCullum and Ben Stokes combination scripted a record in the 1st Test match against Pakistan where the team trashed the host by a 74 runs defeat. Apart from losing the match, Team India was also fined 80 percent of the match fee for maintaining a slow over rate.

Notably, India will be playing their last Test match of the series while BCCI hosts the IPL 2023 players auction on December 23.

The second ODI match of the Bangladesh series will be played on December 7 in Shere Bangla National Stadium, Dhaka. While the last ODI match will be played on December 10.

The two-match Test series will be played on December 14, and December 22 at Zahur Ahmed Chowdhury Stadium, Chattogram, and Shere Bangla National Stadium, Dhaka.
