Bangladesh wicket-keeper batsman Mushfiqur Rahim is set to miss the upcoming West Indies tour.
Mushfiqur Rahim Skips West Indies Tour
The BCB has allowed Mushfiqur Rahim to skip the West Indies tour after he requested the board to allow him to perform Hajj this year. Notably, Rahim informed the board before the Sri Lanka series.
This year’s Hajj will take place between July 7 – 12, for which Mushfiqur is likely to travel to Saudi Arabia on June 22.
“He informed us before the Sri Lanka series that he wants to perform Hajj this year,” Jalal Yunus, BCB’s cricket operations chairman, said.
“When he got confirmation, he gave us a letter that he wanted leave. We have granted him the time. We had an initial thought that he might be available for part of the tour but he is off for the whole tour.”
It will be a huge blow for Bangladesh, especially in the Test format, considering they will be missing four key players – Taskin Ahmed, Shoriful Islam, and Nayeem Hasan – due to their respective injuries.
Nayeem Hasan who played a crucial role in the 1st Test vs Sri Lanka has been ruled out of the ongoing Sri Lanka series and upcoming West Indies series owing to a finger injury.
Bangladesh is expected to leave Dhaka on June 6 for the tour, comprising two Tests along with three ODIs and T20Is each.
The first Test between West Indies and Bangladesh will kick start on June 16 in Sir Vivian Richards Stadium, North Sound, Antigua. The second Test match will be played in Daren Sammy National Cricket Stadium, Gros Islet, St Lucia from June 24-28.
The opening two T20Is will be played in Dominica respectively on July 2 and 3 while the third will be played in Guyana on July 7. The three ODIs are also scheduled in Guyana on July 10, 13, and 16.
Notably, only the Test series is part of the World Test Championship while the ODIs are not part of the Super League.
