He made his last appearance in competitive cricket during the World Cup finals on November 19. Since then he has been absent from India’s tour of South Africa, the T20I series against Afghanistan, and the ongoing test series on England’s tour of India 2024.
Meanwhile, India secured the series win against England after their 5-wicket victory in the fourth test of the home tour at Ranchi. They will enter the Dharmasala ground with a 3-1 lead to play in the fifth test starting on March 07.
It is confirmed that the player was ruled out for the entire IPL 2024. Moreover, his participation in the T20 World Cup in June also remains uncertain.
He was part of the Gujarat Titans squad during the previous IPL season and was retained by the squad before the mini-auction in December.
Before undergoing surgery, Shami sought an opinion in London after the management at the NCA in Bengaluru. With Shami ruled out, the franchise will be looking for a replacement player.
After Hardik Pandya traded to Mumbai Indians, Shubman Gill is set to lead Gujarat in the IPL. Gujarat will be playing their first match of the IPL 2024 schedule against Mumbai.
The IPL 2024 season is set to begin on March 22 with Chennai Super Kings and Royal Challengers Bangalore clashing in the first match at MA Chidambaram Stadium.
