During the IPL 2023 opening match – GT vs CSK, Kane Williamson injured himself while attempting to catch at the boundary rope. Williamson attempted a catch on the boundary line and hurts his knees while landing on the field. He leaves the field immediately and Sai Sudharsan replaced him as an impact player.

Gujarat Titans roped Kane Williamson at his base price in the IPL 2023 Auction after SRH released him. Gujarat Titans have named Sri Lankan Allrounder Dasun Shanaka as the replacement player for Kane Williamson in the ongoing IPL 2023.

“Naturally it’s disappointing to get such an injury, but my focus now is on having the surgery and starting rehab. It’s going to take some time but I’ll be doing everything I can to get back on the field as soon as possible”, Williamson said in a statement.

ICC World Test Championship 2021 winning captain Kane Williamson has stepped down as the captain of the New Zealand Test team in December 2022 and Tim Southee was named as his replacement.

Williamson still remains the captain of New Zealand in ODI and T20I cricket and has reiterated his desire to play all three formats internationally.
