Jadeja Scripts Rare Record With Steve Smith’s Dismissal

R Jadeja dismissed Steve Smith for 37 runs in the 42nd over. The first Test of the 4-match test series is scheduled to begin on February 9 at Nagpur. Winning the toss, Australia choose to bat first where Indian skipper Rohit Sharma too expressed that he would also choose to bat if the toss went in their favour.

Mohammed Shami opened the bowling attack whereas David Warner and Usman Khawaja opened the Australian inning. In the second over, Siraj dismissed Khawaja in the very first delivery and draws the first blood for the Australian batting unit.

The early dismissal took the Indian team to fly high in joy. Apart from the players, Indian head coach Rahul Dravid too expressed his joy from the dressing room.

In the followed over, Shami dismissed David Warner for 1 run and stuns the Australian team. Following a couple of early wickets, Australia batters Steve Smith and Marnus Labuschagne made a steady stand.

The duo scored 82 runs for the next wicket. Ravindra Jadeja broke the partnership by dismissing Labuschagne for 49 runs. In the followed delivery, Jadeja dismissed Matt Renshaw for a golden duck.

Though wickets flow in one end, India still threatened with the game changer Steve Smith on the crease. But R Jadeja in the 42nd over dismissed Steve Smith and relieved India from the pressure.

Ravindra Jadeja becomes the first-ever bowler to bowl out Steve Smith 3 times in Test format. Before this, Jadeja dismissed Steve Smith for 18 runs at Delhi and for 21 runs at Ranchi. Notably, all three dismissals are in India.

Against Australia, Jadeja bagged 67 wickets from playing 23 Test innings.

As far as the match is concerned, India ended the Aussies 1st inning for 177 runs where Jadeja bagged his 11th 5-wicket haul in Test format. Ravichandran Ashwin bagged three wickets while Shami and Siraj each bagged one wicket.
