Ashwin dismissed Alick Athanaze who made his debut missed his first 50 with three runs behind. Chanderpaul had made his 12 runs as part of the 31-run partnership in opening alongside Kraig Brathwaite. Brathwaite was taken out by Ashwin after he score 20 runs.
Speaking about his performance, Ashwin said: “Pretty good performance. There was moisture in the pitch in the first session. It got slow and started to spin a bit more. It got a lot slower.
Personally enjoyed my first spell and had to adapt a bit more after. Not surprised with the pitch, expected it to be a bit dry. In my previous tours of the West Indies, it also tends to be slow when it spins.”
“(Evolve about the game) It is the most important trait to be an international cricket. With so many leagues, we can get carried away with league performances but international cricket is all about getting better all the time.
Jaiswal just reverse-swept the first ball of the last over! That’s what you can expect from him. He is very vibrant, hope he goes far. From our side, we hope to keep the environment good for him.”
Ravichandran Ashwin has achieved getting the wickets of both father and son in his Test career after he dismissed Tagenarine Chanderpaul on the first day of the 1st Test of the West Indies tour 2023.
Ashwin achieved a milestone after dismissing Alzarri Joseph for his third wicket. He joins the elite club for achieving 700 wickets in his career and becomes the third Indian after Anil Kumble (956) and Harbhajan Singh (711).
Ashwin who made his Test debut in 2011 dismissed Tagenarine’s father Shivnarine Chanderpaul during his maiden appearance in the long format.
Ashwin had trapped Shivarine Chanderpaul in the second innings of that Test match which happened 12 years back and he becomes the fifth bowler in world cricket to dismiss both summer and son in his career.
Ashwin who had 474 Test wickets before this match, bowled Tangenarine and dismissed him, making him the fifth bowler to dismiss both father and son.
Chanderpaul father-son is been thrice on the list of the father and son duo dismissal. The other two bowlers are Australian Fast Bowler Mitchell Starc and South Africa off-spinner Simon Harmer who dismissed the Chanderpauls.
It was due to the late retirement of Shivnarine Chanderpaul in 2015, while his son made his debut on the test last year. Ashwin dismissed Shivnarine four times in his career across eight innings on India’s West Indies Tour between 2011 and 2023.
Yashasvi’s maiden century in WI test series
Yashasvi Jaiswal, the 21 years old year batter, has made his century in the First Test against West Indies and will be looking forward to contributing more in the upcoming days.
Jaiswal had been in the field for the entire Day 2, scoring 143 runs and making a team score of 312 at the end of the day.
Yashasvi Jaiswal was always aiming for greater heights. Since his u-19 days, Jaiswal consistency and talent made him shine among his peers. His talent and skills in domestic cricket and IPL gave enough proof to be selected for the West Indies tour.
Jaiswal took only one inning to prove the team’s management faith in him. Opening the innings in the first Test in Dominica, he becomes the third Indian opener to slam a century after Prithvi Shaw and Shikhar Dhawan.
