Rohit highlights Shami’s comeback for WC Finals

With India running an unbeaten streak in the World Cup 2023 edition, the Indian skipper Rohit Sharma praised on the return of Mohammed Shami as the leadup to the finals. The hosts are aiming to end their ICC trophy drought for 10 years.

Speaking to the reporters on the eve of Finals, Rohit praised Shami for his comeback in ODIs. The all-rounder Hardik Pandya’s injury in the match against Bangladesh paid way for the Pacer Shami to be part of the India’s squad.

It was tough for Mohammed Shami not to be part of the World Cup initially. He was there to help Mohammed Siraj, and it shows his quality. We told him why he wasn’t part of it and he worked in nets. The results are showing and say a lot about him,” Rohit told reporters.

The bowlers are the reason behind on India’s victory in consecutive 10 matches. The spinners and Pacers domination had a big impact in the competition. Jasprit Bumrah, Mohammed Shami, Mohammed Siraj, Kuldeep Yadav and Ravindra Jadeja have been the attacking power of the side in the competition.

Shami lead the list of highest wicket taker in the tournament with 23 wickets from 6 matches while Bumrah dismissed 18 wickets. Siraj, Kuldeep and Jadeja had taken 13, 15 and 16 wickets respectively.

While team India remains as the favourites in the World Cup 2023, former player Gundappa Viswanath had warned the side on Australian batting order. The openers Warner and Travis Head have the potential to break through the defenses of the bowling and warned them saying India will not be having an easy victory.

“Australia’s batting is quite good. David Warner and Travis Head can destroy any bowler and with Mitchell Marsh, and (Steve) Smith, if Maxwell comes good, it is a balanced side. So can’t say that India can (win),” Viswanath was quoted as saying by news agency PTI.

“I mean, India should win but you can’t take it for granted. It won’t be a cakewalk. If Australia gets an inch they won’t leave it, that is their hallmark. Till the last ball, they will fight. So, it is going to be one hell of a match.

“It is going to be a terrific match. India playing in India, and especially like the way they are playing in all departments, this gives a lot of hope to the fans,” he added.

“Sometimes you lose faith when you see a big partnership of opposition but that time also they kept their head high, that’s a terrific approach. We managed to carry on with five bowlers and never felt the need for a sixth bowler.

“Terrific approach, terrific consistency, and everyone knows their job, all the batters are doing well, and bowling and captaincy are also good. So, one more game to go,” he concluded.

India and Australia will be playing the finals of the World Cup 2023 edition on November 19 at Narendra Modi Stadium.
