ICC has announced the September 2023 Women’s Player of the Month nominees which includes two South African players and a Sri Lankan batter.
September 2023 Women’s Player of the Month Nominees
The candidates selected as the nominees of the September 2023 Women’s Player of the Month are Laura Wolvaardt (South Africa), Nadine de Klerk (South Africa), and Chamari Athapaththu (Sri Lanka).
Laura Wolvaardt (South Africa)
The South African right-hander was impressive during the September month as she had excellent form with the bat against Pakistan and New Zealand. Appointed as the captain, she led her side to victory in ODIs against Pakistan.
She was impressive during the ODI series against New Zealand on home soil, smashing 50 and 124* in two ODI matches.
Wolvaardt scored 204 runs in ODI in September with an average of 51 and had 157 runs in T20I matches with an average of 52.33.
Nadine de Klerk (South Africa)
The Young South African all-rounder was impressive with both bat and ball during the month of September. He smashed a fifty in the final match of South Africa against Pakistan in home away series. She helped the side with her unbeaten 58* in the opening game of the series with New Zealand.
The 23-year-old player’s best bowling figures in her career come from the second match against Pakistan where she had 4/32 bowling 8 overs.
Chamari Athapaththu (Sri Lanka)
The spinner led the side to a stunning victory in the series against England at the start of the month. She wasn’t impressive with her batting performance in the ODI series but came up with an outstanding performance in T20Is.
Athapaththu scored a half-century against England, but she was down in her batting performance during the Asia Cup in September against Thailand, Pakistan and India.
Player of the Month voting process
The Nominees from either category are shortlisted based on their performance by the last day of the month. The Candidates are shortlisted and voted by the ICC Voting Academy and fans around the World.
The ICC Voting Academy consists of well-known journalists, former players, and ICC Hall of Fame members. They submit their votes by email which becomes 90% of the voting members.
The fans who are registered with ICC can also vote via the ICC website through icc-cricket.com/awards, which gives the remaining 10 per cent. Winners will be announced every second Monday of the month.
