ICC has announced the Men’s Player of the Month Nominees for March 2024 which includes pacers from Ireland and New Zealand and an all-rounder from Sri Lanka.
Men’s Player of the Month Nominees
The candidates selected as the nominees of the Men’s Player of the Month March 2024 are Mark Adair (Ireland), Matt Henry (New Zealand), and Kamindu Mendis (Sri Lanka).
Mark Adair (Ireland)
Mark Adair has been an integral part of the Ireland squad in all formats since his international debut in 2019 and has been the key player during the side’s victory over Afghanistan in March.
He was impressive with the ball in the first innings where he picked maiden five-wicket haul. He had returns of 5/39 helping the side to all out Afghanistan for 155.
He then went to pick up the crucial wickets of Ibrahim Zadran, Rahmat Shah, and Hashmatullah Shahidi in the second innings to dismiss Afghanistan for 218 runs. He was named the Player of the Match for his brilliant performance in the game and had eight wickets with an average of 11.87.
He also picked three wickets in the ODI series and five wickets in the T20I series of Afghanistan vs Ireland 2024.
Matt Henry (New Zealand)
The pacer Matt Henry put up an impressive display in test format against Australia. He picked up 17 wickets during the Australia tour of New Zealand in 2024.
He picked up 5/70 and 3/36 in the first test and also scored 42 and 14 runs with the bat. Although Australia won the match, Matt Henry was impressive during the entire test series.
Black Caps were bowled out for 162 runs in the first innings and Matt Henry dismissed seven Australia batters to keep a lead of 94. He joined Ben Sears to pick 4 wickets for 34. But Mitchell Marsh and Alex Carey’s brilliant knocks helped the visitors to win the series. But Henry was named as the Player of the Series award.
Kamindu Mendis (Sri Lanka)
After his comeback, Kamindu had an impressive month where he scored 68 runs in the T20I series on Sri Lanka’s tour of Bangladesh, He was at top-notch during the first test against Bangladesh where his partnership with Dhananjaya de Silva posted a brilliant 202 runs helping the side to revive from 57/5.
He was better in the second inning posting 173 runs for the seven-wicket with Dhananjaya helping the side to score a target of 511.
Player of the Month voting process
The Nominees from either category are shortlisted based on their performance by the last day of the month. The Candidates are shortlisted and voted by the ICC Voting Academy and fans around the World.
The ICC Voting Academy consists of well-known journalists, former players, and ICC Hall of Fame members. They submit their votes by email which becomes 90% of the voting members.
The fans who are registered with ICC can also vote via the ICC website through icc-cricket.com/awards, which gives the remaining 10 percent. Winners will be announced every second Monday of the month.
