ICC has announced the Men’s Player of the Month December 2023 Nominees which include the World Cup champion skipper, a player from Bangladesh, and a New Zealand allrounder.
Men’s Player of the Month December 2023 nominees
The candidates selected as the nominees of the Men’s Player of the Month December 2023 Nominees are Pat Cummins (Australia), Taijul Islam (Bangladesh), and Glenn Phillips (New Zealand).
Pat Cummins (Australia)
Pat Cummins had a brilliant career in the year 2023, out of which he stood firmly in contention for the Sir Garfield Sobers Trophy in the ICC Awards 2023.
He was impressive during the second Test in Pakistan’s Australia tour 2023-24 at the Melbourne Test where he had 10 wickets including a 5/48 in the second innings to clinch victory.
He picked 13 wickets over the two test matches including his 250th wicket in the longest format and he could win his first Player of the Month award.
Taijul Islam (Bangladesh)
The Young player Taijul Islam who made his maiden nomination for the ICC Players of the Month awards, produced a brilliant spell on their first test on the New Zealand tour of Bangladesh 2023 where Bangladesh won their Tests against the visiting Blackcaps in Sylhet.
He dismissed four batters in the first innings where they won the match by 150 runs. He claimed another five wickets which earned him the Player of the Series award.
Glenn Phillips (New Zealand)
While Taijul Islam has shined and made it to the Player of the Month Nominees for Bangladesh, Glenn Phillips shined for New Zealand as they won the second test match against Bangladesh to level the series 1-1.
He grabbed five wickets during the match. He scored an impressive 87 runs out of New Zealand‘s 180 runs and helped the side to win the match.
Player of the Month voting process
The Nominees from either category are shortlisted based on their performance by the last day of the month. The Candidates are shortlisted and voted by the ICC Voting Academy and fans around the World.
The ICC Voting Academy consists of well-known journalists, former players, and ICC Hall of Fame members. They submit their votes by email which becomes 90% of the voting members.
The fans who are registered with ICC can also vote via the ICC website through icc-cricket.com/awards, which gives the remaining 10 percent. Winners will be announced every second Monday of the month.
