The spinner Chamari Athapathutu led the side to a stunning victory in the series against England at the start of the month of September. She wasn’t impressive with her batting performance in the ODI series but came up with an outstanding performance in T20Is.
The intermediate captain led the side to claim their first-ever series win over England in any format where they won two T20I matches.
Chamari Athapaththu had played over 98 ODIs in her international career and amassed 3255 runs with an average of 34.26 and a high score of 178*. She bowled in 48 innings dismissing 28 wickets with an average of 46.21 and an economy of 5.60.
She had played 122 T20I matches where she scored 2651 runs and a high score of 113 with an average of 22.65. She bowled over 65 innings dismissing 40 wickets with an average of 29.67 and an economy of 6.70.
Chamari Athapathutu was named the player of the series for scoring 114 runs and dismissing 5 wickets in the T20I series they played against England in the month. The all-rounder scored 55 and 44 runs against England, along with bowling figures of 1/11 and 3/21.
The 33-year-old amassed 208 runs with an average of 26 across five Wt20I and three WODIs in September. The off-spinner dismissed five wickets for the month with an average of 26.61 in the limited-overs formats.
She is placed in the No.3 in the MRF Tyres ICC Women’s ODI batting Rankings and No.7 in the Women’s T20I batting rankings.

Player of the Month voting process
The Nominees from either category are shortlisted based on their performance by the last day of the month. The Candidates are shortlisted and voted by the ICC Voting Academy and fans around the World.
The ICC Voting Academy consists of well-known journalists, former players, and ICC Hall of Fame members. They submit their votes by email which becomes 90% of the voting members.
The fans who are registered with ICC can also vote via the ICC website through icc-cricket.com/awards, which gives the remaining 10 per cent. Winners will be announced every second Monday of the month.
