BCCI declares Rishabh Pant Fit for IPL 2024

On March 12, BCCI’s medical team declared that Rishabh Pant is fit to play as Wicketkeeper batter.

The 26-year-old was under a rehabilitation program at NCA after suffering several injuries during a car accident in December 2022.

“After undergoing an extensive 14-month rehab and recovery process, following a life-threatening road mishap on December 30th, 2022, near Roorkee, Uttarakhand, Rishabh Pant has now been declared fit as a wicket-keeper batter for the upcoming TATA IPL 2024,” BCCI said in its medical update.

Meanwhile, Gujarat Titans pacer Mohammed Shami will ruled out of the IPL 2024 tournament after undergoing surgery on his right kneel. He was monitored by the medical team to be fit before the T20 World Cup 2024 which is set to begin in June.

On the other hand, BCCI has confirmed that Rajasthan Royals pacer Prasidh Krishna will be missing the tournament due to a recently undergone surgical procedure on the left proximal quadriceps tendon.

He is set to miss the second season for Rajasthan Royals after a lumbar stress fracture put him out of action last year.

He recovered from a major injury and made his test debut on India’s tour of South Africa last year before being sidelined during the early stages of the Ranji Trophy.

Recently Delhi Capitals coach Ricky Ponting also revealed about Pant’s availability for IPL 2024.

“It’s a big decision we’ll have to make because if he is fit, you’d think he’d step straight back into that captaincy role,” Ponting said.

“If he’s not entirely fit and we have to use him in a slightly different role, then we’ve got some decisions to make there.”

After Ponting’s statement, the BCCI secretary revealed that the door to T20 World Cup 2024 is open for Pant if he is fit to play.

While speaking in the media Jay Shah said, “Pant is doing well and he is batting and is also keeping. In the near future, we (BCCI) will declare him fit.”

He termed Pant as a “big asset” for Team India. “If he can play the T20 World Cup for us, that will be a big thing for us. He is a big asset for us,” added Shah.

The 17th edition of the IPL 2024 season is set to begin on March 22 with Chennai Super Kings and Royal Challengers Bangalore in the first match of the tournament.

Delhi Capitals will be playing their first match against Punjab Kings on March 23 at Punjab Cricket Association Stadium.
