With the all-rounder Hardik Pandya rejoined Mumbai Indians franchise, the Indian star and opener Shubman Gill was named as Gujarat Titans captain for upcoming IPL season.
Shubman Gill named as Gujarat Titans Captain
Gujarat Titans announced Shubman Gill as the Gujarat Titans captain after the transfer announcement of the all-rounder Hardik Pandya was formalised.
Shubman Gill has played 33 games for Gujarat Titans in their two seasons in the IPL and amassed 1373 runs. He was part of the Gujarat Titans squad who won the winner of the IPL season 2022. Despite his 890 runs in 16 games, the side finished up as runners in the IPL season 2023.
“Shubman Gill has shown growth in stature and standing over the last two years at the highest level of the game. We’ve seen him mature not only as a batter but also as a leader in cricket,” said Vikram Solanki, the director of Gujarat Titans.
His contribution on the field has helped Gujarat Titans emerge as a formidable force, guiding the team through a successful campaign in 2022 and a strong run in 2023. His maturity and skill is evident in his on-field performance and we are extremely excited to embark on a new journey with a young leader like Shubman at the helm.”
While asked about the decision of the management, Shubman Gill said “I am delighted and proud to assume the captaincy of Gujarat Titans and thank the franchise for their trust in me to lead such a fine team. We have had two exceptional seasons and I keenly look forward to leading the team with our exciting brand of cricket,” he concluded.
Mean While, Mumbai Indians welcomed Pandya on rejoining the side. “We are thrilled to welcome Hardik back home! It’s a heart-warming reunion with our Mumbai Indians family! From being a young scouted talent of Mumbai Indians to now being a Team India star, Hardik has come a long way and we’re excited for what the future holds for him and Mumbai Indians!”
The sources from Mumbai Indians said, “Hardik’s return marks his homecoming to the #OneFamily where he joins forces again with Rohit Sharma, Jasprit Bumrah, Suryakumar Yadav, Ishan Kishan, and the team. He first came to prominence for MI and then went on to debut for India in 2016.”

With the mini auction is scheduled to start in dec 19, 2023, the IPL 2024 edition will begin on March 23, 2024.
