IND vs WI 2022: Shikhar Dhawan and Iyer Cleared to Resume Training

Dhawan and Iyer Cleared to Resume Training: Indian senior opening batsman Shikhar Dhawan and youngster Shreyas Iyer who tested positive for COVID19 before the 1st ODI against West Indies had a training session yesterday.

Though the former Delhi Capitals duo attends the training session with other players it is highly unlikely for them to be drafted into the playing XI of the team.

Today Indian cricket team may have a slight change in their playing XI as KL Rahul and Mayank Agarwal have returned to the squad who missed the opening match of the ODI series.

Dhawan and Iyer Cleared to Resume Training

Sources in the know of developments confirmed that Dhawan and Iyer have been cleared to train.

“Yes, Shikhar and Shreyas have tested negative for COVID-19 and they have been cleared to train. Ruturaj Gaikwad is still in isolation,” the source pointed.

On February 2, three Indian main players  – Dhawan, Shreyas Iyer and reserve opener Ruturaj Gaikwad have tested positive for COVID19 during their mandatory isolation period before the start of the West Indies limited over series.

Navdeep Saini who joined the squad as the net bowler too tested positive for COVID19. Saini later got cleared and started his training in nets on Monday(February 7).

Earlier in the series opener match, Rohit Sharma led India beats West Indies by 6 wickets and leads the 3 match ODI series. The 3 matches of the ODI series are scheduled to play in Narendra Modi Stadium, Ahmedabad inorder to avoid the players from exposing to the deadly virus.

Winning the toss team India decides to bowl first and starts the innings with the much-expected bowling attack. The Windies players struggles to face the Indian bowling attack and ended their innings with a score of 176 runs.

While chasing 177 run target Indian openers laid a strong foundation by scoring 84 runs for their first wicket. By maintaining a descent run rate India won the match by 6 wickets at the end of the 28th over and leads the series by 1-0.
