Melbourne Stars Batting

Stoinis and Joe Clarke get into the crease to lead Melbourne Stars while Steketee opens the bowling attack.

Steketee in the second ball of the over dismissed Stoinis for duck and makes the early wicket as expected. In the following back-to-back overs, Liam Guthrie dismissed Burns and Steketee dismissed Maxwell and shakes the Star’s batting unit to collapse.

At the end of the 6 overs, Melbourne Stars scored 38 runs for 3 wickets loss. Joe Clarke and Hilton Cartwright join hands and lead Melbourne Stars to score 85 runs for 3 wickets loss at the end of the 10 overs.

The duo made a quite impressing and well-needed partnership and drags Melbourne Stars to score 167 runs for 4 wickets loss. In the final delivery of the 15th over Liam Guthrie dismissed Cartwright for 79 runs and breaks the partnership.

Mujeeb in the 17th over dismissed Joe Clarke for 85 runs and sent the aggressive batsman back to the Pavillion. At the end of the 20 overs, Melbourne Stars scored 207 runs for 9 wickets loss.

Brisbane Heat Batting

Bryant and Chris Lynn get to the crease to chase down the target of 208 runs while Brody Couch opens the bowling attack.

Brody Couch in the very first over dismissed Bryant and Tom Cooper for 2 and 8 runs respectively. The two early wickets may get into the favor of Melbourne Stars’ but they still need to bowl strictly in order to make their victory.

Chris Lynn and Ben Duckett make a steady partnership and lead the team to score 57 runs for 2 wickets loss at the end of the 6 overs.  Chris Lynn in the middle of the 7th over hits a 106 meter six and threatens the opponents.

At the end of the 10 overs, Brisbane Heat scored 91 runs for 2 wickets loss. Coulter-Nile in the 11th over breaks the partnership by dismissing Duckett for 54 runs. But Chris Lynn on the other hand stands tall and hits back-to-back sixes right after the dismissal delivery.

finally, Qais Ahmad puts an end to Chris Lynn’s innings by dismissing him for 57 runs. Though the victory is in reach, Brisbane Heat loses wickets in regular intervals and fails to make a partnership which makes them to score 187 runs for 9 wickets loss at the end of the 20 overs.

Melbourne Stars win by 20 runs and record their first win in three games.

Player of the Match

Joe Clarke | Melbourne Stars

Bat: 85 runs off 44 balls(4’s – 7; 6’s – 5)

“I was running with Hilton Cartwright and he’s pushing me to run hard as we needed to gather momentum after the loss of early wickets and hopefully it’s nothing serious ( hammy injury).

We lost some key players early and not easy to go big from ball one. We had the momentum when we took the power surge and we gained the momentum after that. Someone of Andre’s (Russell) calibre is always going to be a big miss and hopefully, we will get to see him again.
