Wasim Jaffer opines that team management shouldn’t overlook MS Dhoni for the T20 World Cup if he is fit and in form

Former Indian player Wasim Jaffer suggest Indian selection panel should include MS Dhoni in their squad for the upcoming T20 world cup. Previously former Indian opener Virender Sehwag suggest India to stick with their current wicket-keeper batsman.

    Dhoni’s replacement

Pant and KL Rahul names were suggested for the Dhoni’s position where KL Rahul proves his form. At first Pant was tried out but he squandered the chances before the team-management handed the wicketkeeping gloves to Rahul. KL Rahul showed his impressive bat work in 3rd ODI against New Zealand and makes a list of records with his impressive ton.

Wasim Jaffer who recently announced his retirement from all forms of cricket states that inclusion of Dhoni in team would relieve the wicket keeping pressure as Dhoni have an out standing performance behind the stumps.

    BCCI regards Dhoni’s return

Earlier BCCI officials including Ganguly states that Dhoni’s performance in IPL plays a crucial role for him to get his slot back in International squad. Execution of Indian Premier League(IPL) flunked into doubt by the ongoing COVID 19 pandemic. Which makes the netizens to raise the question regarding MS Dhoni’s future in cricket carrier.

    Wasim Jaffer’s suggestion

Jaffer believes that the team management shouldn’t overlook the former India skipper to prove his batting style in IPL if he is fit and in form. Jaffer added that his inclusion will unburden in form KL Rahul off the gloves duty and it gives team management the leverage to try young gun Rishabh Pant as a specialist batter.

“If Dhoni is fit and in form I think we can’t look beyond him as he’ll be an asset behind the stumps and also lower down the order. It’ll take the pressure of keeping off Rahul and India can play Pant as a batsman too if they want a lefty. #Dhoni #MSDhoni #IPL2020,” Jaffer tweeted.

What will Happen to Dhoni’s Carrier if IPL 2020 Cancelled Due to Coronavirus Pandemic

Former Indian cricketer Aakash Chopra on Tuesday reckoned that if the Indian cricket team management requires MS Dhoni, he will return to the squad with or without the 13th season of the Indian Premier League. Indian head coach previously states that MS Dhoni would get his slot back only if he perform well in the IPL 2020.

BCCI’s new Idea of hosting IPL

But due to the coronavirus outbreak, BCCI decides to postpone the tournament to the mid of April. And also hints that IPL could cancelled if it cross it’s deadline(April 20). After this announcement IPL owners had a conference call on March 16 and comes out with a decision focusing the safety of the peoples. But the BCCI is in no mood to give up on its hopes of conducting the IPL and is reportedly planning to stage the tournament in July-September if things do not improve in the coming days.

The report further stated that BCCI is planning to host the IPL in July-September if things do not improve in the coming days. The Future Tours Programme (FTP) for the year 2020 has little of consequence between the months of July and September barring the Asia Cup T20 in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) scheduled in September and England hosting Pakistan at home before playing Ireland in the white-ball format.

    Aakash Chopra’s view on Dhoni

“For a player like Dhoni, IPL was never going to be a yardstick,” Chopra said in a YouTube video. “If he had scored runs in the IPL, experts would have been like ‘select Dhoni’, ‘do this and do that’. MS Dhoni knows what he is doing, whether he wants to come back or not.”

“IPL, I don’t think was a critical factor. If he wants to come back, he will make himself available, if the selectors decide to pick him, he will be picked automatically because you won’t get experience in supermarkets. Dhoni is a hugely experienced player. If India needs MS Dhoni, then with or without IPL, he will come back.”

    Sunil joshi regards Dhoni

While he has remained tight-lipped about his future in international cricket, the team management and the selectors have made it clear that a good IPL performance can only bring him back to the senior team.

“He will be back in the reckoning only if he has a good IPL. And why only him? There are so many senior and young players who will play in the IPL. If they do well, they ought to be considered too. So, you could see some surprise inclusions,” a senior BCCI source had told the Press Trust of India after Sunil Joshi took over from MSK Prasad as the chairman of selectors.

Dhoni’s Return to Indian Squad seems Difficult: Virender Sehwag

The former Indian player Virender Sehwag says that it would be difficult for MS Dhoni to make a way back to Indian International squad. Former Indian skipper MS Dhoni eventually seen in action in the 2019 world cup semi finals against New Zealand where India lost the match. Dhoni himself made unavailable for the further International matches after that.

With Dhoni out of action, India have tried out the likes of Rishabh Pant and KL Rahul as the wicketkeeper-batsman and the latter has been really impressive. At first Pant was tried out but he squandered the chances before the team-management handed the wicketkeeping gloves to Rahul.

KL Rahul showed his impressive bat work in 3rd ODI against New Zealand makes a list of records with his impressive ton.

Dhoni’s last leg to make his return

Dhoni is expected to make his way back to the competitive games through the IPL 2020. But due to coronavirus pandemic the IPL has been postponed to mid of April. BCCI also released a new update to host the tournament in July 2020.

BCCI assured that Dhoni’s performance in IPL would have a chance to bring him back to the squad. But with uncertainty over the tournament this year, Dhoni’s plans might have taken a big hit. And amidst all these, Sehwag believes that with Rahul and Pant in the team, there is no place for Dhoni.

“Where will he fit in? With the likes of Rishabh Pant and KL Rahul already in form, especially the latter performing exceptionally well of late, I think there is no reason why we should not stick with them,” Sehwag was quoted as saying by India.com.

    Sehwag defend Kohli

Virender Sehwag also defend Indian skipper Virat Kohli who faces criticism for his poor form in New Zealand tour. Virat Kohli literally failed to make a descent score during the Kiwi’s tour and also lost the No.1 position in the test ranking.

“He [Kohli] is a class batsman but that has happened to all the great batsmen in different eras be it Sachin Tendulkar, Steven Waugh, Jacques Kallis or Ricky Ponting,” Sehwag said.. “We must admit that the Kiwis were superior to us in the ODIs and Tests. In the T20s, Kiwis lost close matches. In the shortest format it is always difficult to make a quick comeback.”

It looks like the BCCI finally made up its mind on going the distance to conduct the thirteenth edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL). In the wake of the coronavirus pandemic, the BCCI has postponed the league to April 15 as a precautionary measure. Where the experts comes out with possible six ways to host if IPL starts from April 15.

Previous the announcement IPL franchise agreed to play the match behind the closed door where they request to permit the foreign players against the visa restriction imposed by Indian Government. BCCI made the announcement after their meeting on March 14(Saturday) and hints IPL may called off if it cross it’s deadline(April 20).

After this announcement IPL owners had a conference call on March 16 and comes out with a decision focusing the safety of the peoples. But the BCCI is in no mood to give up on its hopes of conducting the IPL and is reportedly planning to stage the tournament in July-September if things do not improve in the coming days.

The Indian cricket board report a decision that if it can’t host the IPL in the country, it would move to a different venue. The board is also ready to host the tournament at a later date even if all the players will not be available. Thus contrary to the recent reports, the BCCI is not ready at all to cancel the IPL this year altogether.

“The 2009 IPL – in South Africa – was played inside 37 days. That’s five weeks and two days. If that kind of a window is made available, the IPL can be held partly in India and partly overseas, or the entire tournament can be shifted, depending on how the Covid-19 situation is globally,” a source told the Times of India.

There is not much international cricket during this proposed July-September window. The ICC T20 World Cup 2020 in Australia will start in the third week of October, and no dates so far are confirmed for the Asia Cup 2020 in the month of September.

The Asia Cup in September could make things tricky for India who are also set to visit Sri Lanka in June/July for a short ODI and T20I series. The BCCI is currently planning on how to tweak the schedule.

“Next few days things just got worse and worse”:Ricky Ponting Opens Talk on “Monkeygate” Scandal

Ricky Ponting opens talk on Monkeygate issue

The infamous “Monkeygate” scandal took place during the India’s tour of Australia in 2008. This controversy made a strain in the relationship between the two countries. Ricky Ponting, who was the captain of the Australian team, has shared his experience in which he has confessed that the sequence of events which followed was the lowest point of his captaincy stint.

    Ponting confessed

“We all felt let down by the end result (of the the Monkeygate controversy). The fact that it got in the way of the way we played our cricket for the next Test match was probably the most disappointing thing,” Ponting told on the sky sports podcast.

“So we go over there and India at Perth is game we expect to win and then we lost the match and after that the next few days things just got worse and worse,” he went on to add.

“Monkeygate was probably the lowest (point in career as captain). Losing the 2005 Ashes series was tough but I was in full control of that. But I wasn’t in full control of what happened during the Monkeygate thing.”

“It was a low point and also because it dragged on for so long. I remember coming off the ground during the Adelaide Test match and speaking to Cricket Australia officials about the case because the hearing was at the end of the Adelaide Test match.”

The former Australian captain Ricky ponting states that he had cleared the remaining tension with Sachin Tendulkar, Harbhajan Singh and Anil Kumble during his IPL stint with the Mumbai Indians.

    “Monkeygate”- How it begins

The Australians were convinced the ‘Turbanator’ had taunted Symonds with the word “monkey”, a racially offensive insult.

Matthew Hayden let Harbhajan know what he thought of it. Australia skipper Ricky Ponting and Michael Clarke joined in as well. Umpire Mark Benson was alerted by the Australians of Harbhajan’s alleged racist remark, and the former has a word with the Indian. At the other end is an unperturbed Tendulkar, notching up another priceless century.

    Post Match Interview

At the post-match press conference, Kumble uttered the immortal words: “Only one team was playing in the spirit of the game, that’s all I can say.”

Australia’s boorish on-field behaviour, which had been drowned by unprecedented success over a decade, perhaps reared its ugliest head. Dailies across the country admonished their side. Their former players, too, pulled back no punches. Pacer Jeff Thomson’s views were probably the most scathing of them all.

“The Aussies act like morons and bullies and they can’t cop criticism from someone like myself,” the pace ace said. “I think it was appalling that none of the Australians went over and shook Anil Kumble’s hand at the end of the Sydney Test. They just played up and carried on like idiots like they normally do.”

England fast bowler Jofra Archer has again faced racial abuse and this time he received it on social media platform Instagram. The bowler on Tuesday condemned the act and called upon the authorities to take proper action.

The 24-year-old pacer posted a screenshot of the message he received on Instagram by a fan who is presumably an Indian (going by his username).Where Archer states he is not able to understand as to why someone would make such comments.

Archer shared a screenshot of one of the messages that he received during his recent live video. “Stupid what are your doing Blacky” and “Great Blacky” were the messages received by Archer on his Instagram DM.

“I given a lot of thought about reacting to this and I hope no one else has to deal with stuff like this on a regular basis, it isn’t ever acceptable and should be addressed properly in my opinion. I will never understand how people feel so freely to say these things to another human being it baffles me, read the Archer’s story.

This is not the first time that Archer has been exposed to racial abuse. Last year, during a Test match against New Zealand, Archer was exposed to racial slurs from the crowd.

As a result, New Zealand Cricket (NZC) handed the fan a two-year ban from attending international and domestic matches in the country.

A 28-year-old man from Auckland had admitted abusing the pacer during the first Test against England after a police investigation and was issued a verbal warning for using insulting language.

Archer, who announced his arrival in international cricket during the ICC Cricket World Cup last year, went to make his Test debut in the subsequent Ashes series at home.

Originally from Barbados, the 24-year old right-arm fast bowler is currently recovering from a stress fracture in his elbow. For the same Archer was ruled out of IPL 2020 which has been postponed to April 15.

“As a result of the injury, he has been ruled out of England’s Test tour of Sri Lanka and the Indian Premier League 2020 season. He will now commence an injury rehabilitation programme with the ECB medical team with a view to be ready for the international summer campaign starting in June against West Indies in a three-match Test series,” the ECB had said in a statement last month.
