Pakistan’s trouble maker batsman Umar Akmal could face a lifetime ban if convicted of match-fixing charges unveiled Friday by Pakistan cricket authorities. Previously Umar Akmal handed a suspend order with immediate effect due to a pending anti-corruption investigation against the batsman.

“The Pakistan Cricket Board today suspended Umar Akmal with immediate effect…he cannot take part in any cricket-related activity pending the investigation being carried out by PCB’s Anti-Corruption Unit,” the Board said in a statement. “As this is an ongoing investigation, the PCB will not make any further comments,” it added.

    Reason behind the order

Pakistan Cricket Board said Umar violated its code on two counts.

“The PCB has charged Umar Akmal with two breaches of the anti-corruption code which relates to not reporting a fixing offer,” said a PCB release.

Under the PCB anti-corruption code a player is required to immediately report to a team manager or the officials of the anti-corruption unit when he receives an offer to fix a match.

Under the code if a player is found guilty the penalty ranges from a suspension of six months to a lifetime ban, the release adds.

The out break of corona virus makes organizers to postpone the scheduled sports events in order to avoid the spread. The cash-rich Indian Premier League faces the same fate. BCCI recently made an announcement regard the IPL execution after considering with IPL franchise. Considering the safety terms BCCI postponed the IPL to the mid of April and also hints that IPL could get cancelled if it crosses the deadline(April 20).

    Expected lose to BCCI

With all the speculation regarding the IPL, its governing council(BCCI) could lose a huge sum of money if the 2020 edition gets cancelled. However, the amount of loss of broadcast revenues seems like a huge amount. It is estimated that IPL will lose close to USD $500 million(Rs 3869.5 cr) if the season is cancelled. With cases increasing and no improvement in the situation, this seems quite likely to happen.

    Broadcasting rights for IPL 2020

Disney-owned Star India holds the broadcasting rights for the IPL. The company has both the television and the digital streaming rights for the league. It was estimated that the company will earn around $445 million. This amount also includes a deal with the UK broadcaster Sky.

Along with this, the central and title sponsorship deals which attract $81 million (INR 600 Crore) will also go out of the hands of the BCCI. Haris Thawani, the chairman of Neo Sports-owner Nimbus Communication, revealed his opinion on the matter to Business Today. According to him, most of the IPL teams will be insured if the 13th edition gets cancelled.

The BCCI and all its stakeholders are committed to providing a safe and healthy environment for everyone involved in our great sport and the nation.”

    BCCI’s final option

It looks like the BCCI finally made up its mind on going the distance to conduct the thirteenth edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL). While the experts comes out with possible six ways to host if IPL starts from April 15.
The report further stated that BCCI is planning to host the IPL in July-September if things do not improve in the coming days. The Future Tours Programme (FTP) for the year 2020 has little of consequence between the months of July and September barring the Asia Cup T20 in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) scheduled in September and England hosting Pakistan at home before playing Ireland in the white-ball format.
