Former Indian cricketer Yuvraj Singh has lamented the attitude of young Indian cricketers towards four-day cricket and felt the lucrative IPL contracts have affected their focus.
“IPL offers big money and it takes away the focus (from the youngsters),” Yuvraj Singh said in an interview to a magazine.
“From the interaction with the youngsters, you realise that they can do with more respect for the seniors,” Yuvraj added. “It is not the same that we gave to our seniors. There has to be a certain amount of respect towards the seniors, who have taught you so much,” he added.
Yuvraj Singh revealed he speaks with Rishabh Pant sometimes who is going through a rough patch and felt it was important for him to learn quickly.
“Coaches and seniors have to be in touch with them constantly and tell them there are certain things they can’t do on and off the field,” the 38-year-old said about Pant and Prithvi Shaw.
Yuvraj Singh on Indian team captains
Post his retirement from international cricket last year, Yuvraj captained Toronto Nationals in the second season of the Global T20 League 2019 and represented Maratha Arabians in the Abu Dhabi T10 League.
The 38-year old also traveled to Australia to take part in the Bushfire relief match in addition to playing for India Legends in the Road Safety World Series.
Opening up on the captain he has played under, Yuvraj lamented the lack of support in the second half of his career under the likes of former India captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni and current India captain Virat Kohli.
“I have played under Sourav [Ganguly] and had a lot of support from him. Then Mahi [MS Dhoni] took over. It’s a difficult choice to make between Sourav and Mahi. I have more memories of time under Sourav because of the support he gave me. I didn’t have that kind of support from Mahi and Virat [Kohli],” Yuvraj said.
Former India opener Gautam Gambhir on Thursday lashed out at those only celebrating M.S. Dhoni’s six to win the 2011 World Cup, saying it was won by the entire team and not just one hit. India lifted the World Cup on this day(April 2) nine years ago.
Gambhir regards 2011 World cup winning
“Dhoni finishes off in style. A magnificent strike into the crowd! India lift the World Cup after 28 years!” these were Ravi Shastri’s words after Dhoni led India to a win in the 2011 World Cup final at the Wankhede Stadium with a humongous six off Sri Lanka pacer Nuwan Kulasekara.
With that six, Dhoni had fulfilled the long-cherished dreams of batting legend Sachin Tendulkar, who had all the batting records to his name in international cricket except his hands at the World Cup trophy. The Master Blaster had waited 22 years to lift the trophy and on April 2, 2011, his dream was finally fulfilled.
Gautam Gambhir’s reply
ESPNCricinfo, therefore, tweeted “the shot that sent millions of Indians into jubilation” with a photo of the moment.
Gambhir, in his reply, said: “Just a reminder @ESPNcricinfo: #worldcup2011 was won by entire India, entire Indian team & all support staff. High time you hit your obsession for a SIX.” The stylish left-hander had scored 97 while Dhoni, who had promoted himself to No 4, smashed an unbeaten 91 as India won by six wickets.
He has already released Rs one crore out of his MP Local Area Development Scheme (MPLADS) Fund towards the relief efforts amid the coronavirus outbreak.
With the out break of corona virus the scheduled Indian Premier League has been postponed by BCCI. The cash rich tournament has been planned to kick start from March 29 with an opening match between defending champions Mumbai Indians versus Chennai Super Kings.
CSK skipper MS Dhoni
Chennai Super Kings franchises open their training camp much earlier than other franchises. Chennai Super Kings skipper MS Dhoni reached Chennai on March 1st and starts his practice. Indian former skipper MS Dhoni has been last seen in world cup 2019 semi finals, where India lost to New Zealand.
Dhoni made him self unavailable for international matches after that and hits the media when his name eventually dropped from BCCI list of contract players. BCCI officials confirms that Dhoni would get his slot back if he performs well in the 13th edition of IPL.
Young Tamil Nadu spinner R Sai Kishore on Thursday recalled his “invaluable” learnings from the likes of M S Dhoni at the Chennai Super Kings’ preparatory camp before it was abruptly called off due to the fast-spreading COVID-19 pandemic.
The 23-year old left-arm spinner, who was picked up by three-time IPL champion CSK for Rs 20 lakh in the auction held in December, said he had gained a lot of confidence by being part of the camp, which started on March 2 and was suspended on March 13.
“The training camp was outstanding. The pace was slowly picking up with couple of matches slated to be played (among the CSK players). Personally gave me a lots of confidence and an outlook as to what to expect and ways to fine tune preparation,” Sai Kishore, 23, told PTI.
An impressive performance in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy national T20 tournament brought him to the fore and he was snapped up by the Dhoni-led CSK.
Sai Kishore, who had been a net bowler for CSK during the previous IPL, said he interacted with the big names in the team which he got a “response in simple words.”
“I interacted (with the likes of Dhoni and the others) during the last day of the camp before we departed and the response I got was in simple words was very beneficial,” he added.
The lanky left-arm tweaker, who was looking to make his maiden IPL appearance after being roped in by CSK, said though the postponement of the league was unexpected owing to the coronavirus pandemic, it provided him enough time to fine-tune his skills.
“Regarding the postponement there is no real thought. I feel the void. Survival is the priority in the jungle so can’t really feel bad. On the brighter side it gives me enough time to fine-tune the skill which needs some tinkering,” Kishore, who has been busy with a wedding in the family said.
Sai Kishore about Dhoni
Sai Kishore’s fellow CSK player N Jagadeesan said though confined to home due to the lockdown, he was training and also playing some cricket.
“I just keep doing my own training and stay at home. Being with parents, it is something that we don’t actually get when we are on the road. At the same time I’m making sure that I keep doing my training my stuff…” he told PTI.
Asked about the IPL being postponed, Jagadeesan said it was the best decision considering what was happening.
“IPL is postponed…but it is also for the well-being of everyone, postponing was best decision. Everybody is going to miss IPL till it is going to start, at the same time it is important that we care about our health,” the Coimbatore-based player, who is yet to make his IPL debut, said.
About the CSK camp, he said it was a good experience.
“Camp was pretty good and we are meeting after a year. I attended the camp in between playing the (TNCA) league matches,” Jagadeesan, a regular in the Tamil Nadu Ranji Trophy side, added.
Due to the out break of corona virus the scheduled events has been postponed without an option. The fate extend to the scheduled sports events including cash rich Indian Premier League. Cricketers lock them self down without an option left and gets in to social media to spend their time.
Cricketers in Social media
Without cricket, players starts to entertain their fans in social media. Previously former England skipper Kevin Pietersen trolled Indian spinner Yuzvendra Chahal, for his bowling. The incident took place when Pietersen was doing an Instagram live with batsman Rohit Sharma. Chahal posted a comment on the chat, saying, “KP, you are my first test wicket”.
Former India opening batsman Wasim Jaffer, former Australia spinner Brad Hogg opens talk on MS Dhoni’s return. New Zealand fast bowler Mitchell McClenaghan shares few words on MS Dhoni and Rohit Sharma. India Women’s captain Harmanpreet Kaur reveals her favourite IPL team. Many cricketers starts to express their opinion across facets of the game in one way or the other.
Rohit Sharma trolls Rishabh Pant
India limited-overs vice-captain Rohit Sharma, who was recently seen in an Instagram live session with spinner Yuzvendra Chahal and former England captain Kevin Pietersen, interacted with India fast bowler Jasprit Bumrah on the same platform.
The conversation became amusing when Bumrah read out a comment from wicket-keeper batsman Rishabh Pant who challenged Sharma for a six-hitting challenge.
Upon hearing Bumrah say the same, a “confident” Sharma didn’t even appear to consider Pant for a six-hitting challenge. “Saala ek saal hua nahin usko cricket khel ke, chakke ka competition lagayega [He has only played for a year but wants to engage in a six-hitting challenge],” Sharma said jokingly.
Both Sharma, Bumrah and Pant last played for India in the recently concluded tour of New Zealand.
On this day in 2005, the then India opening batsman Virender Sehwag and vice-captain Rahul Dravid scored individual ODI centuries to put India in a commanding position in the first ODI of Pakistan’s tour of India in 2005 in Kochi.
87 run difference
India won the toss and opt to bat, where India scored 281 runs for eight wicket loss. With a target of 282 team Pakistan get to bat but failed to chase the target. Pakistan end up by scoring 194 and lost to India with a difference of 87 runs.
What formed the basis of a clinical 87-run victory other than these two batsmen sharing a 201-run stand for the third wicket was Master Blaster Sachin Tendulkar registering his second ODI five-wicket haul in the second innings.
After the then India captain Sourav Ganguly won the toss and chose to bat, India scored 281/8 in their allotted quota of 50 overs. Sehwag and Dravid played the rescue act after the hosts lost opening batsman Tendulkar (4) and Ganguly (0) cheaply.
Despite India losing two wickets on consecutive deliveries, Sehwag remained unperturbed as he brought a 55-ball half-century. With Dravid taking his time at the other end, Sehwag seemed to have made it a point to accumulate runs at a brisk pace.
Individual Centuries
While both Sehwag and Dravid completed their half-centuries in consecutive overs, Sehwag reached the three-figure mark for the seventh time in ODIs way before Dravid. It was on the first delivery of the 32nd over that Sehwag ran a single off Pakistan pacer Rana Naved-ul-Hasan to register a century.
Pakistan all-rounder Abdul Razzaq broke the partnership after he dismissed Sehwag on 108 (95) with the help of nine fours and three sixes. Dravid, who completed his century in the 45th over, ended up scoring 104 (139) with the help of six fours.
Having registered bowling figures of 10-1-50-5, Tendulkar played a crucial role in bundling out Pakistan for 194 in 45.2 overs. Running through their middle-order, Tendulkar didn’t allow the likes of Mohammad Hafeez (42) and captain Inzamam-ul-Haq (37) to capitalize on their starts.
With cricket not happening at any level in the wake of the novel COVID-19, most of the cricketers are taking to their respective social media handles to engage with fans in times when they don’t have much else to do.

Earlier former England skipper Kevin Pietersen trolled Indian spinner Yuzvendra Chahal, for his bowling. The incident took place when Pietersen was doing an Instagram live with batsman Rohit Sharma. Chahal posted a comment on the chat, saying, “KP, you are my first test wicket”.
Pietersen, who seemed to be in a jolly mood, asked Shehzad reasons behind his shambolic form in PSL 2020. “Well, I have tried my best in this IPL [PSL]. I have been working really hard. Sometimes you know as a cricketer you are trying everything but it’s not coming. You cannot help it. You still have to believe in yourself whenever you go,” Shehzad said during the Instagram live session.
Kevin Pietersen hilarious reply to Ahmed Shehzad
Upon hearing a formal answer from the 28-year old player, Pietersen laid emphasis on him being a “buddy” and not a “journalist”. Catering to Pietersen’s need of hearing a clear answer, Shehzad pointed out how him batting at No. 3 for Quetta Gladiators didn’t work in his favour.
“You want a clear answer? I was playing [at] No.3 and I tried but it was not helping me. It was my first time that I played the entire tournament at No.3. I never complained. I was doing my best, I tried my best but it was not coming,” Shehzad answered.
Continuing on pulling Shehzad’s leg, Pietersen joked how he doesn’t want to bat anywhere other than opening the batting and that the same will see him “carry drinks” in the near future.
“So you don’t wanna bat No.1, you can’t bat two, you can’t bat three, you can’t bat four, you can’t bat five. I think you must go and bat at 13. Go and bat 13 for Quetta Gladiators next season No.13 for the third team, not even for the first team. You are gonna carry drinks,” Pietersen lambasted Shehzad.
In seven matches for Gladiators this year, Shehzad scored 61 runs at a paltry average and strike rate of 8.71 and 95.31 respectively.

On this day in 2011(April 2) the final World Cup match was played between India and Sri Lanka at the Wankhede Stadium, in Mumbai. India won the Cricket World Cup by defeating Sri Lanka by 6 wickets. India lifts their second ICC Cricket World Cup after 28 years. The final had a viewership of about 67 million people all over the world.
Sri Lankan Batting
Sri Lanka captain Kumar Sangakkara won the toss and opted to bat, the visitors posted 274/6 in 50 overs on the back of former captain Mahela Jayawardene’s 14th ODI century. Coming in to bat at No. 4 in the 17th over, Jayawardene top-scored for his team with 103* (88) with the help of 13 fours.
With bowling figures of 10-0-49-2, India all-rounder Yuvraj Singh was the pick of their bowlers. Pacer Zaheer Khan (India’s highest wicket-taker in the tournament), who bowled three consecutive maiden overs with the new ball, had also dismissed two batsmen.
India’s batting
In reply, India lost their opener Virender Sehwag in the second ball of the innings. Sachin Tendulkar, too, got out in quick succession. The next set of batsmen, Gautam Gambhir and Virat Kohli added 83 runs in 15 overs before the latter got out in the 22nd over. India captain MS Dhoni, promoting himself up the order, joined Gambhir and they both added 109 runs, an Indian record in a World Cup final.
Gambhir got out for 97 runs in the 42nd over. India chased down the total and won the match by six wickets in the 49th over. Dhoni was declared the “man of the match” for scoring 91 runs(with the help of eight fours and two sixes). Where Yuvraj Singh was awarded the “Man of the Tournament”.
Post Winning
This was the second time in World Cup history where a host nation won the final and the first time to win on their home ground. Virat Kohli said, “he has carried the burden of the nation for 21 years. It is time we carried him on our shoulders. “Gautam Gambhir dedicated the victory to the victims of the 26/11 Mumbai attacks, and to the soldiers guarding India’s borders
As said cricket is a gentle man game India Pakistan players once again proved it. Not in the game but in the real life where Indian player Harbhajan Singh praised Pakistan former cricketer Shahid Afridi on twitter. Afridi post a pic of helping peoples amid of lock down due to corona virus.
The deadly corona virus has been spread world wide in a rapid speed thus every government advice peoples to stay behind doors in order to maintain self quarantine.
Afridi helps people amid corona virus
Due to this, many peoples suffer without food and basic needs. Considering that many helps to feed the poor, in that line Pakistan player Shahid Afridi helps Pakistan peoples with basic needs.
Indian Cricketers Backed up
Indian cricketers Yuvraj Singh and Harbhajan Singh have unleashed a social media storm by backing former Pakistan captain Shahid Afridi’s foundation in its fight against the coronavirus pandemic. The two countries are bitter rivals and the move touched a raw nerve in India. Afridi’s appeal for donations to help people affected by the deadly virus in Pakistan has had overwhelming support from leading cricketers. Harbhajan urged people to contribute in a video message, and called on other cricketers in the two countries to make similar appeals.
“These are testing times, it’s time to look out for each other,” Yuvraj wrote on Twitter in a call for funds.
While Afridi thanked the two, Indian Twitter users reacted with fury at the support for a rival player.
“Do you have any sense?” wrote one Twitter user. “Lost respect” for Harbhajan Singh, added another. “Sorry guys you lost it.”
India and Pakistan have not played a bilateral cricket series since 2012-2013.
World Cup-winning batsman Yuvraj, who made a return from cancer before finally retiring last year, has also raised money to fight coronavirus through his ‘YouWeCan’ foundation.
India, which has been under a 21-day lockdown since March 24, has so far confirmed more than 1,600 coronavirus cases and 38 deaths.
The 29-year-old England wicketkeeper-batsman Jos Buttler played a key role in England’s thrilling defeat of New Zealand at Lord’s in July. Buttler broke the stumps to run out Martin Guptill and seal a super-over win over New Zealand as England won the men’s World Cup for the first time. He has put the shirt on eBay to support two specialist heart and lung centres dealing with the coronavirus response.
The highest bid was over £65,000 on Wednesday morning. The shirt will be signed by all the players from the England World Cup squad.

“As we all know, hospitals, doctors, nurses and the NHS are all doing quite an incredible job at the moment,” Buttler said.
“And in the weeks and months to come they are going to need our support even more.
“Last week, the Royal Brompton and Harefield hospitals’ charity launched an emergency appeal to provide lifesaving equipment for those two hospitals, specialising in lung and heart conditions in preparation for the COVID-19 outbreak.
The light-blue coloured full sleeves jersey, which Buttler wore during the summit clash at the Lord’s where England defeated New Zealand in dramatic fashion to lift their maiden ODI World Cup trophy, is signed by all members of the squad.
“To help with their fundraising effort I’m going to be donating this shirt, which is the shirt I wore in the World Cup final last year, signed by all the players who were members of the squad.”
Buttler also tagged a number of cricketers across the world including India skipper Virat Kohli and vice-captain Rohit Sharma, Australian Steve Smith and teammate Eoin Morgan, to spread the message.
In the UK, more than 25,000 people, including Prime Minister Boris Johnson and Prince Charles, have been infected and over 1,800 deaths reported.
Sachin Ramesh Tendulkar (born 24 April 1973) is an Indian former international cricketer and a former captain of the Indian national team. He is widely regarded as one of the greatest batsmen in the history of cricket. He is the highest run scorer of all time in International cricket.

Tendulkar’s best with Ball
During the first match of the Pepsi Triangular Series between India and Australia in Kochi, Master Blaster Sachin Tendulkar registered his career-best bowling figures of 10-1-32-5 to win the match for India with the ball in hand.
Chasing a formidable 310-run target in 49 overs, Australia were cruising along until Tendulkar put a halt to a 60-run partnership between Australia all-rounder Michael Bevan and captain Steve Waugh (26).
With Australia needing 107 runs in 111 deliveries at this point in time, it was expected of them to seal the chase. Having said that, Tendulkar’s maiden ODI five-wicket haul restricted the visitors to 268/10 in 45.5 overs.
Darren Lehmann (8), who came in as Steve Waugh’s replacement, couldn’t last long either as he was found wanting in front of the stumps against Tendulkar’s off-spin.
On the last delivery of the 40th over, Tendulkar deceived Bevan (65) by bowling down the leg-side when the southpaw was stepping out of his crease. Apart from stumping Bevan with his swift hands, India wicket-keeper Nayan Mongia treated Tom Moody (23) in the same manner in Tendulkar’s following over.
Australia’s hopes of starting the series on a winning note came to an end when their last recognized batsman in Damien Martyn (2) was caught by India pacer Javagal Srinath off Tendulkar in the 44th over. The dismissal also welcomed Tendulkar to the list of bowlers with ODI five-wicket hauls.
Earlier, it was India captain Mohammad Azharuddin who won the toss and chose to bat at the Nehru Stadium. Coming in to bat at No. 5 in the 14th over, India batsman Ajay Jadeja top-scored for his team with 105 * (109) with the help of 12 fours. Other than Jadeja, Azharuddin (82) and Hrishikesh Kanitkar (57) scored individual half-centuries.
Due to the out break of corona virus the scheduled events has been paused and in oscillation for it’s execution. Earlier ICC announced to postpone the T20 world cup that scheduled to play later this year in Australia.
The cash rich Indian Premier League has been postponed to April 15 previously but the execution remains doubtful as Indian government imposed 21 day lock down in order to control the corona virus spread.
Indian Premier League franchise Rajasthan Royals owner Manoj Badale has hinted at the possibility of a “shorter” IPL 2020 in the wake of COVID-19 pandemic.
“We have a number of calls as owners with the BCCI to talk about what those plans might be, but it is clearly going to be postponed and it is unclear at this stage whether or not it takes place later this year.
“The cricket calendar is so packed. There are very few gaps especially for a seven-week tournament, so I suspect even if a gap can be found, it would have to be a shorter tournament,” Badale was quoted as saying by BBC Worldservice.
During the conversation, Badale also threw light on a potential challenge involving many stakeholders in the government and overseas cricket boards if the IPL gets played later in the year.
“And the uniqueness of the IPL is it gets the very, very best around the world so it is not just a collaboration between the BCCI, the owners and the Indian government, you need the collaboration of the other cricket boards as well.
“Because what makes the IPL special is the presence of not just the Kohlis and the Dhonis, but also the Stokeses and the Warners and the Butlers,” Badale said.
Rajasthan Royals owner hints at shorter IPL 2020
With some countries sealing international borders, participation of overseas players will be another challenge in front of the BCCI. Being asked about the same, Badale opined on having an IPL with Indian players than not having the tournament at all.
“If it was a choice of no IPL or a domestic player-only IPL I would choose the latter. I think we will have some form of tournament this year. It will probably be a shortened tournament.
As long as people are prepared to be creative and as long as boards are prepared to work together collaboratively, it [IPL] is hugely important to the game of cricket. It is not just of importance to the Indians that the IPL takes place,” the RR owner added.

Touching upon the vital financial aspect of cricket’s biggest T20 league, Badale reflected on how the cancellation of the tournament will affect numerous people adversely which will include all of the players, organisers and the broadcasters.
“It is important for the whole game. It is economically [important] for some of the best players in the world. It is economically meaningful for the event organisers and for the broadcasters that participate.
“So, the trickle down effect of a tournament as big as the IPL not taking place in terms of its impact on more than just the players but [also] all the people whose livelihoods depend on it is pretty significant. So we have a responsibility to try and a find a way of playing it if we possibly can,” Badale concluded.
Yuvraj Singh (born 12 December 1981) is a former Indian cricketer who played in all forms of the game. An all-rounder who bats left-handed in the middle order and bowls slow left-arm orthodox.
Yuvraj had a dream run at the 2011 ICC Cricket World Cup, where he scored 362 runs including one century and four fifties, took 15 wickets, won four Man of the Match awards.
On 10 June 2019, Yuvraj Singh announced his retirement from international cricket. Yuvraj Singh held a press conference in Mumbai where he announced his decision to retire from all formats of the game. He said that he had decided to “Move On”. Yuvraj recounted his best memories through his career, while also recalling his worst.
Yuvraj on Corona out break
Former India all-rounder Yuvraj Singh believes that the outbreak of a “pandemic” in the novel COVID-19 has its advantages and disadvantages and that people should visit health-related websites to understand the disease in the best possible manner.
“I think this has its advantages and disadvantages. It’s heartbreaking to see so many people dying all over the world. It is spreading so fast. People, rather than panicking, should visit the official health sites [WHO and Union Health Ministry[ to really understand what the disease is,” Yuvraj was quoted as saying by Sportstar.
“If we’re going to win this fight then each of us needs to support the government’s efforts.”
Yuvraj, who made his ODI debut under Ganguly in 2000, went on to play 110 ODIs under the current BCCI President. Yuvraj scored 2,640 ODI runs at an average of 30.69 and a strike rate of 86.47 under Ganguly.
As far as playing under Dhoni is concerned, Yuvraj scored 3,077 runs in 104 ODIs at an average of 36.20 and a strike rate of 88.21 including six centuries and 21 half-centuries.
Yuvraj, who played only 11 ODIs under Kohli, scored 372 runs at an average of 41.33 and a strike rate of 98.67 including a career-best 150 (127) against England in 2017.
As far as T20Is are concerned, 55 out of Yuvraj 58 T20Is came under Dhoni with the remaining three coming under Kohli in 2017.
