Pakistan Cricket Board on Friday sacked national women’s team head coach Iqbal Imam but retained Bismah Maroof as captain for the 2020-21 season.

The board also announced enhanced central contracts for nine women cricketers and also a nine-player emerging category.

The board said it had made a 33 percent enhancement in the Category A contracts and given 30 and 25 percent raises in the B and C Categories as well.

It said that as part of promoting women’s cricket and incentivising aspiring cricketers, it had also enhanced match fee and prize money for domestic events by 100 percent, domestic daily allowance raised by 50 percent.

In a continuation to last year, the Pakistan national women’s team will travel business class on all flights longer than five hours.

The board’s newly introduced emerging players list includes 16-year-old Syeda Aroob Shah, 15-year-old Ayesha Naseem, 22-year-old Muneeba Ali Siddiqui, Fatima Sana, Kainat Hafeez, Najiha Alvi, Rameen Shamim, Saba Nazir and Sadia Iqbal.

The main central contracts list includes Bismah Maroof and Javeria Khan in category A, Aliya Riaz, Diana Baig and Sidra Nawaz in B category and Anam Amin, Nahida Khan, Nida Dar and Omaima Sohail in C category.

Chief selector Urooj Mumtaz said the international performances over the past 12 months, fitness standards and the players’ ability to contribute in both white-ball formats were key measures that formed the criteria for the selection.

Bismah Maroof Disappointed Over ICC’s Decision

As reported earlier, Pakistan and India are the teams that have to share points as the sides failed to play a bilateral series against each other. Which made the Indian women’s cricket team to qualify for the ODI World Cup 2021 by virtue of being the top four.

Replying to that the 28 year old Bismah Maroof pointed out that after a review and understanding of the decision, the legal team may consider going to ICC if it seems necessary.

In a video conference Maroof was heard saying that the verdict was disappointing. She explained that the Pakistani group had been waiting a long time to play alongside India.

She reveals that the Pakistani Board was working on it but it failed to get any response from the Indian side. The video conference was arranged by PCB. It has to be noted that in light of numerous terrorist attacks and mischiefs on the border, the Indian government has thrown any idea of having a sporting relation with Pakistan off the table.

Rohit Sharma reveals Shikhar Dhawan singing during match

Team India limited-overs vice-captain Rohit Sharma recalled the memory of his opening partner Shikhar Dhawan started singing a song during a match against Bangladesh. Rohit and Dhawan share great friendship and understanding both on and off the field and the camaraderie between the two has always been praised by others

On Friday, BCCI shared a trailer of Mayank Agarwal chat show’s Episode 2 of ‘Open nets with Mayank‘, where Rohit and Dhawan were having a fun conversation with India’s Test opener. In the video, Rohit shared an incident where Dhawan started singing in the middle of a match.

Shikhar Dhawan Started Singing During a Match

“We were playing in Bangladesh in 2015 as I was standing in the first slip and Shikhar was in third slip. Suddenly he started singing very loudly. The bowler was already in his run up and the batsman, Tamim Iqbal, was left amazed. He didn’t understand where the noise was coming from,” Rohit told India Test opener Mayank as Dhawan was in splits.

“It might not sound as funny right now but when it happened on the field we couldn’t control our laughter, it was really funny,” Rohit added.

Dhawan went on to say that his sense of humour is very spontaneous.

“When Jatt ji and Hitman are in conversation, expect nothing less than entertainment,” BCCI’s tweet read along with the video clip. The full video will come out soon, the tweet said.

Since catching the eye as an opening pair during India’s victorious 2013 ICC Champions Trophy campaign, Dhawan and Rohit have broken many records together and have been one of India’s most successful opening combinations in white-ball cricket after the legendary pair of Sourav Ganguly and Sachin Tendulkar.

Report : Pakistan Cricket Board Reverses Decision of Terminating Contracts of 55 Employees

The Pakistan Cricket Board has reversed its decision to terminate contracts of its 55 employees with chief executive Wasim Khan admitting that communication needs to be better on the part of the parent body.

The PCB came under fire on Thursday when 10 employees posted at Karachi’s National Stadium were served termination notices, most of them lower rung staff, being paid modest salaries.

Critics questioned the decision in existing circumstances when the COVID-19 pandemic had hit the economy hard. The other criticism was that while firing lower rung employees, the board was spending millions on hirings in senior positions.

PCB Reverses Decision of Terminating Contracts of it’s Employees :

On Friday, the board reversed its decision with CEO Khan admitting that they need to have a rethink on lay-offs.

He said in a statement: “Making changes is about timing and on reflection, the process and communication needed to be better. As a responsible organisation, we have reviewed our decision and acted quickly to withdraw the notices.”

Khan, however, added that PCB is over-staffed and it might not be sustainable in the long-term.

“The PCB will make necessary decisions in due course,” he added.

The PCB has possibly the largest setup among the cricket boards of the world as far as its staff strength is concerned.

Almost every chairman had made appointments to oblige friends and relatives and the staff strength is said to be approximately 800.

In recent months, the board has already released some 260 employees mostly ground staff after it changed the domestic cricket structure, doing away with the regional cricket associations.

These 260 employees including groundsmen, curators besides office clerks were working and getting some portion of their monthly salaries from the PCB besides their respective regions.

Earlier Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) chairman Ehsan Mani has provided an update on the probable future of the Asia Cup amid coronavirus outbreak across the globe.

England Plan to Host Pakistan and Australia as Planned Before COVID-19 Pandemic

England plan to host Pakistan and Australia matches as planned

Resuming international cricket amidst COVID-19 scare demands guts on the part of all facets involved in the resumption. The same was highlighted by England Cricket Board Director of Special Projects Steve Elworthy in a recent interaction with Sky Sports Cricket.

“It’s an incredibly challenging but, at the same time, very rewarding project. What we are trying to achieve here is something that has never been done before,” Elworthy was quoted as saying on Sky Sports Cricket Podcast’s The Cricket Show.

Elworthy was obviously referring to the efforts around England hosting West Indies for a three-match Test series. Following a government directive which seems to be almost confirmed, England will host West Indies from July 8 to become the first country to host international cricket amidst the global crisis.

While spectators are highly unlikely to be allowed during these matches, Elworthy has expressed confidence in conducting them under “safe and secure” environment.

“We’re very confident and comfortable with the fact we’ve got a plan in place to deliver these bio-secure matches behind closed doors – in the most safe and secure way,” he said.

England plan to host Pakistan and Australia

There is no denying to the fact that the pandemic happening right before the English summer has affected their plans in more ways than one. Other than West Indies, England were also scheduled to host Pakistan, Australia and Ireland this summer.

Further speaking on the upcoming fixtures, Elworthy revealed that ECB (England Cricket Board) are in constant talks with PCB (Pakistan Cricket Board), CA (Cricket Australia) and CI (Cricket Ireland) to put their best foot forward to conduct all matches as planned.

“There has been a huge amount of work done. The West Indies are the first team to arrive here but, at the same time, we hope to have Australia, Pakistan and Ireland come this summer.

“We have been speaking to them, we’ve been in weekly communication with all of them but, in this particular case, more extensively with the West Indies because their Test matches are about five weeks away,” Elworthy added.

While Pakistan are expected to tour England for three Tests and three T20Is, Australia are expected to play six white-ball matches. It will as late as September when Ireland are slated to play three ODIs in England.

“I believe in the dignity of life and respect each individual without exception,” he said.

Virender Sehwag One of The Most Destructive Openers in Test History: VVS Laxman

Batting legend VVS Laxman has paid rich tributes to his former India teammate Virender Sehwag for his infectious positivity.

Sehwag, is widely regarded as someone who redefined the role of a Test opener maintaining his attacking style unchanged across formats. In 104 Tests, 251 ODIs and 19 T20Is in which he scored 8586, 8273 and 394 runs respectively.

Most Destructive Openers in Test History

Despite the criticism that came his way because of his care-free approach towards batting, Sehwag established himself as one of the greatest India batsmen as he became the first ever from his country to register a triple century in Test cricket.

“Cocking a snook at those who questioned his pedigree against high-quality fast bowling, Virender Sehwag went on to establish himself as one of the most destructive openers in Test history. Viru’s immense self-belief and positivity was as mind-boggling as it was infectious,” Laxman tweeted on Friday.

Laxman has been paying tributes to teammates who influenced him immensely including Sachin Tendulkar, Rahul Dravid, Sourav Ganguly, Anil Kumble and Javagal Srinath.

Laxman called Dravid ‘the ultimate team man’

“The game’s most committed student, Rahul was the ultimate team man, responding to every challenge with complete dedication. Despite being in a position to say ‘no’, he not only kept wicket in white-ball cricket and opened the batting in Tests, but did so with utmost diligence,” he wrote.

For Tendulkar, Laxman said the legend stayed grounded despite his immense popularity and incredible achievements. “His trail-blazing career is the stuff legends are made of, but even more endearing is his commitment, passion & respect for the game that made him what he is. Staying grounded despite the adulation he received is a remarkable quality, one of the hallmarks of his greatness @sachin_rt,” he said.

The former Indian player Virender Sehwag says that it would be difficult for MS Dhoni to make a way back to Indian International squad.

WATCH : Sachin Tendulkar Once Threaten Ganguly that he Would “Send Ganguly Back Home and End His Career”

Vikrant Gupta states that Sachin Tendulkar once warned Ganguly

Vikrant Gupta in a you tube video for SportsTak states that Indian former cricketer Sachin Tendulkar once threaten Sourav Ganguly that he would end Ganguly’s carrier. Sachin took over captain’s role in 1996 and lead India in 25 test match and 73 ODI matches. Tendulkar steps down as captain after a 0–2 margin lose at home against South Africa and Sourav Ganguly took over as captain in 2000.

‘Sachin Tendulkar threatened Sourav Ganguly to send him back home and end his career’

Sachin Tendulkar led Team India to 98 matches across formats. His dismal captaincy record saw the national team clinch 27 wins and 52 losses. He could only win 28 percent of his matches as a captain. But the Barbados Test thrashing in 1997 was the ‘worst loss’ of them all.

India were set a target of 120 runs to chase by the West Indies, and when umpires called it a day on Day 3, the visiting side were at 2/0. Tendulkar was confident of a win and that night, he told a restaurant owner to keep a champagne ready for their party after the victory.

However, on a rough track, where Indian batsmen failed to play responsibly and the greats Curtly Ambrose and Ian Bishop were on top of their games, the Tendulkar-led side were bundled out for 81 runs.

This is how the situation unfolded in the dressing room as narrated by Aaj Tak Sports Editor Vikrant Gupta:

“Sachin also gave a lesson to all the players in the dressing room, doubting himself on his abilities after the two-Test series. Sourav Ganguly, who was new to the team went up to console the skipper. When he walked up to Sachin, the then captain told him to get ready for the next day’s morning run. Ganguly did not turn up for it and that is when Sachin threatened him that he will send him back home and end his career,” Vikrant Gupta said on a YouTube video for SportsTak.

After that day, Ganguly worked hard and made sure he never gives Tendulkar a chance to thrash him.

“Don’t give Virat Kohli and MS Dhoni oxygen” : Former Australian cricketer Dean Jones

    0
Dean Jones on Virat Kohli and MS Dhoni

Dean Jones, the former Australian cricketer, reckons that the Aussies don’t prefer to sledge batsmen of the calibre of Virat Kohli and MS Dhoni. The veteran feels that trying to get under their skins can backfire severely and ‘confrontation’ is something they like. Even as Dhoni prefers to stay calm, Virat is vocal and never shies away from expressing his feelings on the field of play.

During India’s tour of Australia in 2018-19, the hosts’ players didn’t try to agitate Virat, who was a tad aggressive in his approach. As per the 59-year-old Jones, who played 52 Tests and 164 ODIs for the national team, Australia curbed their instincts even against the likes of West Indies’ Sir Vivian Richards and New Zealand’s Late Martin Crowe.

Don’t give Virat Kohli and MS Dhoni oxygen

“I’ll tell you the reason why they went quiet on Virat. Because we went quiet when Viv Richards came out to bat. We went quiet on Javed Miandad, on Martin Crowe. And there is a reason behind that — You don’t upset the bear, you don’t upset Virat Kohli or MS Dhoni because this is what they like – a confrontation,” Jones was quoted as saying on Sportscreen’s YouTube page.

Earlier, this year, Michael Clarke, the 2015 World Cup-winning captain, said that Australia didn’t sledge Virat because their players were worried about contracts in the Indian Premier League (IPL). However, Jones thinks that the comments defy logic

The Victoria-born Jones said that since an IPL contract depends upon the coaching staff and the team managers, and hence, sledging Virat has no role to play in it.

“Don’t give them any oxygen. But I find this reason about not upsetting Virat because of IPL contracts a bit rubbish. Is Virat going to stop anyone from playing? That is down to the coaches and managers,” he added.

A number of Aussie players take part in the IPL. David Warner, the skipper of the Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH), is the leading run-scorers among the foreign players. He also won the team the title back in 2016.

Pat Cummins fetched a stunning INR 15.5 crores from the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) for the 2020 edition of the mega event. The likes of Glenn Maxwell, Kane Richardson and Aaron Finch also managed to secure lucrative contracts.

Sachin Tendulkar's Reply to Yuvraj Singh's Keep it Up Challenge

Sachin Tendulkar took the ‘keep it up’ challenge, started by Yuvraj Singh, to another level by asking the former India all-rounder to cook “Paranthe” for him. On Sunday, Yuvraj Singh posted a video on Instagram, bouncing a tennis ball off a rolling pin and challenged batting legend Sachin Tendulkar to do the same without breaking anything in the kitchen.

Instead of attempting the same, Sachin Tendulkar replied with another Instagram video, asking Yuvraj Singh to make “Paranthe” with the rolling pin instead of bouncing the ball.

“Yuvi paranthe kithe hai?” Tendulkar captioned the video on Instagram with a Face Savoring Food emoji.

“Yuvi, you have replied well of my challenge with a rolling pin in the kitchen. You make good paranthe with a rolling pin. Look, I have an empty plate, pickle and curd. Make nice paranthe for me,” Tendulkar can be heard saying in the video.

Earlier, Yuvraj had challenged Tendulkar to break his “record of 100 in the kitchen”.

“Master you have broken so many records on the field!! time to break my record of 100 in the kitchen ! Sorry couldn’t post full video cause it will be too long to count 100 paji back to you hope you don’t break other things in the kitchen @sachintendulkar,” Yuvraj captioned the video on Instagram.

Yuvraj started the trend of ‘keep it up’ challenge among Indian cricketers by posting a video of himself on Instagram where he kept bouncing the ball on the side of his bat.

He nominated Tendulkar, Rohit Sharma and Harbhajan Singh to take the challenge.

Tendulkar added his twist to the task by bouncing the ball repeatedly off his bat with a blindfold on and asked Yuvraj to ace the challenge in the same way.

Yuvraj admitted that he knew he was challenging the wrong legend. In reply to Sachin’s Instagram post, he said that he might need a week to complete this task.

“I knew I challenged the wrong legend ! This might take a week il try,” Yuvraj left a comment on Tendulkar’s post.

“When going to Pakistan, security was an issue” : Kumar Sangakkara Recalls 2009 Lahore Bus Attack

Kumar Sangakkara recalls 2009 Lahore bus attack

Former Sri Lankan Cricket team captain Kumar Sangakkara recalled the unforgettable incident that took place while touring Pakistan. The shootout incident by 12 gunmen on Sri Lanka cricket team took place on March 3rd 2009 in Lahore.

It was the third morning of another Test match. Shortly before 09:00 local time, just outside the Gaddafi Stadium where the 12 gunmen ambushed them.

Sangakkara recalled the entire episode while speaking in an interview to Sky Sports : “At the time, when going to Pakistan, security was an issue. We had written about our concerns on security, and were exploring insurance for players if something happened. So, we were refused politely, and we were told that they have done all the groundwork to ensure security, so we went.”

“We were having our usual banters on the bus, people talking about what you are going to do this evening. One of our fast bowlers said ‘wickets are so flat here, I am going to get a stress fracture or something. I hope a bomb goes off,  so we could go home’. And 20 seconds later, this happens,” Sangakkara revealed.

“Our team’s masseur at the time was in the front, we heard the gun shots, we thought they were firecrackers. He got up, and said ‘get down, they are shooting the bus’. Dilshan was also in front, I was more central. Mahela was right at the back, Murali was sitting right behind me so that he can annoy Thilan Samaraweera. I remember Tharanga Paranavitana, the opener, was in front.”

“All hell broke loose, we hid at the aisle of the bus, on top of each other, and then the shooting started. They shot the bus as many times they could, and threw grenades, and fired a rocket launcher. And for some reason, I don’t know why, we survived,” Sangakkara said.

The attack took place about 500m from the cricket ground, at Liberty Square

“Thilan was injured, I got hit on the shoulder with a lot of shrapnel. Ajantha Mendis was injured. Tharanga Paranavitana gets up bleeding from his chest and collapses saying he’s been shot. We hear ‘oohs and aahs’ from all around the bus. Paul Farbrace has an iron spike through his hand, so we get into the ground, which is 500m from there, very rudimentary security of course. Unfortunately, most of the security personnel guarding us, died and that was tragic.”

“They tried to shoot the bus driver, missed him by a couple of inches. He was the hero, we survived probably because he was left alive to drive us through that. Everyday he used to take four attempts to get through the narrow gate, but this time, he drove in straight into the ground. We get off. Tharanga Paranavitana, we thought had died for some reason, feels his back, and says, I dont have a hole in my back, so I think I am okay and walks off the park. Thilan is bleeding everywhere, he’s been shot very badly. He gets taken by ambulance to hospital. Ajantha Mendis and I were due to get in the next ambulance, but then they were shooting next to ambulance, so we decided we would stay here,” he further recalled.

“Being Sri Lanka Cricket team, there comes a joke from the other side, and a bit of laughter, and everyone started talking, chatting, joking. At no time, we felt sorry for ourselves. No one thought ‘why us’,” the former left-handed batsman signed off.

The power couple donated to the PM-Cares Fund, an initiative by Honourable Prime Minister Narendra Modi. They also gave away Rs 5 lakhs each to help the Mumbai Police Personnel in the situation of crisis.

With the IPL postponed indefinitely, Kohli is keeping himself busy with his wife and is often chatting with fellow cricketers via Instagram Live.

Earlier Anushka Sharma took to her Instagram handle to show us how she was trying her best to see that her husband does not miss the cricket field, during this lockdown. She is seen screaming at Kholi saying, “Aye Kohli, chowka mar na,” which when translated reads, Kohli hit a 4.
