Kings XI Punjab Co-Owner Points “THIS” As a Huge Problem Than IPL 2020 Title Sponsor

    0

Rather than conjecture on the IPL’s title sponsorship, Kings XI Punjab co-proprietor Ness Wadia says the emphasis must be on guaranteeing that not a single COVID-19 case is accounted for during the occasion, which according to him, is set to be the “best ever”.

In spite of the fact that the BCCI has not affirmed that Chinese mobile phone maker Vivo has pulled out of title sponsorship for this season, it is likely that the organization will retreat from the Rs 440 crore for every year contract, in any event, this season gave the taking off China -India diplomatic tensions.

“There is much speculation going on. I think it is ridiculous. The only thing we (team owners) know is that the IPL is happening. We are very concerned about the safety of the players and all others involved. Even if there is one case, the IPL could be doomed,” Wadia told PTI after the owners’ meeting on Wednesday evening.

Following the “violent face-off” between the Indian and Chinese soldiers in eastern Ladakh in June, Wadia had said that the IPL should gradually move away from Chinese sponsors.

Irrespective of Vivo’s future in the IPL, Wadia said there are enough sponsors to replace the Chinese company if such a need arises.

“I don’t know what the BCCI has decided on title sponsorship. All the team owners had a productive meeting and are on the same page to make IPL a success. We need to support the BCCI and will be meeting again soon,” he said.

In the current economic climate, Wadia expects the sponsors, whether the team or IPL, to negotiate hard.

“All the sponsors are going to negotiate hard but I will change my name if it is not the most-watched IPL ever. It will be the best ever IPL. You mark my words. Sponsors would be foolish not to be part of IPL this year.

“It would be a wrong commercial decision on their part to not be a part of the IPL. I truly believe that if I was a sponsor, I would jump right in.”

IPL to Play in BioSecure Environment:

The BCCI has sent an exhaustive 16-page SOP to teams for the smooth conduct of the tournament. It requires players, support staff, team officials, and owners to be part of a bio-secure environment.

Wadia himself has not decided on travelling to the UAE for the IPL but said safety can’t be compromised.

“We have to adjust and acclimatise to the (bio-secure) environment. One case could kill the IPL. Extraneous circumstances require ordinary people to do extraordinary things,” he added.

Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma Retain Top Two Spots in ICC ODI Rankings; Babar Azam at No. 3

ICC Men's ODI batting Ranking 2020

India captain Virat Kohli (871 points) and his deputy Rohit Sharma (855) continued to retain the top two positions in the ICC ODI rankings for batsmen, with Pakistan’s Babar Azam currently placed third. Among the bowlers, Jasprit Bumrah (719) held on to the No. 2 spot, marginally behind New Zealand’s Trent Boult (722).

There were movements for three Irishmen, who played a key role during their impressive chase of 329 against England on Tuesday. Ireland captain Andy Balbirnie, who struck 113, jumped four places to 42nd, while his deputy Paul Stirling climbed one spot to 26th after a 128-ball 142.

Rookie Curtis Campher’s impressive first series, which saw him score half-centuries both times he batted – 59 not out and 68 in the first and second matches – helped him make an entry into the batsmen’s list at the 191st position.

In the bowling chart, Ireland fast bowler Craig Young’s six wickets in the series lifted him 40 places to a career-best 89th position, while Mark Adair (up six places to 138th) and Josh Little (up 38 places to 146th) also made significant moves after Ireland’s stunning seven-wicket win that helped pull one back after conceding the three-match series to England.

England’s ODI captain Eoin Morgan, who also scored a century in the final match, gained one place to be ranked 22nd, while Jonny Bairstow moved up a slot to 13th position, thanks to his bruising 41-ball 82 in the second ODI.

Among the England bowlers, leg-spinner Adil Rashid advanced from 29th to 25th with five wickets in the series, while left-arm pacer David Willey’s eight wickets, including a haul of 5 for 30 in the opening match, not only won him the Player-of-the-Series award but also lifted him six places to the 51st position.

England’s series win got them 20 points in the World Cup Super League, which will see 13 teams vie for direct qualifying places in the next World Cup in India in 2023. Ireland are on ten points.

India and seven other top teams from the league will make it directly to the ten-team World Cup with the remaining two sides to be determined through a Qualifier.

Dr. Laila Das Explains The Serious Risk That UAE Will Face While Hosting IPL 2020

IPL 2020 set to played in UAE

The Indian Premier League’s trip to West Asia, if allowed by the Centre, is going to be fraught with such a high risk that the game, honestly, is not worth the candle. Or, so says a former scientific officer of the Sports Authority of India in its eastern Indian centre in Salt Lake City who was a cricketer herself when younger.

Dr. Laila Das asked if holding the tournament in the United Arab Emirates didn’t imply a huge risk, told that “Yes, quite obviously. Anyone knows it by now that one of the central features of the global fight against the coronavirus pandemic anywhere is the little matter of restrictions on human movement. The less we move around, the greater will be our chances of survival.”

“That explains all those shutdowns. But here we are, taking a whole lot of people there, hoping to get by. No matter what elaborate and expensive plans they decide on for player safety, the sheer fact that so many players, officials, umpires and support staff members will undertake a trip to a foreign land with the virus lurking about everywhere is a scary thing. And any bio-safe bubble is as bad as its weakest link. The slightest of slip-ups can presage disaster.”

“Just because England have got away with it during their recent in-camera series against the West Indies doesn’t mean it can be practiced everywhere with a similar success quotient. There are risks in the airport lounge and even inside the aircraft.

Also, we’ve been alerted to the airborne doom the virus can be in addition to its tactile menace. I think they’re being hasty. We’ve to consider that our best players, including national captain Virat Kohli (in photo), will be there.”

The Board of Control for Cricket in India, of course, has devised its off-to-the-UAE project under economic compulsions, with the putting off of the Twenty20 World Cup salvaging the Indian tournament from unforeseen uncertainties.

She agreed that it was not as if the UAE was blissfully unaffected by the viral scourge. “It’s everywhere,” she said, adding: “The thing about those countries is that the workforce in them is mostly from southern Asia and it’s worst hit by the coronavirus.”

While IPL cricketers may not be exposed to the hoi polloi, the fact that the killer disease is around the corner cannot induce confidence.

Dr. Das was supportive of the SAI’s efforts to ease India’s medal-aspirants in other disciplines back into training. “The SAI is planning its programs astutely. It’s resourceful enough and its athletes are very safe wherever they are under strict restrictions on their everyday movement. There are risks all right: the use of the same gym equipment by several people in a place, swimmers splashing into the same pool. But the SAI has been sedate and steady, in contrast to cricket’s fast-forward ways.”

Ishant Sharma Explains Difference Between Playing Under MS Dhoni And Virat Kohli

    0
Ishant's experience on playing under Dhoni and Kohli

Ishant Sharma, who has been leading the bowling assault of the Indian test group for the last four-five years, clarified the contrast between playing under Mahendra Singh Dhoni and Virat Kohli.

Dhoni was the skipper when Ishant made his international debut in 2007. Under the former Indian captain, Ishant played in more than 130 matches. But it has been under Kohli that Ishant has come out to be a leader.

Explaining if the difference is because he has matured now or because of his role in the team, Ishant said, “It’s not that my role is any different now. When I played under Dhoni, we played a lot in India as compared to overseas, where you bowl more and can pick up more wickets.”

“Under Kohli, we have had more away tours. I have, in particular, played in very few home matches under Kohli. The only difference I see is that earlier I was very aggressive. So Dhoni would ask me to calm down. he would often say, “If you get a ban, who will bowl?”

Ishant Sharma Reveals How He Found Out Dhoni's coolness

“With Virat, it’s different. He says, “Just don’t get a ban. Other than that, do what you want to and I’ll take care of the rest!” There is really no major difference between them. The best thing about them is that they never made me feel insecure about my place in the team. This is a very important aspect of a team sport.”

He added, “I made my debut under Dhoni, who was part of a star-studded team and had an aura about himself too. I got comfortable talking to Dhoni only around 2012-13. Before that, I would talk to him on the ground but not much off the field.

“Virat and I have been playing together since childhood. We’ve shared rooms and meals in our early years. So I am comfortable talking to him. With Dhoni, that happened post-2012, and a lot changed after that.”

Ishant has been a piece of the Indian group for 12-13 years and has seen one lot of players leave and another join. He has played with Zaheer Khan, RP Singh, Irfan Pathan, Sreesanth, and Praveen Kumar in past. Furthermore, presently there are Shami, Bhuvneshwar Kumar, and Umesh Yadav which is likewise hailed as India’s best-ever quick bowling group.

Commenting on the difference, the 32-year-old said, “My communication is better with a current lot of pace bowlers. Communicating on the ground does not count as it is part of your work. Communication improves when you start talking off the field as it helps build trust.”

“When I came into the team, there were so many stars around that I used to be afraid of talking to them. It’s not like Zaheer Khan ever refused to share things with me. In fact, whatever I am today is because of Zaheer and what he taught me about reverse swing and bowling with the new ball. But with Zaheer, we never spoke about things off the field.”

Michael Vaughan Claims Naseem Shah – Shaheen Afridi Could be Next Waqar Younis – Wasim Akram

Naseem Shah Shaheen Afridi - Pakistan Cricketers

Pakistan’s young pacers Naseem Shah and Shaheen Afridi are the new Waqar Younis and Wasim Akram, as indicated by former England skipper Michael Vaughan.

Shaheen, 20, and Naseem, 17, have made great beginnings to their international carrier having played eight and four Tests individually. They’re set to be in real life together in helpful conditions in England in the three-Test series starting on Wednesday.

“I understand why Misbah wants to play two spinners against England. Whichever way it goes, you are still going to have Mohammad Abbas, Naseem Shah, and Shaheen Afridi,” Vaughan told Cricbuzz.

“They are high class. Particularly that young pair, we are probably talking about the new Wasim and Waqar in five years’ time, with the amount of cricket that they are going to play together.

    Michael Vaughan

“I was fortunate to see Naseem Shah make his debut and he is high class. He has got a wonderful action. Shaheen Afridi seems to be getting better and better. With the Dukes ball, Mohammad Abbas is going to move it and bring the batsman forward, which is exactly what you require.”

Pakistan coach Misbah-ul-Haq had hinted that Naseem will be a sure starter.

“Waqar Younis and I just saw him (Naseem Shah) in the Gaddafi Stadium and he just looked like a complete bowler and we decided that even though he hadn’t played first-class cricket he should go to Australia,” Misbah told reporters.

“By the time he arrived there he had played four games and taken 17 wickets. We could see the potential but now we’ve got the evidence at the international level; he’s already got a hat-trick and five-fers. He is one who could win a Test match on his own.”

Top 20 Highest Successful Run Chase in ODI Cricket Format

    0
Highest Run Chase in ODI format

In cricket chasing down a target of 300+ in ODI cricket format has become a casual thing for many teams in the modern cricket era. Years back setting a target of more than 250 seems to be a good target for a win.

As time changes chasing 400+ runs in ODI format has become a thing that can be achieved. Statistics tell us that the team batting second has won more than the team batting first while chasing a highest run target in ODI cricket format.

First Team to Score 300+ runs in ODI Cricket

On 7 June 1975 England became the first team to score 300 plus total as they scored 334/4 against India at Lord’s, the coincidently same day New Zealand also scored 309/5 against East Africa in Birmingham. And soon Australia and Pakistan also scored their first 300 plus total.

And India was the last team to score their first 300 plus total (at that time among Test-playing nations). India’s first 300 plus total (305/5) came in 1996 against Pakistan in Sharjah.

And since then India has scored most 300 plus total and in December 2017 they became the first team to score 300 plus total more than 100 times in ODIs. And here are the teams with the most 300 plus totals.

Highest Run Chase in ODI Cricket format

The highest run chase in ODI cricket format takes place when a team sets a massive run target while batting at first which then later chased down by the opponent team.

‘Cried Like a Child to Girlfriend, Didn’t Eat or Sleep’: Ishant Sharma on Being Hit By Faulkner for 30 Runs

    0
Faulkner hits 30 runs in a over from Ishant sharma

India pacer Ishant Sharma said the Mohali ODI against Australia in 2013 where James Faulkner crushed him for 30 runs in an over was the turning point of his life.

Pursuing 304, Faulkner hit Ishant for four sixes and a boundary in the 30-run 48th over as Australia won by four wickets, with Faulkner unbeaten on 64 off 29 balls.

Ishant uncovered he thought that it was hard to rest for three weeks after, and even ‘cried like a kid’.

Ishant’s Toughest Time After that Match:

“The turning point of my life came in 2013. Faulkner hit me for 30 runs in one over in an ODI in Mohali that Australia went on to win,” Ishant told ESPNcricinfo. “At that time I felt I had betrayed myself and my country. For two-three weeks, I didn’t speak to anyone. I cried a lot. I am a very tough guy. My mother says she hasn’t seen a tougher person than me.

“I called my girlfriend and cried on the phone like a child”. Those three weeks were like a nightmare. I stopped eating. I couldn’t sleep or do anything else. You switch on the television and people are criticising you, which messes you up even more.

“I laugh about it now and I consider it a blessing in disguise. Sometimes you need a jolt to understand your passion. After the Faulkner incident, I went through major changes in my life. After 2013, I started taking things seriously. Before that, if I had a bad performance, people would come and tell me ‘It’s okay, it happens.’

But after 2013, if someone came to me and said that, I wouldn’t listen. If I have made a mistake, I have made a mistake. I started taking responsibility for my actions. When you do that, you play every match to win it for the team.”

Ishant remained in and out of the ODI team and played the last of his 80 games in the format in 2016. However, he is a regular, and even the leader of the pack in Test cricket currently. Ishant’s average in Tests was around 37 in 2017 while it has come down to around 32 now.

Ishant credited then captain MS Dhoni for backing him during the tough phases.

“MS Dhoni always backed me. Even after my first 50-60 Tests, he never said we’ll look for someone to replace you. To tell you the truth, even after playing 97 Tests, I still don’t understand things like average and strike rate,” he explained. “I’ve never bothered about these things. If I’m not able to understand them, why should I rely on them? It’s just a number after all.

Ishant Sharma Reveals How He Found Out Dhoni's coolness

If I am bowling in India and the captain tells me to bowl in a way that I concede only 40 runs in 20 overs and that the spinners will take care of picking up wickets, that’s what is important to me. It doesn’t matter to me that my bowling average is around 37. My communication will be with my captain and that’s why Dhoni backed me.”

Ishant revealed he’d like to be a part of a World Cup-winning squad

“Obviously, I would love to play in a World Cup. Actually, I want to be part of a World Cup-winning team, as it will be a different feeling altogether. We are playing the World Test Championship, which is equivalent to a World Cup in Test cricket, but you realise that not a lot of people follow it, while an ODI World Cup is widely followed.”

VIVO Pulls Out As IPL Title Sponsor For This Season Amid Conflicts in Ladakh

VIVO has pulled out as the title sponsor of the Indian Premier League (IPL) during the current year’s version, following reaction via social media. VIVO had paid Rs 2,199 crore for a five-year contract in 2018.

The BCCI on Sunday had reported that all sponsors were being held, yet VIVO pulled out after analysis via social media in the setting of the conflicts among Indian and Chinese soldiers in Ladakh in June.

The Indian cricket board on Sunday had declared that the 2020 season will be played from September 19 to November 10 in the United Arab Emirates.

West Indies Tour of Australia Called-Off Amid T20WC Postpone

    0
Australia vs West Indies T20 Called off

Australia’s October Twenty20 series against the West Indies was canceled Tuesday, as the COVID-19 pandemic keeps on influencing the worldwide brandishing schedule.

It follows the postpone of the T20 World Cup, planned for October-November in Australia, and the current month’s one-day international series against Zimbabwe.

Cricket Australia said the three-match West Indies series had been proposed as a warm-up to the T20 World Cup, yet could no longer fill that need.

“In light of this development… it has been agreed to postpone the matches,” CA said in a statement.

The series will occur ahead of the rescheduled T20 World Cup, on dates yet to be decided in either 2021 or 2022.

Australia is currently struggling with the second wave of coronavirus infections and its international borders remain closed, with arrivals required to undergo a 14-day quarantine.

Despite the logistical difficulties, Cricket Australia insists a money-spinning four-Test series against India in December-January will proceed.

They have been less vocal about the fate of the first-ever Test match between Australia and Afghanistan, which is due to be held in Perth in late November.

Australian Women Cricketers Slams India’s Decision:

Some of Australia’s top women’s cricketers blasted a decision by India to schedule its T20 Challenge during the Big Bash League as a “huge shame” and “sad for the game”.

Women's BBL and IPL Dates clashes

Indian cricket officials on Sunday said the women’s T20 match will take place in the United Arab Emirates, comprising three teams with four matches during the playoff week of the cash-rich and globally popular men’s Indian Premier League (IPL).

That would see it clash with the Women’s Big Bash League (WBBL), widely considered the top women’s Twenty20 tournament, which is due to be held between October 17 and November 29.

It would effectively mean Indian players will not be available for the WBBL while overseas stars face having to pick between the competitions.

Indian Women Cricketer Mithali Raj Says She is Focused On Winning the World Cup Next Year

    0

India’s ODI captain Mithali Raj says she is focussed on winning the World Cup one year from now to finish some incomplete business and finish her vocation on a burst of wonder.

Indian Women’s Team in the World Cup So far:

Twice India verged on winning the World Cup however the group couldn’t lift the desired trophy. Under Mithali’s captaincy, India arrived to the finals of the 2017 World Cup however lost to England. After a year in the West Indies, India was taken out in the semi-finals of the T20 World Cup.

“In 2013, when India hosted the world cup, we didn’t even qualify for the super six stages. I was hurt and quite disappointed,” she said on Star Sports 1 Telugu show Girl Power-Sarileru Manakevvaru.

“I thought let me give a try in the 2017 World Cup. Then I really worked hard for that World Cup. As a player, as a captain, I did a lot of homework. I thought when we were in the finals, if we win the finals, then I will retire.

“After playing for so many years, probably I had everything, except that one World Cup. In 2021 again I am going to give another try, hopefully with everybody’s wishes and God willing we should crack it.”

    Mithali Resigned from T20:

The 37-year-old Mithali, who resigned from T20 cricket a year ago to focus exclusively on ODIs, said she sought to join civil service before cricket turned into a part of her life.

“Honestly cricket happened to me. It didn’t come by choice. I didn’t choose to get into cricket. You can see, my teammates, those who have different stories, as they played with their brothers, and some of them were inspired by their brothers. They played in the streets.

“But (for me) it was nothing like that. My dad took me to the academy there whatever transpired, and I was straight away into a full-fledged academy for girls.

“I was too young to make a choice. If at that time somebody could ask a 10-year-old Mithali, what you want to become, I would have said that I wanted to become an IAS officer. Not a sportsperson, not a dancer. I always felt I had it in me to be an IAS officer.”

She felt women’s cricket should have come under the BCCI at least five years before it actually did.

“Women’s cricket came under BCCI at the time of 2006-07. I feel if it had happened five years before, it would have been better.

Many talented players at that time, because of lack of money, lack of financial stability through this game, they had to shift to different fields.

“After turning 23-24, parents will ask what is next? So, being a women cricketer what can you tell parents? I don’t earn money, I am playing for passion? Nobody will buy it. Because of that reason, a lot of talented people had to let go of their profession (cricket).

“So, at that time if BCCI was there, they would have added an extended career and we would have more pool of players in women’s cricket.”

Sachin Tendulkar And Shaun Pollock Responds To Rohit Sharma’s Mumbai Indians Comeback Wish
