Cricket enthusiasts on Thursday witnessed a similar event as Dhawan and Dinesh Karthik combined to pull one of the most hilarious banter of the 14th edition of the Indian Premier League in the DC vs KKR league match.
Dhawan and Dinesh Karthik involves in friendly banter
On Thursday, April 29, the southpaw scored 46 off 47 balls against the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad. In the meantime, he and Dinesh Karthik were involved in a moment of theatrics. In the 12th over of DC’s run-chase, Karthik made a loud stumping appeal to get rid of Dhawan. Varun Chakravarthy bowled a wide after which the appeal was made.
Replays showed that Dhawan never lifted his foot off the ground. During the appeal, Karthik was seen pointing fingers at the southpaw. In reply, Dhawan threw an amusing reaction. The video of the same has garnered a lot of popularity on social media.
Axar Patel and Lalit Yadav took two wickets each as Kolkata Knight Riders were restricted to 154/6. Shubman Gill scored 43 to anchor their innings, and then, despite a mini-collapse in the middle, Andre Russell smashed an unbeaten 45 off 27 deliveries to take KKR to a respectable total.
Dhawan’s opening partner Prithvi Shaw then got DC off to the perfect start, smashing six fours in the very first over of their chase. The openers put on 132 for the first wicket to finish KKR’s hopes of defending the modest total.
Shaw made an impressive 18 balls half-century which boosts DC to secure their victory against the KKR.
The southpaw is currently the Orange Cap holder as he has notched 311 runs from seven games at an average and strike rate of 44.42 and 131.77 respectively. He also has two fifties along with a top score of 92 against the Punjab Kings (PBKS).

DC vs KKR IPL 2021 Highlights: Delhi Capitals and Kolkata Knight Riders lock their horns to play their 7th league match of the IPL 2021 season. KKR needs to continue their victory strike in order to move to a safe zone in the IPL 2021 points table.
Match: Delhi Capitals(DC) vs Kolkata Knight Riders(KKR)
Venue: Narendra Modi Stadium, Ahmedabad
Toss Details: Delhi Capitals won the toss and opt to bowl
We will bowl first. There might be dew, but the wicket still looks dry. So we want to make use of it with the ball. You can only take the positives from such a loss. One change. Mishy had some shoulder injury, so Lalit comes in.
Eoin Morgan | KKR Skipper
Would have liked to chase, been the trend in T20 cricket but ultimately we need to play good cricket. The bowlers were accurate and got a lot more than previous games. I have struggled for form as well. Was nice to get some runs, albeit a small contribution. Hopefully I can continue through the tournament. No changes for us. Looks like our strongest XI on paper. Another opportunity for us to build confidence and bring our best.
Nitish Rana and Shubman Gill gets into the crease to lead KKR from the front while Ishant Sharma opens the bowling attack for DC.
This duo is expected to make a massive opening partnership but Axar Patel in the 4th over dismissed Rana for 15 runs and breaks the partnership for 25 runs.
Following Rana’s dismissal, Gill and Tripathi join hands and leads the KKR. Tripathi struggles to face the aggressive DC bowlers. Soon Stoinis in the 10th over dismissed Tripathi for 19 runs where KKR scored 73 runs for 2 wickets loss at the end of the 10 overs.
In the following over Lalit Yadav picks a couple of massive wickets by dismissing Eoin Morgon and Narine for golden ducks. This loads the pressure over the KKR batting unit.
Innings Break: Birthday boy @Russell12A‘s unbeaten 45 off 27 balls takes his team to 154-6. #KKR score 59 runs in the last 5 overs.
With Russell’s quickfire of 45 runs from 27 deliveries along with Gill’s contribution of 43 runs, KKR scored 154 runs for 6 wickets loss.
Delhi Capitals (DC) Batting
Dhawan and Shaw gets into the crease to lead DC to chase down the target of 155 runs. While Shivam Mavi opens the bowling attack.
KKR needs to make quick wickets by dismissing the dangerous opening pair. But DC’s opener seems to be very strong with their bat as they scored massive 67 runs for no wicket loss at the end of the powerplay.

65/0 DC vs CSK Mumbai

With back-to-back aggressive strikes, Shaw scored an impressive 18 ball half-century. At the end of the 10 overs, DC scored 95 runs for no wicket loss.
Finally in the 14th over puts an end to the destructive batting partnership by dismissing Dhawan for 46 runs. Cummins in his next over makes a couple of late wickets by dismissing Shaw and Pant for 82 and 16 runs respectively.
Without much pressure Stoinis with a boundary bags the 5th victory of the IPL 2021 league.
Wasn’t thinking anything to be honest. Was just waiting for the loose balls. We’ve played for four-five years now (with Mavi), so I knew where he will bowl to me. I was prepared (for the short ball). The first four-five balls he bowled were half-vollies so I was prepared for the short ball but unfortunately he didn’t bowl.
On this wicket especially when the spinner is bowling it wasn’t coming very nicely onto the bat. Was stopping a little. Was waiting for them to bowl at me on off stump or outside so I can free my hands. When I’m in there, I keep playing and don’t think about the score. Don’t think about myself, just want the team to win.
No we haven’t spoken yet (with Sehwag) but if I chance I’d like to because he’s the one who likes to score off the first ball. My dad has supported very well. After getting back from Australia, I wasn’t happy with myself.
My dad just asked me to play my natural game. All these words set a target on me and I worked hard. In cricket the graphs are going to go up and down, a lot of failures are going to come my way.
MI vs RR IPL 2021 Highlights: Mumbai Indians and Rajasthan Royals lock their horns to play their 6th league match of the IPL 2021 season. Both the teams look forward to win the match to gain some points to move up their positions on the IPL 2021 points table.
Match: Mumbai Indians(MI) vs Rajasthan Royals(RR)
Venue: Arun Jaitley Stadium, Delhi
Toss Details: Mumbai Indians won the toss and opt to bowl
We are going to field first. The pitch looks alright, looks a good pitch, better than Chennai. Looking to chase the total. This looks much better. We want to play fearless cricket, hopefully the guys take the responsibility. Ishan is out and Nathan Coulter Nile is in. You got to pick your best XI and find the right balance as well. I think looking at the conditions and opposition we have picked our best XI.
Sanju Samson | RR Skipper
We would have liked to bowl first. We can see some grass, but I think it’s good for batting and bowling. We need to bat better. We play every game in a different perspective. Captaincy is getting better and better, first game was tough. Really enjoying this role.
Jos Buttler, Yashasvi Jaiswal, Sanju Samson(w/c), Shivam Dube, David Miller, Rahul Tewatia, Riyan Parag, Chris Morris, Jaydev Unadkat, Chetan Sakariya, Mustafizur Rahman

In a mail to the states on Wednesday (April 28), BCCI interim CEO Hemang Amin has told the associations that the apex body is according a one-time permission to conduct the tournament by waiving off the 15-day cooling off clause for the state units in view of the pandemic situation.
“Owing to the current Covid-19 pandemic situation, the BCCI is giving a one-time permission to organise the tournament within the 15-day window after completion of IPL 2021,” Amin stated in the letter. “Accordingly, the BCCI is pleased to grant you the approval to organise the tournament for the year 2021.”
However, Mumbai Cricket Association has already deferred its T20 league till further notice as Maharashtra fights the second wave of coronavirus.
“In the view of the current situation, President Vijay Patil ji and I, in my capacity as the Chairman, have taken the decision to not conduct the T20 Mumbai League till further notice. This is our way to reduce the load on the state machinery and also making sure everyone is safe,” MCA president Vijay Patil and chairman of Mumbai T20 league Milind Narvekar said in a joint statement on Thursday.
Four state associations – Tamil Nadu, Karnataka, and Saurashtra besides Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA) – have sought permission to hold their own leagues.
The mail follows a decision at the recent apex council and Amin said that in as many words. “Your request for organizing the tournament falls within the 15-day period after the 2021 concludes as the IPL 2021 gets over on May 30, 2021. The issue was discussed at the apex Ccuncil meeting of the BCCI and after some deliberations it was decided that owing to the current covid-19 pandemic situation, the BCCI is giving permission to organize the tournament within the 15-day period after the completion of IPL 2021.”
The IPL 2021 is being played even as India is witnessing breaking records for daily coronavirus cases which were reported to have crossed 3.79 lakh yesterday alone.
Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) skipper David Warner took full responsibility for the team’s loss in CSK vs SRH last night in Delhi.
David Warner on Loss vs CSK
The Australian batsman said that he took too many balls to score his 57, which is not acceptable in T20 cricket. Warner scored 57 off 55 balls and batted for the first 17 overs of the first innings.
“I take full responsibility. The way that I batted was obviously very slow. Obviously, I hit a lot of fielders and was very, very frustrated. Look I take full responsibility from the batting point of view. I felt Manish [Pandey] coming back into the team, the way that he batted was exceptional. And obviously Kane [Williamson] and Kedar [Jadhav] towards the back end there, they put some boundaries away and got us to a respectable total. I felt that we were probably just below par from where we were. But yeah look, at the end of the day, I’ll take full responsibility,” Warner said at the post-match presentation.
“I hit probably 15 good shots to fielders, [as] simple as that,” he said. “I can’t do much about it. They’re the ones that make or break your innings I think. In the first six overs, I hit [to] the fielder four or five times. There was one guy on the leg side, I hit it straight to him with a full toss. It gets frustrating as a batsman when you’re out there. But at the end of the day, I took too many balls.”
Warner praised Manish Pandey’s inning and welcomed him back into the playing XI, saying “He batted exceptionally well”. Warner credited Kane Williamson and Kedar Jadhav for helping the team reach a respectable total in the end as the duo came in and scored some quick runs.
Trevor Bayliss’s View
The Sunrisers’ coach Trevor Bayliss acknowledged that Warner was finding it tough but backed his captain to come good at the post-match press conference.
“Look I think David will be the first to admit he struggled to hit the gaps today,” Bayliss said. “He hit a lot of balls to the field today. Obviously, with David that doesn’t happen a lot. Tonight it did, so yeah that put us a bit behind the eight-ball, but the other guys batted really well in a team effort. Unfortunately, 170 [171] wasn’t quite enough. I thought they bowled pretty well and then obviously batted well.”
Sunrisers Hyderabad skipper David Warner scripts various records in CSK vs SRH league match in IPL 2021.
David Warner scripts various records in IPL 2021
David Warner became the first batter to have struck 50 half-centuries. Along with this Warner also reached the milestone of completing 10,000 runs in T20 format matches. And also becomes 8th to smash 200 or more sixes in IPL.
Warner becomes 1st batsman to score 50 half-centuries in IPL
With his fighting 55-ball 57, the veteran batsman also became the first batsman in the history of IPL to score 50 half-centuries. In the list of most fifties, Warner is followed by Shikhar Dhawan, who has scored 43 half-centuries.
The SRH skipper has played 148 matches and amassed 5447 runs in his iconic IPL career. Riding on Warner’s record half-century, SRH managed to score 171-3 in 20 overs.
Warner also leads the charts for most 50-plus totals in IPL history with 54 such scores to his name so far (50 half-centuries and four centuries). At the second spot are Dhawan (43 fifties and two centuries) and Kohli (40 fifties and 5 centuries) with 45 such scores each. De Villiers is the third on his list with 43 – 40 fifties and three centuries.
Warner becomes 4th batsman to score 10,000 runs in T20s
The SRH skipper added another feather to his illustrious IPL cap with his impressive half-century against the Dhoni-led side. Scripting history in the 20-over format, Warner became the fourth player to smash 10,000 runs in T20 cricket.
The milestone man of the Sunrisers Hyderabad has joined the likes of Chris Gayle, Kieron Pollard, and Shoaib Malik by joining the 10k club in T20 cricket.
SRH skipper 8th to smash 200 or more sixes in IPL
After becoming the 4th batsman to score 10k runs, Warner smoked a handsome six to complete 200 maximums in the IPL. In the six-hitting list of the IPL, Warner is only behind Chris Gayle (354), AB de Villiers (245), Rohit Sharma (222), MS Dhoni (217), Virat Kohli (204), Pollard (202), and Suresh Raina (202) as the Australian opener is the eighth batsman to smash 200 or more sixes in the IPL.
After Pat Cummins donated 50,000 USD to the PM Cares Fund to aid India’s fight against the COVID-19 pandemic, former Australian pacer Brett Lee has also has decided to donate 1 Bitcoin (nearly Rs. 40 lakhs).
Brett Lee Donates 1 BitCoin
The 44-year-old, who is currently in India for the ongoing IPL 2021, took to Twitter to announce that he would be donating 1 Bitcoin to help with “the purchase of oxygen supplies for hospitals across India.”
Taking to Twitter, Lee wrote, “India has always been like a second home for me. The love and affection that I have got from the people of this country both during my professional career and even after my retirement, holds a special place in my heart. It saddens me deeply to see people suffering due to the ongoing pandemic.
“Now is the time to be united and ensure we do as much as we can to help the ones in need,” he wrote. “Well done Pat Cummins for the initiative yesterday”, he further wrote.
Earlier on Monday, Kolkata Knight Riders’ Australian pacer Cummins announced a USD 50,000 donation towards PM CARES Fund for oxygen supplies in India’s COVID-19 ravaged hospitals and backed the IPL to continue, saying he has been “advised” that the Indian government views it “as few hours of joy” in a difficult time.
In a statement on his official Twitter handle, he made the announcement and urged other top players to do the same as the country battles a deadly second wave of the pandemic recording more than 2,000 daily deaths for the past few days.
Facing an acute shortage of medical supplies, India has been receiving plenty of foreign aid. The United Kingdom’s help arrived on Tuesday, which included 100 ventilators and 95 Oxygen concentrators.
After a string of cricketers opted out of the ongoing Indian Premier League due to the Covid-19 scare, now, umpires Nitin Menon and Paul Reiffel have pulled out of the cash-rich league.
Nitin Menon and Paul Reiffel Pulled Out of IPL 2021
Nitin Menon and Australian Paul Reiffel, both part of ICC’s Elite Panel of Umpires, have withdrawn from the IPL due to various personal reasons.
Menon flew home to Indore after his mother and wife tested positive for the virus, whereas former Aussie seamer Reiffel went back a few days ago due to anxiety about the Australian government not allowing flights from India.
“Nitin has a small child to look after as his mother and wife have tested positive while Reiffel informed BCCI that he fears not being able to go home due to the Australian government’s decision banning all flights from India. The BCCI already had several local umpires as backup so they will be officiating in games in which Menon and Reiffel were scheduled to stand,” a BCCI official told Indian Express.
On Tuesday, BCCI’s interim chief executive officer Hemang Amin wrote to all eight IPL teams, players, officials, commentators as well as coaching and support staff that the board will arrange smooth transport back home once the tournament gets over. The BCCI advisory came after the Australian government decided to halt all flights from India till May 15.
“We understand that many of you are apprehensive about how you will get back home once the tournament concludes, which is natural and understandable. We want to apprise you that you have nothing to worry about. The BCCI will do everything to ensure that you reach your respective destinations seamlessly.
The BCCI is monitoring the situation very closely and is working with the government authorities to make arrangements to get you home once the tournament concludes. Be rest assured that the tournament is not over for BCCI till each one of you has reached your home, safe and sound,” Amin wrote in an email.
Menon and Reiffel are the first two match officials to pull out of the league midway. The BCCI was expecting another Australian umpire, Rod Tucker to fly to India for IPL but he too has informed the board that he won’t be making it to the sub-continent due to personal reasons.
CSK vs SRH Highlights IPL 2021: Chennai Super Kings and Sunrisers Hyderabad lock their horns to play their 6th league match of the IPL 2021 season. CSK will crown the top position of the IPL 2021 points table if they beat SRH.
Match: Chennai Super Kings(CSK) vs Sunrisers Hyderabad(SRH)
Venue: Arun Jaitley Stadium, Delhi
Toss Details: Sunrisers Hyderabad won the toss and opt to bat
We will bat first. (Reasons?) Because we haven’t done that yet (laughs). It’s a different surface to what was expected in Delhi. But it’s not going to change much through the course of the game. We are just looking at the attitude in tough situations. We just want to stay relaxed and come out with clear minds. It’s about experience for us, so we have two changes. Abhishek Sharma and Virat (Singh) miss out. Sandeep and Pandey are back.
We were looking to bowl first. Looks a bit tacky and the boys who practiced yesterday said there was quite a bit of dew. We prefer to chase if there is a chance of dew. Bowling with the wet ball or bowling in conditions where there is not much help is the area we would want to improve. We were slow in the first game but we picked up pace. Lungi and Moeen are back in place of Bravo and Tahir.
Playing XI
Sunrisers Hyderabad(SRH)
David Warner(c), Jonny Bairstow(w), Kane Williamson, Manish Pandey, Kedar Jadhav, Vijay Shankar, Rashid Khan, Jagadeesha Suchith, Sandeep Sharma, Khaleel Ahmed, Siddarth Kaul.
Chennai Super Kings(CSK)
Ruturaj Gaikwad, Faf du Plessis, Moeen Ali, Suresh Raina, Ambati Rayudu, MS Dhoni(w/c), Ravindra Jadeja, Sam Curran, Shardul Thakur, Lungi Ngidi, Deepak Chahar.
IPL 2021 CSK vs SRH Highlights
Sunrisers Hyderabad(SRH) Batting
David Warner and Bairstow gets into the crease to lead SRH while Deepak Chahar opens the bowling attack.
After a catch drop of the first over Bairstow loses his wicket in 4th over to Sam Curran while scoring 7 runs. Manish Pandey and David Warner join hands for the firt wicket down.
This duo on understanding the need for a healthy partnership makes a steady game. While CSK struggled to break the partnership. At the end of the 10 overs, SRH scored 69 runs for 1 wicket loss.
The duo added a massive 106 runs partnership for the next wicket. Ngidi in the 18th over stuns SRH by dismissing Warner and Manish Pandey for 57 and 61 runs respectively.
These wickets were not quite enough to restrict the SRH run flow. Williamson in the followed over scored 20 runs and Jadav with a boundary and a six off the last over drag SRH to score 171 runs for 3 wickets loss.
After keeping it tight for a large part of the game, #CSK concede 44 runs in the last 18 balls as #SRH get 171-3 from their 20 overs.
Faf du Plessis and Ruturaj Gaikwad gets into lead CSK to chase down the target of 172 runs. While Sandeep Sharma opens the bowling attack.
SRH needs to pick the early wickets of the openers to avoid a massive opening partnership. CSK’s dangerous opening duo is well known for their long stand on the field especially while in chasing.
As expected this duo starts to add quality runs in the powerplay which makes CSK to score 50 runs for no wicket loss at the end of the power play. With the duo’s aggressiveness, CSK scored 91 runs for no wicket loss at the end of the 10 overs.
SRH needs to pack some wickets in order to increase their winning percentage. Finally Rashid Khan at the end of the 13th over dismissed Ruturaj Gaikwad for 75 runs and breaks the partnership.
Though CSK loses a couple of wickets to Rashid Khan in the 15th over in the form of Moeen Ali and Faf, CSK had a healthy run rate to chase down the target.
In the mid of 19th over CSK bags the victory with a boundary from Raina and backs to the top of the points table.
Means a lot (his highest IPL score). Little bit disappointed couldn’t finish it well. Think it was little bit two paced, little bit low bounce. Scoring big shots was difficult. It was all about how you hit gaps and hit over the fielders. Just planned who is the better bowler on this surface, who is not. One or two bowlers had a bit of an off day, cashed in on them. Just want to keep performing each and every match.

The BCCI is likely to postpone the fourth edition(2021) of the Women’s T20 Challenge owing to the potential unavailability of overseas players in the wake of restrictions imposed by several countries on travel to and from India, where a second wave of the Covid-19 pandemic has led to several world-record daily spikes of cases this month.
Women’s T20 2021 Postponed
Speaking to ANI, a BCCI official in the know of developments said it looks quite difficult to arrange the women’s tournament keeping in mind the current COVID-19 scenario.
“An official decision is yet to be made, but unfortunately looks highly unlikely. The second COVID-19 wave has made things very difficult and with travel restrictions and flight bans, hosting a tournament with overseas players won’t be easy. Also, the safety of everyone involved will always be the priority. Might have to skip this edition and get back to hosting it next season,” the BCCI official explained.
According to Espn Cricinfo – Womens T20 Challenge likely to be postponed due to COVID-19.
In fact, there were also reports of some foreign players — especially Australians — wanting to return home from the ongoing IPL, but those reports have been termed ‘incorrect’ by Cricket Australia.
“The players are intending to remain until the end of the tournament unless something changes dramatically. The media reports citing otherwise are incorrect,” a Cricket Australia source told ANI.
IPL COO Hemang Amin has assured all players and support staff that the BCCI will ensure their smooth return home at the end of the league. In a letter to the players and support staff, accessed by ANI, Hemang addressed the apprehension and concerns of the cricketers. He said that the tournament isn’t over for the BCCI till every player reaches home safely.
Be rest assured that the tournament is not over for BCCI till each one of you has reached your home, safe and sound,” he wrote on Tuesday.
He also pointed that the bio-bubbles are being further strengthened with an eye on the coronavirus situation. The interim BCCI CEO also thanked the players for the service they are doing by bringing smiles on the faces of hundreds of cricket fans in these trying times. He summed up by thanking the health and frontline workers.
