Siraj Explains How Virat Kohli Plays a Crucial Role in his Career

Siraj praises Virat Kohli for backing him and comforting him during the Australia series

India pacer Mohammed Siraj has attributed his growth in international cricket to the support he has been receiving from his India and Royal Challengers Bangalore captain, Virat Kohli. The Hyderabad pacer said Kohli has been standing by him through thick and thin of his career.

    Virat Kohli backs Mohammed Siraj

Siraj got his maiden call in the Australia tour and had a successful start in his international cricket career. The Hyderabad pacer topped the bowling charts for India with 13 wickets from 3 matches, including a 5-wicket haul in the Gabba Test.

Notably, Siraj chooses to stay with the team even after losing his father who died when he was in Australia. The pacer revealed that the support from Kohli and his teammates kept him motivated during those trying times.

“Virat bhaiya always says — you have the ability, the ability to play on any wicket and get rid of any batsman,” Siraj told The TOI.

“I had lost my father during the Australia series. I was shattered and not really in my senses. It was Virat bhaiya who gave me strength and support. I owe my career to Virat.

“Virat has supported me through thick and thin. He has always been there for me in all circumstances. I remember how I was crying in the hotel room. Vrirat bhaiya came to my room and hugged me tightly and said ‘I am with you, don’t worry’. Those words encouraged me a lot. He played just one Test on the tour but his messages and calls motivated me,” he added.

Kohli glimpse him on England Tour

Recently during the IPL (which was suspended indefinitely after 29 matches), Siraj was standing outside the RCB dressing room after an IPL 2021 match against Chennai Super Kings which his team lost by 69 runs when RCB team captain Virat gave him another pep talk.

Mohammed Siraj was bought by the Royal Challengers Bangalore in the 2018 IPL auction.

Siraj revealed that Kohli acknowledged the improvement in his bowling and asked him to be ready for the England tour. Siraj has been named in the 20-man squad for the World Test Championship final and the subsequent 5-Test series in England in August-September.

“Recently, after our match vs CSK (in now-suspended IPL 2021), Virat bhaiya came and said ‘the changes you have brought about in your bowling are amazing. It will be benefiting our team. Be ready for the England tour. All the best’. These words from one of the best captains in the world motivate me a lot,” Siraj said.

Rahul Dravid, the former Indian cricketer name gets into everyone’s mind when one thinks about the alternate head coach for the India tour of Sri Lanka.

Rahul Dravid to Coach Team India

Yes, BCCI needs to look for an alternate coach for the India tour of the Sri Lanka squad. As the regular coach Ravi Shastri will be assisting the Virat Kohli led Indian team to play the WTC finals followed by a 5 match test series against England.

Bowling coach Bharat Arun and batting coach Vikram Rathour will also be staying back with the team in England.

It is being heard that a whole different squad will be sent to Sri Lanka to play three T20i and three ODI games. He may take the assistance of a few of his peers from the National Cricket Academy (NCA). As of now, Rahul Dravid is the director of NCA and monitors the squads of India U-19 and India A.

Earlier Dravid was Head Coach for the India Under-19 and India A teams from 2016 to 2019. Under his coaching, the under-19 team was runners up at the 2016 u-19 Cricket World Cup and were winners at the 2018 u-19 Cricket World Cup.

    Sri Lanka vs India Schedule

After the BCCI announced the dates for the Sri Lanka series, the match timings have also been announced recently. The three-match ODI series which will take place from July 13 to July 19 will begin from 1:30 PM IST.

However, the three T20Is will be played in the evening, starting 7:00 PM IST.

The ODI series between India and Sri Lanka will start from 1.30 pm and the T20i series will commence from 7 pm.

Notably, all the matches will be played in Colombo owing to the strict COVID-19 protocols and bio-bubble restriction. Lately, Sri Lankan Cricket Administrative Committee chairman (in Sportstar) confirmed that all the matches in the series between India vs Sri Lanka will be played without any crowd in the stadium.

BCCI Warns Team India Ahead of England Tour for WTC

BCCI has informed its England-bound India players that if they test positive after landing in Mumbai before embarking on the tour, they can consider themselves out of the trip.

    BCCI warns Team India

Virat Kohli led India team is scheduled to fly out on June 2 to play the World Test Championship final against New Zealand, followed by a five-Test series against England.

“The players have been informed to consider their tour over if they are found positive on their arrival in Mumbai as BCCI will not arrange another charter flight for any cricketer,” a source in the Indian board informed.

The board has also asked the team members to take the first jab of the Covishield vaccine in India and BCCI will arrange for their second doses in England.

As the AstraZeneca vaccine available in England is a version of Covishield, the BCCI can make the second dose available for its players there.

“The players, support staff and families will be tested and two negative reports are required before they leave for Mumbai. It will be done in order to ensure that they are coming into the bubble without any infection. The players have also been given the option to travel by air or car to reach Mumbai. For vaccination, BCCI has informed the players to take Covishield which they can get in England, and not Covaxin,” the BCCI source informed.

Players like Virat Kohli, Ishant Sharma, Ajinkya Rahane, Cheteshwar Pujara and Umesh Yadav took their first vaccine doses on Monday while a few players will be taking them in the coming days. The BCCI has asked players to get in touch if they don’t have access to the Covishield vaccine, and the Board will arrange it for them.

    Quarantine issue

The BCCI is still to finalise the number of days the Indian players will have to undergo quarantine. The board wants 14 days’ quarantine in India and another 10 days in England before they play the World Test Championship final. The players don’t want a hard quarantine and want some relaxation while being in isolation in India.

Sourav Ganguly Lists Reasons why Team India is Best

Former India skipper and BCCI President Sourav Ganguly lauded the team India for their achievements and highlighted several aspects of that made the team dominate the world of cricket.

    Ganguly Lauds team India

Under the captaincy of Virat Kohli team, India makes a list of various achievements in cricket history, especially in Test. Though India fails to lift the ICC trophy under Kohli’s captaincy India makes impressive wins in the Test series, especially in abroad matches.

India beats Australia in their own backyard despite losing more than half of their top performers due to injuries and various other reasons. The strong Indian squad is set to face New Zealand in the inaugural WTC at England.

“The system is strong – domestic cricket, NCA (National Cricket Academy), coaches. The IPL is also a reason. Fairness of selection; only the best gets picked. There is transparency. The cricket system is robust. Four-day and T20 (cricket) are different, but the IPL does help. Gives confidence that you can play at this level. Talent is important and adjustment is not a problem,” said Ganguly.

    India won a four-Test series in Australia(2-1) in 2018-19

Sourav Ganguly is known as one of the finest captains India ever played under. He had taken his team to remarkable heights including the final of the ICC Cricket World Cup in 2003. Even now when the team doing exceptionally well under Kohli’s leadership, Ganguly is associated with it as the BCCI President.

    Sourav Ganguly

“These are two different generations. This is a superb phase. We drew with Australia in Australia, beat England in England and Pakistan in Pakistan. Won in New Zealand, too. It was a glorious phase. This team is doing so well. I leave it at that. What happened in 2003, can’t be compared with 2021. I was involved both times – captain and now the BCCI president,” Ganguly said.

    India tour of Sri Lanka

The players who aren’t in the squad for the WTC finals, will be part of the T20I and ODI series against Sri Lanka, which expects to give an opportunity to youngsters to cement a place in the side.

All the matches to be played in Colombo’s R Premadasa Stadium behind closed doors. BCCI president Sourav Ganguly had last week revealed that white-ball specialists will be touring the island nation for a limited-overs tour while the Indian Test team will be in UK.

“We plan to host the entire series at one venue,” Sri Lanka Cricket’s Administrative Committee chairman Arjuna de Silva told Sportstar. “As of now, it has been decided that the Premadasa Stadium will host the fixtures. Obviously, it depends on how the situation is around that time.”

England cricketers are likely to miss the remaining matches of the IPL 2021 which postponed indefinitely owing to spike in COVID19 cases.

England cricketers may miss IPL 2021

Earlier BCCI points that IPL may happen before or after the ICC T20 World Cup, scheduled for October-November this year.

“We’re planning on the involvement of England players in England matches,” Giles was quoted as saying by ESPNcricinfo. “We’ve got a full FTP schedule. So if those tours to Pakistan and Bangladesh (before the T20 World Cup) are going ahead, I’d expect the players to be there.

“The New Zealand scenario was very different. Those Test matches were formalised at the end of January, by which time all those contracts and NOCs were signed for full involvement in the IPL.

“None of us knows what a rearranged IPL looks like at the moment; where it’s going to be or when. But from when we start this summer against New Zealand, our programme is incredibly busy. We’ve got a lot of important, high-profile cricket including the T20 World Cup and the Ashes. And we’re going to have to look after our players.”

Earlier, BCCI president Sourav Ganguly ruled out hosting the rest of the tournament in India.

“India is supposed to go to Sri Lanka for three ODIs and five T20Is. There are lots of organisational hazards like 14-day quarantine. It can’t happen in India. This quarantine is tough to handle. Too early to say how we can find a slot to complete the IPL,” he told Sportstar.

“You can say that now in hindsight that the IPL should have been called off earlier. Mumbai and Chennai (bio bubbles) did not have cases. Only when the IPL reached Delhi and Ahmedabad did the cases rise. People will say a lot of things in any case. The English Premier League had so many people affected. But they could reschedule the matches. But you can’t do that with IPL. You stop it for seven days and it is done. Players go back home and then the process of quarantine starts from scratch.

“…we would have continued if there were no cases. We would have completed the IPL. The players were in the bubble and there were no crowds at the venues. Players were not getting infected. Once the players got affected, we called it off. Look at leagues going around the world. They have had Covid cases, but they have continued.”

IPL 2021: Harshal Patel Opens on Playing for RCB

Virat Kohli’s message to Harshal Patel when he was traded to Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) made him realise that this is a team where he can finally showcase his skills, the fast bowler said.

Harshal Patel on playing for RCB

“The moment I was traded, Virat sent me a message, “Welcome back, you are going to play here”. That made a big impact in my confidence, and I realised this is a team where I can finally showcase all my skills,” Patel told the Hindustan Times.

Patel had his fair share of bad days in the short season, particularly when Ravindra Jadeja smashed 37 runs off him in a match between RCB and CSK.

Jadeja smashed 37 runs off an over bowled by Harshal Patel in CSK vs RCB league match of IPL 2021
Jadeja smashed 37 runs off an over bowled by Harshal Patel

“He gives you the space to do your thing. Even if you don’t execute at times he understands better than anybody that on a batter’s day, if they get hold of a bowler, you are going to go for runs. Whenever we are unable to execute, or we stray from our plans, when we sit for the review the only talk is about what do we do to stay on the path, how do we stay in the mindset to execute more often than not. We don’t let any other noise come into that environment,” said Patel.

Patel also said that AB de Villiers is someone who gives bowler-specific pointers based on what the veteran South African had seen so far in the match.

“Who better to tell you about what’s going on than AB? He doesn’t talk a lot, he will let you do your own thing but if he finds you are out of depth or struggling, he will come up to chat. Before I come in to bowl, he has probably seen seven or eight overs; he will give small pointers on what the wicket is doing, what the batters are trying to do, what are the deliveries that will work. It is always short and concise chat,” Patel said.

Patel, who was traded to RCB by the Delhi Capitals before the 2021 Indian Premier League season started, was a revelation in the seven matches that he played. Before the IPL 2021 was indefinitely postponed, Patel was the runaway leader in the Purple Cap standings with 17 wickets.

Mumbai Indians (MI) spinner Piyush Chawla lost his father Pramod Kumar Chawla in the COVID19 battle on Monday (May 10). A day before this tragic incident IPL’s raising star Chetan Sakariya too lost his father in the COVID19 battle.

Piyush Chawla lost his father in COVID19 battle

“Life won’t be the same without him anymore, lost my pillar of strength today,” wrote the Mumbai Indians spinner on his official Instagram account.

“With the deepest grief, we announce that my beloved father, Mr. Pramod Kumar Chawla, left for the heavenly abode on 10th May 2021. He was suffering from covid and post covid complications. We invite your kind thoughts and prayers in these difficult times. May his noble soul rest in peace.”

Piyush Chawla’s Indian Premier League team and former India teammate Irfan Pathan tweeted his condolences.

“Our thoughts go out to Piyush Chawla who lost his father, Mr. Pramod Kumar Chawla this morning. We are with you and your family in this difficult time. Stay strong,” Mumbai Indians tweeted.

Chawla, 32, has played three Tests, 25 ODIs, and 7 T20s for India. He represents Gujarat in the domestic circuit and has so far played 136 first-class matches, taking 445 wickets in it. Chawla remains as one of the leading wicket-takers of the IPL tournament.

The Aligarh-born spinner was fetched by Mumbai Indians in the IPL 2021 auction but he did not play a single game in the 2021 edition of the league, which was indefinitely suspended due to the COVID-19 outbreak in its bio-bubble.

India vs Sri Lanka 2021: India Set to Play 3 ODIs and 5 T20Is in Sri Lanka

    0
Rahane as Vice captain for WI tests

BCCI president Sourav Ganguly has indicated that India would tour Sri Lanka to play three ODIs and five T20I match series later in 2021. BCCI has not yet announced any official squad or schedule for the tour.

India tour of Sri Lanka 2021

BCCI have planned to play the series with another team. It seems that skipper Virat Kohli and vice-captain Rohit Sharma will not be part of the tour as they will be engaged in a marquee five-match Test series in England.

“We have planned a white ball series for the senior men’s team during the month of July where they will play T20 Internationals and ODIs in Sri Lanka,” Ganguly told PTI in an interaction.

Ganguly said the Indian team for the Sri Lanka tour will have none of the players selected for the England Tests.

“Yes, it will be a team of white-ball specialists. It will be a different team,” Ganguly said, making it clear that the cricket board also has the preparation of white ball regulars in mind.

Following the conclusion of the England Test series on September 14, India have another short opening in their schedule ahead of the T20 World Cup that is set to begin sometime in mid-October.

The global event is supposed to be held in India, but given a particularly deadly second wave of the pandemic is currently raging across the country – amid which the IPL’s biosecure bubble was breached promoting its indefinite postponement last week – it remains a possibility that the event will be shifted.

“The BCCI president is very keen that all our top players are match ready and since England doesn’t have a white ball leg the month of July can be utilized well,” a BCCI source told PTI while explaining the logic behind the tour.

For the Kohlis and Sharmas, they need not come from the UK, which has in place some hard quarantine rules.

“Technically, in the month of July, there are no official senior India team matches. The Test squad will be playing intrasquad games.

“So there is no harm in India’s white-ball experts getting some match time and selectors also get to fix the missing jigsaws in selection puzzle.”

Former Indian cricketer Parthiv Patel has named Moeen Ali as the game-changer of the MS Dhoni-led CSK in the 14th season of the Indian Premier League (IPL).

    Parthiv Patel praises Moeen Ali

The Mahendra Singh Dhoni-led franchise were in second place on 10 points behind Delhi Capitals — who were leading the table with 12 points — when a breach in the bio-bubble forced the IPL season to be postponed.

“I think Moeen Ali was the main game-changer for CSK. He can open, he can bat at No. 3, which he did really well. He carried on the momentum that Faf (du Plessis) and Ruturaj (Gaekwad) gave. It was good to see him performing so well,” Patel told Star Sports.

“It was important to make a collective comeback. That is exactly what has happened with CSK. Yes, openers did very well but I think the middle order was the key.”

Patel also gave credit to Dhoni’s captaincy, saying that the former India skipper “deciding the batting order wisely and promoting Moeen Ali at No. 3” was tactical thinking.

The former CSK opener also lauded MS Dhoni for pushing himself down the order in order to allow in-form batters like Ambati Rayudu, Moeen Ali, and Ravindra Jadeja to face the most number of deliveries.

“Everyone thought Suresh Raina will bat at No.3 but it was Moeen Ali. He knew what changes he needed to do. Everyone was thinking that MS Dhoni will come and bat at No. 4 or No. 5. He took the backseat, he knew that there are guys who are batting well and they should get more number of overs,” said Patel.

Moeen, a left-handed batsman and right-arm off-spinner aggregated 206 runs at an average of 34.33 and an impressive strike rate of 157.25 in the six innings. The England all-rounder also took five crucial wickets and had a superb economy rate of 6.16.
