How Aman Sehrawat shred 4.5 kg in 10 hours for the Bronze medal bout – Paris Olympics

Paris Olympics Bronze medal winner Aman Sehrawat revealed the secret behind dropping 4.5 kg within 10 hours for his Bronze medal match against Puerto Rico’s Darian Cruz.

India who was already left heartbroken after Vinesh Phogat’s disqualification in Paris 2024 was not ready to face the same pattern of disqualification. Yes, you heard it right, Aman Sehrawat was 61.5kg after his semifinal loss against Japan’s Rei Higuchi around 6:30 pm on Thursday which is exactly 4.5kg above his permissible limit of 57kg.

Earlier, team India lost a chance of winning GOLD after Vinesh Phogat was disqualified for being 100 grams over her permissible limit of 50kg.

Aman Sehrawat puts a lot of effort behind the screen to make it to the 57kg limit. As per the report, the process began with a one-and-a-half-hour mat session during which the two senior coaches engaged him in standing wrestling.

This was followed by a one-hour hot bath session. At 30 minutes past midnight, he hit the gym for an hour-long nonstop run on the treadmill. He was then given a 30-minute break, followed by five sessions of a 5-minute sauna bath.

Sehrawat lost 3.6kg at the end of the fifth sauna bath. With still kilos to shred, he was then given a massage, followed by light jogging and a 15-minute running session. By 4:30 am, his weight had reduced to 56.9 kilos, 100 grams less than the permissible limit.

“I watched videos of wrestling bouts, the whole night. We kept checking his weight every hour. We didn’t sleep the whole night, not even during the day. Weight cutting is routine, normal for us but there was tension, a lot of tension due to what happened the other day (with Vinesh). We could not let slip another medal”, said coach Dahiya

In between the weight loss session, Sehrawat did not sleep after that was given only lukewarm water with lemon and honey and a bit of coffee to drink.

“We did a lot to lose that weight. Once the bout ended, I practiced for two hours. Then at around 1 am, I trained at the gym. By 3, I was somewhat done. But I did not sleep at all. The main target was to get the weight within the permissible limit. Did not sleep at all before the fight,” Aman Sehrawat explained.
