After the heartbreak at last year’s Commonwealth Games and the T20 World Cup semi-final defeat earlier this year, the Indian women’s cricket team have finally laid their hands on the WINNER Title.

India Women’s and Sri Lanka Women’s were scheduled to play the final game of the Asian Games 2023 Women’s Cricket on September 25 at Pingfeng Campus Cricket Field, Hangzhou.

Since the start of the tournament, Indian Women’s dominated the game. India qualified for the tournament’s Final match by beating Bangladesh Women in the semi-final 1 game. Sri Lanka on the other hand defeated Pakistan in the semi-final 2 to qualify for the final game.

Harmanpreet Kaur who was under the ban for her inappropriate actions in the past has made her come back and led the team in the final game. Winning the toss, India decided to bat first and scored 116 runs for 7-wicket loss at the end of the 20 overs.

Though Indian batters failed to score big enough for the final game, Smriti Mandhana and J Rodrigues scored 46  and 42 runs respectively and pushed the team’s score beyond Hundred where India scored 116 runs for 7 wickets loss at the end of the 20 overs.

During the chase, Sri Lanka Women struggled to face the Indian bowlers and started to lose their wickets at regular intervals. That too, India’s Titas Sadhu bowled 4 overs and bagged 3 wickets while spilling just 6 runs.

At the end of 20 overs, Sri Lanka managed to score just 97 runs for 8 wickets loss and lost the final game by 19 runs against India.

With the victory, the Indian Women’s cricket team bagged the second Gold Medal for the country in Asian Games 2023.
