As India praises the 18th commemoration of the notable triumph in Natwest tri-series final against England, the legends of the group’s victory took to social media to review their recollections.
World Cup champ Yuvraj Singh, who hit a game dominating 69 in the final against England at Lord’s, took to Twitter to share return photographs from India’s well-known victory.
In an emotional post, Yuvraj wrote: “#Throwback to Natwest 2002 Final. Jaan laga di thi sab ne mil ke (All of us gave everything we had)! We were young and we wanted to win. It was a wonderful team effort that helped us beat England and clinch the trophy in this nail-biting game,” Yuvraj said, referring to India’s dramatic chase of 326 at Lord’s.
While doing so, Yuvraj Singh also teased former England captain Nasser Hussain, tagging him in the post and saying: “just in case you forgot”.

Notably, Nasser Hussain’s hundred in the final went in vain as England lost the match by 2 wickets despite posting 325 on the board.
Earlier in the day, the hero of the final, Mohammad Kaif took to social media and shared a memorable throwback photo from the post-match celebrations.
“July 13, 2002: The day we climbed Mt Everest at Lord’s…Dada shirtless, Yuvi nerveless, Zak’s support priceless, Me fearless…memories endless,” Kaif wrote.

India had lost 9 consecutive tournament finals in the lead up to Natwest series in 2002 and had to chase a mammoth total of 326 in the final against England at Lord’s. Ganguly had hit a quickfire 60 during a 100-plus opening stand with Virender Sehwag but India was in trouble after losing 5 wickets, including that of Sachin Tendulkar and Rahul Dravid, for 40 runs.
Yuvraj Singh and Mohammad Kaif though helped India clinch a memorable win by thriving under pressure as the young members of Ganguly’s team added a 121-run stand. Kaif remained unbeaten on 87 while Yuvraj hit a match-winning 69.
Former India captain Sourav Ganguly celebrated India’s triumph by taking off his shirt and waving it from the Lord’s balcony — an image that will be etched in the history of Indian cricket.
