    Sri Lanka Cricket Proposed It’s Idea to Host IPL 2020 in Order to Prevent BCCI’s Huge Loss

    The out break of corona virus made the whole world to halt where every scheduled events has been postponed without any further notice. In that list the most anticipated event of the year 2020 has also face the same fate.

    IPL suspend till further notice

    The cash rich Indian Premier League(IPL) has been suspended till further notice amid coronavirus pandemic. Originally 13th edition of Indian Premier League has been scheduled to start from March 29. Due to the rapid spread of corona virus Indian government imposed a 21 day lock down at first thus BCCI too postpone the tournament to mid of April.

    As the COVID-19 infection shows it’s peak performance the Indian government extend the lock down till May 3. As the participation of foreign players is not possible in this situation, BCCI without any option left took this heart breaking decision.

    The BCCI seeks for it’s all possible way to host the tournament as the failure to host will make a huge loss. Experts states that if IPL 2020 cancelled it would make a dent in Indian economy in the upcoming year.

    Sri Lanka Cricket(SLA) proposal

    Speaking to Lankadeepa Newspaper, SLC President Shammi Silva said that India is likely to look into Sri Lanka’s proposal if the coronavirus situation subsides in the neighbouring country.

    “If IPL is called off, Indian Cricket board and IPL stakeholders will have to bear a loss of more than USD 500 Million. So, it will be beneficial for them to conduct the league in another country as they did in 2009 in South Africa,” said Silva.

    Silva also said that Sri Lanka has all the facilities and is awaiting a response from BCCI. “If we get the go-ahead from them to this proposal, we are ready to provide all the facilities necessary under the supervision of Sri Lankan health authorities,” he added.

    “The health and safety of the nation and everyone involved in our great sport remain our top priority and as such, the BCCI along with the Franchise Owners, Broadcaster, Sponsors and all the Stakeholders acknowledge that the IPL 2020 season will only commence when it is safe and appropriate to do so,” a BCCI release stated.
