BCCI will lose huge amount
The numbers with infection seems bullish in the last couple of weeks thus force the BCCI to postpone all sort of tournaments in and out of home. One of the most awaited tournament of the year also faces the same fate. The cash rich Indian Premier League has been postponed to April 15 due to the threat.
Though BCCI postponed the game the increase in infection may leads to the cancellation of IPL. Previously BCCI hints that IPL may get cancel if it crosses the deadline(April 20). Finally BCCI comes up with a decision to postpone the IPL to July if their previous idea collapsed.
This decision shows the importance of IPL for BCCI in terms of revenue. The Cancellation of 13th edition of IPL would bear BCCI a huge sum of money.
Indian Sports Minister’s update regarding IPL
During this, Sports Minister Kiren Rijiju in a briefing, made it clear that the fate of the Marquee tournament is the decision that will be taken after only 15th April. According to the sports minister- after assessing the situation, the government will come up with a fresh advisory after 15th April
“After April 15 the government will come up with new advisory and guidelines according to the situation. BCCI is a body that looks after cricket which is not an Olympic sport. But here it is not the question of the sporting event alone but a question of the safety of the citizens. In an event there will be thousands of spectators. So it is not just for the sports bodies or sportspersons it is for every citizen of the country,” the sports minister Kiren Rijiju said.
