Nasser Hussain Gives Verdict on Former Indian Skipper MS Dhoni’s Return to Indian Squad

The corona virus has brought all sports activities to a halt and players are practising social distancing and self-isolation during the pandemic. BCCI postponed the scheduled Indian Premier League to the mid of April. BCCI would face a huge lose if the upcoming IPL went down.

Former England skipper Nasser Husain expressed his thoughts on MS Dhoni and why no one should not be “push him into retirement”.

“Once Dhoni is gone, there is no getting him back. There are some legends of the game, appreciating while around, because they are once-in-a-generation cricketer. Don’t push him into retirement too early,” Hussain said live on air.

“Only Dhoni knows his mental state. In the end, the selectors select and players turn up when asked to,” he further added.

The former Indian skipper MS Dhoni was last seen in action against New Zealand in the ICC World Cup semifinal, a game India lost. He made himself unavailable for India’s international assignments post the WC exit and was eventually dropped from the BCCI’s list of centrally contracted players in January.

52-year-old Nasser then went on to question: “Is MS Dhoni still good enough to get in the Indian side? It is as simple as that. That should apply for anyone across the board. What I have seen of Dhoni, I still think he has a huge amount to offer for Indian cricket.”

“Yes, its been one or two occasions where he (MSD) got it wrong in run-chases. There was a World Cup game in England where he sort of blocked at the end for some unknown reason, but in general MS Dhoni is still a really good talent and be careful what you wish for,” he elaborated.

Earlier BCCI president Sourav Ganguly and India head coach Ravi Shastri points out that, “Dhoni’s international future depends on his performances in IPL 2020 which comes in to consider him in T20 World Cup planned later this year in Australia”.
