Latest News about IPL 2020: Rajasthan Royals’ Jos Buttler hopes IPL 2020 happens later in the year

The 29-year-old England wicketkeeper-batsman Jos Buttler played a key role in England’s thrilling defeat of New Zealand at Lord’s in July. Buttler broke the stumps to run out Martin Guptill and seal a super-over win over New Zealand as England won the men’s World Cup for the first time.

The novel COVID-19 pandemic providing no respite has given rise to questions regarding the future of the 13th season of the Indian Premier League. Originally scheduled to commence on March 29, IPL 2020 was delayed in the wake of coronavirus scare.

On being recently asked about the revised starting date of the cash-rich league, BCCI President Sourav Ganguly had pointed out “no change in the situation” as a reason behind him not being able to provide a concrete answer.

Much like Ganguly, Rajasthan Royals wicket-keeper batsman Jos Buttler was also unsure of when IPL 2020 would begin for it commencing on April 15 seems nearly improbable.

“I don’t know anymore than you know about when it [IPL 2020] could be played. I think, at the moment, everything is so indefinite, isn’t it? No one quite knows how long this will last. Can’t say, at the moment, about when it could or could not happen,” Buttler was quoted as saying in a video posted by ESPNcricinfo.

As expected, the confusing situation has invited multiple reports which range from IPL 2020 expected to get canceled to it happening in September-October or October-November. With the October-November window currently with the ICC T20 World Cup, a report further indicates its postponement as well.

Labeling IPL 2020 as a “massive tournament” for cricket, Buttler voiced his opinion regarding the premier tournament finding a window later in the year even if it comes at a cost of not all overseas players being available.

“As per the stature of the tournament, it’s a massive massive tournament for everyone around the world. The revenue that’s involved in the IPL; it’s a very important competition to cricket. It’s a big shame that it’s not going ahead.

“I think it does have the weight to probably pushed into a schedule if it can allow it. Of course, that might mean that certain players are unavailable. They’ll have to work through as the situation unfolds,” Buttler said.
