The Veteran Indian wicket Keeper Wriddhiman Saha has reacted to Shreyas Iyer and Ishan Kishan’s termination of central contracts.
Saha Reacts to Iyer-Ishan’s BCCI Snub
Wriddhiman Saha feels that a player cannot be forced if they do not prefer to play in the domestic circuit. This comes after Shreyas Iyer and Ishan Kishan’s BCCI snub on the central contract.
It was reported that the duo was not considered for the BCCI Central Contracts for the season. Kishan was part of the squad which played in India’s tour of South Africa in 2024.
On the other hand, Shreyas played in the first two tests of the ongoing test series on England’s tour of India in 2024.
Saha has opened up on the exclusions saying, “That is BCCI’s decision and the personal decision of concerned players. Forcefully, you can’t do anything. Whenever I am fit I play, even play club matches, and office matches as well.”
“I always treat a match as a match. All matches are equal for me. If every player thinks along those lines, they will only prosper in their career and it will be better for Indian cricket as well.”
Saha continued to talk about the importance of playing domestic cricket. “I feel the importance of domestic cricket is always there because if I talk about Sarfaraz Khan, he had scored plenty of runs in the last 4-5 years. He has delivered.”
While BCCI did not expand on its statement, Shreyas and Ishan Kishan have been snubbed due to missing Ranji Trophy games in the ongoing season.
He also praised series debutant Dhruv Jurel for his impressive performance in the fourth test against England. He smashed 90 runs in the first innings of the fourth test to clinch a five-wicket win.
“I have never seen him (Jurel) in domestic cricket, even in Test matches I have seen in his highlights. But his batting is outstanding, he won the last Test for the team,” said Saha.
“It is always good to see that your reserve bench is ready, whenever somebody is getting a chance. Over that, some players are getting opportunity but don’t want to play, which they shouldn’t.”
“Whenever you get a chance to play, you should play whether it is red ball or white ball,” he added.
England and India will be playing their fifth test match starting on March 07 at HPCA Stadium, Dharamsala.
