UP Warriorz have named Australian wicket-keeper batter Alyssa Healy as their captain for the WPL 2023 season. The WPL is set to be played in Mumbai from March 4 to 26. A total of 22 matches will be played at the Brabourne Stadium and DY Patil Stadium.
Alyssa Healy Named As UP Warriorz Captain
UP Warriorz spent INR 70 Lakhs in WPL 2023 Auction to bag the service of Alyssa Healy who is the only wicketkeeper batter of the team.
Alyssa Healy who is currently part of the Women’s Australian team at the 2023 T20 World Cup, has featured in 139 T20Is for Australia, scoring close to 2,446 runs that include a century and 14 fifties.
“I am delighted to have the chance to captain the UP Warriorz in the inaugural edition of the historic WPL that will be played in Mumbai. The WPL is a tournament we have all been keenly waiting on, and the UP Warriorz have a fantastic squad, waiting to making a splash once things get going,” 32-year-old Healy said.
She further added, “We have a good mix of experience and youth along with ability and look forward to putting on a show for our fans. We are here to win and be ruthless in our brand of cricket.”
Alyssa Healy has played 94 ODIs and scored 2639 runs at an average of 36.65 while played 123 T20Is and scored 2136 runs at an average of 24 which includes 1 century and 12 half-centuries.
Her sole century in T20I came against Sri Lanka in 2019 where she remained unbeaten after scoring 148 runs.
