The Indian cricket team have not yet named any replacement player for Bumrah. But a report states that Shami who missed the home T20I series against Australia and South Africa due to COVID-19 is the first choice for Bumrah’s replacement.
Bumrah played only 5 T20Is so far in 2022 and bagged 4 wickets at an economy of 7.87.
Possible Replacement: Mohammed Shami, Mohammed Shiraj, Deepak Chahar
Shimron Hetmyer
- Team– West Indies
- Reason – Personal Reasons
- Replacement Player – Shamarh Brooks
West Indies batter Shimron Hetmyer has dropped from T20 World Cup 2022 after he missed the rescheduled flight to Australia.
Hetmyer was supposed to travel on Saturday (October 1) but his flight got rescheduled to Monday after his request. However, the Guyana cricketer soon informed Cricket West Indies (CWI) that he won’t be able to make it in time to take the flight because of family reasons.
Post the incident Shimron Hetmyer starts to receive criticism meanwhile his girlfriend stood up for him.
Hetmyer’s girlfriend posted a story on her Instagram handle – “There’s always another side to every story told #whatsinthedarkmustcometolight @shetmyer always gonna support you love no matter what”.
Shimron Hetmyer shared the story of his girlfriend on Instagram and wrote “Always is love”.
Dwaine Pretorius
- Team – South Africa
- Reason – Thumb Injury
- Replacement Player – Marco Jansen
South Africa all-rounder Dwaine Pretorius has been ruled out of the T20 World Cup 2022 owing to a fractured left thumb. Pretorius suffered the injury during the third T20I against India in Indore and is set to undergo a surgery.
“The nature of the injury requires surgical intervention and Dwaine will consult the Cricket South Africa designated hand surgeon on arrival in South Africa,” CSA chief medical officer Dr Shuaib Manjra said.
“Normal rehabilitation procedures will follow to ensure he speedily returns to playing cricket.”
Pretorius made his South Africa debut in 2016 and played 27 ODIs and 30 T20Is for his country so far and took 35 wickets each in those two formats. He has also scored 192 and 261 runs in ODIs and T20Is respectively.
Possible Replacement: Marco Jansen
Reece Topley
- Team– England
- Reason – Ankle Injury
- Replacement Player – Tymal Mills
England pace bowler Reece Topley has been ruled out of the 2022 T20 World Cup in Australia owing to ligament damage to his left ankle. ECB have named Tymal Mills – one of the travelling reserves, as his replacement in the squad.
Mills, Topley’s replacement, has picked up 198 wickets in his T20 career. He also had an impressive run in the T20 World Cup in the UAE last year, bagging seven wickets at an average of just over 15.
Craig Young
- Team– Ireland
- Reason – Chronic issue
- Replacement Player – Graham Hume
Ireland Pacer Craig Young has been ruled out of the upcoming ICC T20 World Cup 2022 after the 32-year-old had a recurrence of a chronic issue at the preparatory camp in Sydney.
Cricket Ireland has named fast bowler Graham Hume as the replacement player for Craig Young. Graham Hume who played one ODI and T20I match still waits to bag his first international wicket. But he played 98 first-class games and bagged 311 wickets at an average of 17.91.
Dushmantha Chameera
- Team– Sri Lanka
- Reason – Calf injury
- Replacement Player – Kasun Rajitha
Sri Lankan fast bowler Dushmantha Chameera has been ruled out of the ongoing ICC T20 World Cup 2022 owing to a calf injury. Kasun Rajitha has been named as the replacement player for the injured Dushmantha Chameera.
Key Players to Miss 2022 T20 World Cup
India
Ravindra Jadeja
Ravindra Jadeja – one of the key Indian all-rounders who has the capabilities of turning the match in the favour of his team has missed the T20 World Cup 2022 owing to a knee injury. Missing the service of Jadeja will set to be a huge blow for the Indian line-up.
Initially, Jadeja has been ruled out of the Asia Cup 2022 and Axar Patel has been named as his replacement.
Though the Indian cricket team has the ability to fix the patch hole, it’s difficult to find an exact replacement player for Jadeja, particularly in terms of fielding.
Notably, Jadeja was named in India’s squad for the 2021 ICC Men’s T20 World Cup where he bagged 7 wickets at an economy rate of 5.94.
Sanju Samson
Sanju Samson is another notable Indian player to miss out ICC T20 World Cup 2022 tournament. Sanju Samson was not even included in India’s home series against Australia and South Africa.
Sanju Samson made his T20I debut against Zimbabwe at Harare Sports Club, Jul 19, 2015. So far Sanju Samson has played 16 T20Is and scored 296 runs at an average of 21.14 which includes a half-century.
Samson in IPL 2022 smashed 458 runs at an average of 28.63 including two fifties. In IPL 2021, Samson averaged even better. His 484 runs came at an average of 40.33.
Mohammed Siraj
Though Mohammed Siraj missed his spot in India’s squad for the T20 World Cup 2022, he gained a chance to be in India’s greatest event right after Bumrah ruled out of the tournament owing to an injury.
Siraj last played a T20I for India back in February against Sri Lanka in Dharamsala. Since then, he was sidelined in the shortest format. In IPL 2022, Siraj has picked just 9 wickets in the 15 matches he played.
Former Australian cricketer Shane Watson says that he would pick Siraj as a replacement player for Bumrah.
“The player I would put in if Jasprit’s not available is Mohammad Siraj, because of the firepower he presents. Without Bumrah, that’s the one thing India won’t necessarily have, which is vital on Australian wickets on the bigger grounds with the pace and bounce,” Watson said on the ICC review.
“Siraj is great with the brand new ball. He is fast, he swings the ball away but also his defensive skills are pretty good. And he’s got better over the last couple of years, with what we’ve seen in the IPL. So, for me he’s probably going to be the one who is going to have the most impact”, he added.
Siraj has played 6 T20Is so far and bagged 5 wickets at an economy of 10.54. Siraj’s performance in IPL 2022 might hold him back in the race for Bumrah’s replacement in the ICC T20 World Cup 2022 squad.
Deepak Chahar
Deepak Chahar has the ability to swing the ball naturally and can bowl at a good pace. Though many experts want him to be part of playing 11 he finds a place on the standby list. Bumrah’s absence may create a chance for him to be in the playing 11 but with Shami and Shiraj on the list, it becomes quite difficult for him.
Notably, Deepak Chahar has been ruled out of the TATA Indian Premier League (IPL) 2022 owing to a back injury. Deepak Chahar has played 24 T20Is so far and bagged 29 wickets at an economy of 8.17.
Ravi Bishnoi
Ravi Bishnoi – The Right-arm leg-breaker who made his T20I debut against West Indies at Eden Gardens, on February 16, 2022 is another notable name to miss in the T20 World Cup 2022 squad.
In the past few matches, Bishnoi bowled at an economy of under seven and has scalped nine wickets in the last four games. Bishnoi has played 10 T20I matches and bagged 16 wickets at an economy of 7.09.
After over a week of the squad announcement, Bishnoi took to social media to express his disappointment at being ignored for the upcoming T20 World Cup 2022
Pakistan
Fakhar Zaman
Star Pakistan National Cricket Team batter Fakhar Zaman missed the T20 World Cup 2022 campaign after suffering from a knee injury.
Fakhar was named as one of the travelling reserves, though, along with Mohammad Haris and Shahnawaz Dahani. Fakhar also absent from the 18-member squad in the recently concluded seven-match T20I series against England.
Pakistan Cricket Board Chief, Muhammad Wasim, identified that as a potential reason for Zaman’s absence in the squad for the T20Is against England and subsequently the T20 World Cup.
“Fakhar Zaman has also been rested from the England T20Is so that he can recover from the knee injury he sustained when he landed awkwardly while fielding in the final,” Wasim said.
During a discussion on the YouTube channel “Caught Behind”, former Pakistan National Cricket Team skipper Latif revealed that Fakhar has suffered a knee injury and he could be out of action for 4-6 weeks. He stated:

Zaman had only managed 96 runs in six innings at the Asia Cup. This included a half-century against Hong Kong during a group match. In the final against Sri Lanka, the left-hander, now used in the middle-order role, was dismissed for a first-ball duck.
Zaman has played 71 T20Is for Pakistan, making 1349 runs at an average of 21.75 and a strike rate of 129.09 with eight fifties.
An unbeaten 55 against Australia in the semi-final loss to Australia at the last ICC Men’s T20 World Cup in UAE is among his last three fifty-plus scores in the format. In 2022, however, Zaman averages 13.71 in seven matches.
Zaman’s lack of form and subsequent injury paved way for Masood’s inclusion. The left-hander made 547 runs at an average of 45.58 and a strike-rate of nearly 140 in England in the T20 Blast recently.
Hasan Ali
Paksitan’s senior fast bowler Hasan Ali has been dropped from the squad owing to his poor performance in recent times. Hasan Ali had played just one match for Pakistan in the recently concluded Asia Cup in UAE.
Hasan Ali played his first and only match of Asia Cup 2022 against Sri Lanak in the Super Four round and went wicketless. Notably, Pakistan lost the match by 5 wickets to Sri Lanka.
South Africa
Rassie van der Dussen
Rassie van der Dussen missed the ICC T20 World Cup 2022 after suffering an injury. Van der Dussen broke his left index finger while fielding during the second Test against England at Old Trafford but batted in South Africa’s second innings, routinely taking his top hand off the bat after playing a shot.
He returned home after that match to see a finger specialist and is expected to be out for “up to six weeks”.
Van der Dussen’s absence has created an opening for Kolpak-returnee Rilee Rossouw in the squad. Reeza Hendricks, who has come off a run of four consecutive T20I fifties and a 42, is also in the squad, which means South Africa are spoilt for choice in the top order, which also includes Quinton de Kock and Aiden Markram.
Rassie van der Dussen have played 41 T20I and scored 1044 runs at a strike rate of 128.73 which included 7 half-centuries.
England
Jonny Bairstow
England’s wicketkeeper-batter Jonny Bairstow has been ruled out of ICC T20 World Cup 2022 after he suffered a bizarre leg injury while playing golf. As a result, Bairstow was taken out of England’s T20 World Cup team as a result.
After undergoing successful surgery for a fractured leg and dislocated ankle, Bairstow announced he will not be able to play this season.
The 33-year-old wrote, “Hello everyone. I am just writing this to give you all an update on my injury and progress.
The actual injury was as such… a broken fibula in 3 places which required a plate, I dislocated my ankle which in turn meant i did my syndesmosis joint and lateral ligament along with a couple more bits. All in all I have done a proper job on it!

Jofra Archer
The talismanic England fast bowler Jofra Archer will miss his second T20 World Cup in a row, as he have not yet fully recovered from his elbow and back injuries.
Eventually, he missed IPL 2021 because of an apparent elbow injury as England Cricket Board (ECB) wanted to protect him for the T20 World Cup 2021 which had to take place in UAE last year but failed to rever in time and missed the entire tournament.
Archer was ruled out of the entire season scheduled to play in the summer due to a back stress fracture and it was confirmed that he won’t be part of the ICC event. He also had to miss the 2022 edition of the Indian Premier League.
But ECB has never confirmed that Jofra wouldn’t be able to take part in the T20 World Cup 2022. Owing to his injury concern, ECB have dropped his name from England’s T20 World Cup 2022 squad.
Jason Roy
England’s hard-hitting opening batsman Jason Roy has been dropped from England’s T20 World Cup 2022 squad owing to his poor performance in recent times.
ECB states: Roy was unimpressive in the T20 World Cup last year, scoring just one fifty in five matches. His poor run of form continued even after the tournament.
Since November 2021, Jason Roy managed to score just 206 runs at an average of 18.72.
English management, Rob Key believes the 32-year-old has plenty of cricket left in him and can make a comeback if he can get back on track.
“He just has to go find form, to be honest. It’s not a good time to lose form in this format. The game’s about confidence as much as anything else. If he finds that again, he is one of the best openers around in this format. When he is playing well, he is at the top of this game. So I don’t see his T20 career over.
“It’s just a case of finding form and I’m sure there are plenty of opportunities, with the abundance of T20 cricket that there is around the world to find that form again. I certainly don’t see at the age that he is, that this is the end of Jason Roy.”
Bangladesh
Mahmudullah Riyad
Mahmudullah Riyad who led Bangladesh in the T20 World Cup 2021 that was held in the UAE last year has been axed from Bangladesh’s squad for the T20 World Cup 2022 owing to his recent struggles in the shortest format of the game, particularly because of his poor strike rate.
Mahmudullah Riyad has played 121 T20I matches so far and scored 2121 runs and bagged 38 wickets.
West Indies
Andre Russell
Owing to his poor performances in recent times all-rounder Andre Russell has been not included in the West Indies squad for the T20 World Cup 2022.
Cricket West Indies chief selector Desmond Haynes explained the reason for Andre Russell’s absence from the WI squad for the upcoming T20 World Cup 2022.
“We had a meeting with Andre Russell earlier in the year,” Haynes said. “We’re still not convinced yet, he’s not performing as well as we would like to see him in the competition. I think in the situation with Andre Russell, we’ve just decided to move on, and look for someone who’s in form, and doing well in the T20 format.”
