BCCI has named Mohammed Shami as the replacement player for the injured Jasprit Bumrah in India’s T20 World Cup 2022 squad.
The fast bowler has reached Australia and will join the rest of the squad before India’s warm-up matches against Australia and New Zealand. Meanwhile, Mohammed Siraj and Shardul Thakur have been named as backups and will soon travel to Australia.
Bumrah’s Replacement in T20 World Cup 2022
The announcement of Bumrah’s injury replacement was delayed because Shami had to prove his fitness at the National Cricket Academy in Bengaluru after he had been pushed away from cricket due to a bout with Covid-19.
The All-India Senior Selection Committee has named Mohammed Shami as Jasprit Bumrah’s replacement in India’s ICC Men’s T20 World Cup squad. Shami has reached Australia and will link up with the squad in Brisbane ahead of the warm-up matches.
Shami was one of India’s top bowlers when an ICC event was held in Australia the last time around in 2015. Mohammed Siraj and Shardul Thakur have been named as backups and will travel to Australia shortly.
Shami last played for India in the shortest format against Namibia in the T20 World Cup last year. He recently recovered from Covid-19 which forced him to miss the home series against Australia and South Africa.
Mohammed Shami have played 17 T20I matches and bagged 18 wickets at an economy rate of 9.55. But Shami in IPL 2022 played 16 matches and bagged 20 wickets at an economy rate of 8.00 with a best of 3 wickets for 25 runs.
