T20 World Cup 2021 updates: The T20 WC was supposed to be held in India but has been shifted to the UAE amid the coronavirus pandemic.
The first round of the T20 WC will be split across two groups and played in the UAE and Oman.
T20 World Cup 2021 moves to UAE
BCCI has confirmed that the ICC T20 World Cup will takes place in UAE post the IPL 2021, a report confirms.

Round 1, which will include 12 matches, will comprise eight teams from which four (top two from each group) would qualify for the Super 12s.
Four teams from this lot of eight – Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, Ireland, Netherlands, Scotland, Namibia, Oman, Papua New Guinea – will then progress to the Super 12s, joining the top eight ranked T20I teams.
“The Super 12s phase, comprising 30 matches, is scheduled to start from October 24. The Super 12s, where teams will be split across two groups of six each, will be played at three venues in the UAE – Dubai, Abu Dhabi and Sharjah. This will be followed by three playoff games – the two semi-finals and the final.”

UAE Hosts Remaining IPL 2021 Matches
The BCCI, in its statement, had mentioned that the reason to move the cash-rich IPL out of the country is because of the monsoon scare.
“The remaining matches of VIVO Indian Premier League 2021 season in the United Arab Emirates (U.A.E) considering the monsoon season in India in the months of September-October this year,” BCCI had said.
ICC was looking at a venue besides the UAE
The UAE is on standby to host the T20 World Cup. UAE will also be hosting the remainder of the IPL 2021 season in September-October.
To ease the workload on the UAE, the ICC is also looking at Oman to host a few matches. As per reports, the ICC had approached Oman for the same, and talks were progressing with BCCI as well.
While the UAE were always the first backup option, Oman’s capital Muscat has been added as the fourth venue, apart from Abu Dhabi, Dubai, and Sharjah, for the tournament.
“Yes, the BCCI, during the ICC board meeting, has formally asked for a four-week window to take a final call but, internally, they have said that they would like to keep the hosting rights and wouldn’t mind the tournament being held in UAE and Oman,” a senior board official, privy to ICC board developments, told PTI on the condition of anonymity.
