Captains View
Aaron Finch | Australia
We’ll have a bowl. Looks like a really nice wicket, it’s not going to change a huge amount. Not quite hot as it usually is in Dubai. Try and defend well really early and chasing it down later on.
(Against South Africa) We did some damage in the powerplay, everyone chipped in and it was a really good bowling performance. In this tournament, you have to get points somehow, doesn’t matter if it’s ugly.
It was nice to get the first two points against a really good South African side. Everyone’s fit, same team.
Dasun Shanaka | Sri Lanka
We would have bowled first as well. It’s a very good contest, we have to accept it and perform to our standards. Boys are prepared for that. Maheesh Theekshana is fit and comes in for Binura Fernando.
It (mystery spin) is always special in T20 cricket, so he’ll go well. It’s international cricket, very happy to lead this side.

T20 World Cup 2021 Australia vs Sri Lanka Highlights
Sri Lanka Batting
Nissanka and Kusal Perera get into the crease to lead Sri Lanka while Starc opens the bowling attack.
Sri Lankan openers make a steady start as they were all aware of scoring a massive target is very much important while playing against a team like Australia. But Cummins in the 3rd over dismissed Pathum Nissanka for 7 runs and makes the first blow for Sri Lanka.
Asalanka on joining hands with Kusal Perera starts to add runs to the Sri Lanka scoreboard. The duo added 63 runs partnership with a descent run-rate per over. Australian bowlers struggle to control the Sri Lankan batsmen, where Adam Zampa comes as the saviour and dismissed Asalanka for 35 runs.
In the following over, Starc dismissed Kusal Perera and blows the Sri Lankan batting order. Sri Lankan batsmen lose 3 wickets in the next three overs and make a massive collapse in the batting unit.
B Rajapaksa with his 33 runs off 26 balls leads Sri Lanka to score 154 runs for 6 wickets lose at the end of the 20 overs.
Australia Batting
David Warner and Aaron Finch get into the crease to lead Australia to chase down the target of 155 while Karunaratne opens the bowling attack.
Sri Lanka needs to pick early wickets and should restrict the opening duo from making a strong partnership. But Finch shows his aggressive batting side by hitting a couple of boundaries of the very first over without any fear.
But Warner makes it slow and seems to make it long in the crease. It is good to see how Australia backs batsmen like David Warner through his tough times who struggles to find his aggressive form since the IPL 2021.
As expected the Australian opening batsmen starts to hit the Sri Lankan bowlers where the duo makes 20 runs off Lahiru Kumara over where Australia scored 63 runs at the end of the powerplay.
Finally in the followed over Hasaranga dismissed Finch and breaks the partnership where Australia scored 70 runs at the end of the 7 overs. With 10 runs per over Australia stands strong where Maxwell joins hands with Warner.
But Hasaranga soon dismissed Maxwell for 5 runs and tries to load pressure over the Australian batting unit. But still, Warner is on the field and joins hands with Stev Smith.
At the end of the 10 overs, Australia scored 95 runs for 2 wickets loss. In the mid of the 12th over Warner hits his much-needed half-century after back to back bad innings.
Dasun Shanaka puts an end to Warner’s innings by dismissing him for 65 runs at the end of the 15th over. But the destruction has already been made by the Australian batsmen. Steve Smith on joining hands with Stoinis leads Australia to register their second victory by beating Sri Lanka by 7 wickets.

Player of the Match
Adam Zampa | Australia
Sri Lanka got off to bit of a flier, so we needed to peg it back. To be honest, it (the surface) was quite slow in the first innings, it spun a little bit more than it did in the second innings. I think the moisture and dew took effect in the second innings. I find them (Sri Lanka) really challenging.
They are very good players of spin, I bowled well tonight and am glad I did. I have tended to bowler little bit in the powerplay, little bit towards the back end in recent times but we the team that we have got, the big three will bowl in the powerplay and Maxwell bowling a couple of overs, my job is to get wickets in the middle and make it easy for the guys at the back end.
David (Warner) played really well. It is good that those guys got to spend some time in the middle.
